Policy Statement
Honorable chair and the distinguished delegates,
Over the course of the years, the developments of nuclear materials have
always been a threat to world peace. China, France, Russia, United Kingdom and the
United States are approved as the nuclear-weapon states (NWS) and are recognized
as nations legitimately possessing the nuclear weaponry by the NPT (NonProliferation Treaty). For nations such as India, Israel and Pakistan never joined the
NPT and are known as nations that possess nuclear weapons. The fact drew
suspicions upon the nations as claimed for their nuclear materials are for peaceful
purposes (Arms Control Association). As the technology and science are
developing, black markets for nuclear weaponry is growing rapidly. There has been
no establishment of an international law on a global level to punish the illegal act of
trafficking of nuclear materials.
From the perspective of the Union of Myanmar, nations should be allowed to
build and develop the technology and science in building nuclear materials. The
protection of nations using the technology to build nuclear materials is secure as for
nations use the safety guidelines of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy
Agency). Under the guidelines of the IAEA, nations are fully secured to have no
threats on the lives of the people. Governments of nations should be utterly
responsible for any use of nuclear materials by passing laws to castigate the
trafficking of nuclear weapons without permission from government. By acting on
this solution, it avoids security level of the nation being dropped.
The working with nuclear materials is for the protection of each nation.
Nations should build enough nuclear weapons to use as a war deterrent to make
sure there are no sudden tackles from other nations. By building nuclear weapons,
the nation earns military respect from other nations when giving a speech at the
conference and vice versa. Building nuclear materials such as nuclear power plants
helps advancing the technology and science of the use of nuclear as for weapons
are disarmed. It is the nations responsibility to make sure the usage of nuclear
materials wouldnt harm the citizens of the nation under any circumstance. Hence,
nations can also be enriched by using the technology to create nuclear power plants
and use it as a source of energy and at the same time gaining profits.
