This course is designed to introduce students to the key concepts in MIS (Management
Information Systems) and to enhance understanding of the issues that business
organizations face when developing and managing information systems. The course will
examine the fundamental principles associated with IT development and management and
the increasing impact of information technology in business organizations. The field is in a
state of flux, so the course will also examine emerging technologies and IT trends. By
completing the course, students should be better equipped to make IT-related decisions, to
participate in IT projects, and to communicate more knowledgeably with IT experts.

Upon completion of this course students are expected to successfully meet the
following management information systems course learning outcomes:
1. Understand core technologies that affect the operation and management of
businesses
2. Provide examples of recent technological development and emerging
trends along with their business applications
3. Describe the differences between information systems and information
technology
4. Create a simple database and web site

INSTRUCTIONAL
METHODS:

This course will be delivered through the use of lectures, presentations,


demonstrations, discussions, and limited hands-on experience.

Practice: You will practice using the software by completing Projects in


each chapter.
Demonstration of mastery: You will demonstrate your mastery of the
software by completing tests that measure your skill in using the software.
GRADING:

Student performance will be evaluated based upon the following criteria:


Evaluation of the course will include any class assignments or deliverable
exercises, and the projects. The instructor will supply the students with a full
grading scheme at the beginning of the course.

final class will earn 0%.
Any exceptional, non-academic circumstances need to be discussed with the
instructor as soon as they arise, prior to the due date of the deliverable. At the
time of the discussion, NO make-up work will be assigned.
The instructor reserves the right not to award credit for deliverables that are

incomplete. Partial credit is awarded at the instructors discretion, and only for
work that merits such an award. Assignments that are incomplete or
incongruous with the specifications may be returned to the student.

ATTENDANCE:

Students are required to be prepared and attend all classes. The attendance policy
is strictly enforced, and poor attendance may adversely affect your final grade due
to class assignments.

Group Case Presentation:
Each group will prepare for their audience informative and useful handouts about that reveal the structure of
their presentation and the critical features of the case.
Each group should prepare a power-point presentation(15 minute) appropriate to the case presentation
(including, but not limited to, posters, web-based presentations, charts, and so onbe creative).
Each group should include in their presentation an opportunity for the audience to get involved in the
discussion, ask questions, and/or complete some relevant, productive tasks.
