Constitution
2008-2009
Article 1.
Name of Organization
The name of this organization is McKids of Duke University and referred to as McKids
for abbreviation within the Duke Community.
Article 2.
Purpose and Objectives
The purpose of McKids is to support the Ronald McDonald House Organization with an
emphasis on the Ronald McDonald House of Durham. McKids will achieve this purpose
primarily by two means:
-Setting up volunteer opportunities for students as well as recruiting students from Duke
University to volunteer on a twice weekly basis. These volunteer events include bingo
night, arts and crafts night, cooking dinner for the house, etc.
-Fundraising for the Ronald McDonald House of Durham so that they are able to both
continue to support themselves and also so they can achieve their mission of building a
second larger house. A larger house is necessary to accommodate a greater number of
patients and their families.
Article 3.
Membership and Structure
Membership in this organization is open to anyone who wishes to contribute and become
an official member of the organization. However, it is primarily geared towards the Duke
undergraduate student body. To maintain membership, one must participate in one event a
semester.
The Executive Board consists of the following positions: President, Vice President,
Treasurer, Secretary, Fundraising Chair, Marketing Chair, Volunteer Chair, Community
Relations Chair, Fundraising Assistant, Marketing Assistant, and Volunteer Assistant. The
new board excluding the three assistants will be selected by the graduating outgoing
officers or officers not re-running for new positions in the end of the spring semester. The
process will consist of an application and interview. The three assistants will be selected
in the beginning of the fall semester by the new board using written applications. All
officers will serve for one full school year.
Article 4.
Duties of Members
1. The duties of the president are:
To call and preside over general body meetings.

To call and preside over executive meetings


To coordinate and work with the directors at the Ronald McDonald House of
Durham.
To serve on the Community Advocacy Board and the Development Committee of
the Ronald McDonald House

2. The duties of the Vice-President are:

To call and preside over general body meetings in the absence of the president.
To call and preside over executive meetings in the absence of the president.
To assist any of the three chairs with larger projects when help is needed.
To serve on the Community Advocacy Board and the Development Committee of
the Ronald McDonald House when the president is unable.

3. The duties of the Secretary are:


To take minutes at executive board meetings and send them to the general body
and post them on Duke Groups archives.
Send e-mails to the general body to inform them of any new projects/ progress.
Take attendance at executive committee meetings.
4. The duties of the Fundraising Chair/ Fundraising Chair Assistant are:
To coordinate and attend meetings with the directors of the Ronald McDonald
House regarding the spring food points fundraiser.
To head the fundraising committee.
To plan any other fundraising activities.
To solicit Community or Corporate donations.
5. The duties of the Marketing Chair/ Marketing Chair Assistant are:
To organize marketing efforts for the McKids group.
To organize marketing efforts for the spring food points campaign.
To maintain the McKids website/Facebook groups for donating food points.
6. The duties of the Volunteer Chair/ Volunteer Chair Assistant are:
To set up volunteer slots for weekly activities at the Ronald McDonald House of
Durham.
To send reminder emails to participants.
To arrange other service events for general body members.
7. The duties of the Community Relations Chair are:
Work with outside vendors and companies to acquire matching or donations
and/or solicit House support.
o Whole Foods (community spotlight and matching)
o Winterfest
o RMHC of NC matching

o Apple
8. The duties of the Treasurer are:
Undergo financial training and be knowledgeable about SOFC, DSG, and mini
grant monies.
Obtain/monitor fund code reports as necessary.
Pay/reimburse for McKids purchases and contracts with other persons/groups.
Article 6.
Meetings
1. General Body Meetings will be held at the discretion of the executive board once a
month.
2. Executive Board Meeting dates will be decided upon by the executive board. A regular
time should be established bi-monthly for Fall Semester and weekly for Spring Semester.
Article 7.
Amendments/ Ratification
1. Any member of the executive board may propose an amendment to the constitution,
which shall be presented at the next scheduled executive board meeting. Amendments
will be approved with 2/3 of the majority vote.
2. Ratification requires approval by all members of the current executive board.
