INTRODUCTION

One of the social phenomena that has had more impact in Cartagena has been the
"mototaxismo". Many mayors and politicians have tried to solve this problem, but
none of them has found a strategy that works. That is the reason that this report
seeks to analyze the "mototaxismo" and suggest solutions that can work within our
community.

GENERAL GOAL
Analyze the problem of mototaxismo in Cartagena and propose possible solutions.
Specific goals:

Define and explain the concept of mototaxismo.

Identify the problems generated by the mototaxismo in Cartagena.
Suggest alternatives that create jobs for mototaxistas in Cartagena.

THE MOTOTAXISMO
What is the mototaxismo?
The mototaxismo is a system of informal transport that emerged in Colombia in the
first decade of the twenty first century.
What is an informal transport?
The informal transport is that which is not regulated in the traffic code of the city
and as such constitutes an illegal form of public service.
What is a mototaxista?
It is a driver in exchange for a sum of money offered to transport you on your
motorcycle, as would a taxi driver.
PROBLEMS
1. Vehicular Congestion

They do not respect the stops, and semaphores.

They always are crossing on the road.
Overtaking on rails is forbidden. But they dont care about that.
They do not respect the pedestrian zebra.

2. Insecurity
Mototaxistas dont have the necessary safety equipment such as: good state's
helmets, vests with reflectors, car accident insurance, and in many cases they
have no driver's license.
3. Environmental problem
From 2000 to the present there has been a proliferation of motorcycles. When
these motorcycles are circulating, the production of carbon monoxide increases,
and this gas affects the ozone layer.
4. The mototaxismo is often linked to the crime rate, especially theft and
homicides because the ideal means of transport of these is the motorcycle.
SOLUTION
Establish a model that generates employment for mototaxistas. Before the state
will see the need to ban this form of transport.
An easy model is that the state build public works and hire these men as workmen.

CONCLUSIONS

To solve the problem of mototaxismo, we must first solve the problem of

unemployment, because if this informal transport is eliminated without having
generated jobs for mototaxistas we would not be contributing to the social
development of the city.
