At 25 years old, SKF Bengaluru is one of
the younger factories among the over 100
manufacturing facilities that SKF has around the
world. Established in 1989, the SKF Bengaluru
factory has successfully met the needs of
customers in India and abroad for quality
bearings that meet world-class standards.
Located in the southern part of India, Bengaluru
is in close proximity to Chennai also called
the Detroit of India, as it is a major automotive
manufacturing hub in India. Several major
automotive and two-wheeler manufacturers
have their manufacturing facilities in and around
the Bengaluru-Chennai industrial area. Its
strategic location makes SKF Bengaluru the
natural preference for customers looking for
high quality products.
The SKF Global Technical Centre, India (GTCI)
established in 2011 is situated in the same

region and has further strengthened the


technical capabilities of the Bengaluru factory.
The objective of setting up GTCI is to make SKF
Groups technology more easily available to local
and global customers and provide assistance
in a faster and more effective way. The center
provides advanced technical knowledge
required for design, process and supplier quality
validation. It also provides services like testing,
validation and new product development to
customers.
Every customer solution is arrived at through
a potent mix of technology, knowledge and
experience. The highly-trained and qualityconscious personnel have the confidence
of a century of experience and knowledge.
Coupled with the current expertise of GTCI,
the Bengaluru factory offers a wide range of

Word class manufacturing channels

SKF Bengaluru is using SKF approved sources


for raw material.
In the measurement section, calibrated
masters are created and replicated onto the
various channels. The factory has a standards
room that works to global quality standards to
confirm that SKFs exacting quality parameters
are always maintained.
The automated production channels and the
inspection system enable zero defects output.
100% controls of boundary dimensions and
torque are applied.
Every bearing is checked for conformance with
desired noise and radial internal clearance.
Bearing cleanliness is maintained by multiple
washing steps.
A final component check is performed before
the bearings are marked with the standard SKF
stamp of quality.
The bearings are washed again and anti-
corrosion preservation oil is added. For certain
application requirements, the bearings are
greased and capped.

Customer order handling/Dispatch order handling

After an overall final check, the bearings


are packed. The fully-automated packing
facility is equipped to handle series packing for
customers of original equipment manufacturers,
single cartons for aftermarket, seaworthy
packing and air shipments. Later, an automated
calibrated machine performs precision checking.
Quality audits are carried out at every shift to
optimize quality parameters at every level.
Two-wheeler Centre of Excellence
At SKF Bengaluru, every opportunity is utilized
to innovate and improve solutions. The Centre of
Excellence acts like a research and development
centre where special requests are met. It is here
that SKF also develops innovative solutions for the
two-wheeler industry.
To arrive at innovative solutions for customers,
trained personnel in this department disassemble
a motorcycle and explore every possible solution.

By spending time and effort at this stage, the team arrives at better solutions
for customer requirements and the designs for new products. This is also where
prototypes are designed, followed by intensive testing and benchmarking.
Ring pairing and ball filling machine
The channels at SKF Bengaluru follow processes that ensure the quality of the
products is as good as any in the world. The channels are SKF Explorer grade
approved, resulting in customer bearings that have tolerance levels higher than
normal bearings.
Single packing
The packing system conforms to SKF standards and offers shortest possible
delivery time.
Order handling system
The fully automated order handling system followed in the plant conforms to
SKFs global standards. Starting right at receiving the orders and updating it
to the factory channels to delivery and inventory management, the system is
equipped to track multiple orders, thus saving valuable time.

Hybrid bearings

SKF Cam Follower Units

SKF hybrid bearings combine rings made of


bearing steel and rolling elements made of
bearing grade silicon nitride (Si3N4). They are
dimensionally interchangable with similarly
sized all-steel bearings and can substantially
improve reliability and robustness when
incorporated into new or existing industrial
equipment. This is particularly true in all
applications where the bearings are often
exposed to potentially damaging abrasive
particles, inadequate lubrication, vibration
or stray electric currents, and other harsh
operating conditions.
