Even in our small, agriculturally based community
we often forget to stop and
thank those around us, our
friends and family, those
farmers who work so hard
to provide to the world the
necessities for survival. We
have so much in the world
that we owe to farmers. It is
so much more than just our
food, in todays world all the
things we take for granted
can be attributed to farmers. This week is National
Thank a Farmer Week. So,
I would like to remind you
all to take a moment from

The East Atchison Wolves
high school track season will
be starting the first week of
March. Students are getting
in shape for the upcoming
practices and meets.
Tarkio and Fairfax will be
consolidating for this sport,
just as they did football. It
will consist of the best three
people from each school for
a total of six for all of the
events. Wish them luck as
they start the season with
good wins while participating in the EA Wolves track
team.
Thanks for all of the upcoming support from both
of the Fairfax and Tarkio
communities. This will be a
great season for track since
there are some very good
athletes going out for track
this year.

According to tradition, if
a groundhog comes out of its
hole on February 2nd, and
sees its shadow, there will
be six more weeks of winter
weather; no shadow means
an early spring. But where
did this tradition come from?
Groundhog Day has its roots
in the ancient Christian tradition of Candlemas Day,
when clergy would bless and
distribute candles needed
for winter. The candles represented how long and cold
the winter would be. Germans expanded on this concept by selecting an animal
the hedgehog as a means
of predicting weather. Once
they came to America, German settlers in Pennsylvania continued the tradition,
although they switched from
hedgehogs to groundhogs.

FCCLA Week

by Haley Murry
FCCLA week is February
9-13. The FCCLA chapter
has dress-up days and activities. Monday was Pajama
Day and Tuesday was Favorite Sports Team. The FCCLA
chapter will be in Maryville
at the Region 1 meeting on
Wednesday. Thursday is Hat
Day, and Friday is Wear Red
Day.
The activities that we
have are to guess how many
gummy bears are in a jar,
and a half court shot contest. The elementary will get
candy bags Friday for Valentines Day. The winners for
the dress-up days will also
get a bag of candy. The winner of the gummy bear contest gets the jar of gummy
bears, and the winner of the
half court shot gets a bag of
FCCLA prizes and candy.
