GROUP HOUSING
WHEREAS Residence Life Committee should be able to oversee all aspects
of student housing and selection,
WHEREAS the current group living on campus includes two distinct but
similarly arduous processes that are difficult to distinguish for students,
WHEREAS current group living selection and adherence in these two
processes are overseen in different ways and fractured between Campus Life
Office and Residence Life Committee,
WHEREAS there is increased desire for small group living and in order to
make this housing option efficient and easy for groups to apply,
WHEREAS the lengthy application for both Formal Group and Theme
Housing does not comport well with Lawrences attempts to be sustainable,
WHEREAS the ability for as many groups of students to live together as
possible during their time at Lawrence is diminished by the longevity of
Formal Group House compacts,
WHEREAS groups of students that are student-led do not have the same
opportunity to apply for group living due to Formal Group Housing being
restricted to LUCC recognized organizations and the availability of houses
for Theme housing continues to shrink,
WHEREAS groups of students who are a positive force in the community
through a group living space should have the opportunity to apply for a
larger house or smaller house the following year should their numbers
fluctuate as members of the community leave and new ones arrive,
