HPSUM 5.0 New Features

New Hardware Support
Online Qlogic Fibre Channel HBA firmware support
(All updates can be done at once with only one reboot to activate)
Support for 6Gb SAS BL switches
Multiple repositories
The User is no longer limited to a single repository containing components to be
updated on the targets. You can add multiple repositories. The HP website
continues as an alternate repository to get the latest updates from ftp.hp.com.
Dependency checking between targets
HP SUM now performs dependency checking between targets. This is known as
inter-target dependency checking. If there are multiple targets selected to update at
one time, HP SUM can check to see if those targets need any updates with
dependencies on other components and sequence those updates in the correct
order.


Finding associated targets
During the target discovery process, if HP SUM detects other potential targets
associated with the original target, it will present the Associated Targets dialog
and allow you to select any of the associated target to be updated. The
associated targets include:

iLO Onboard Administrator
Onboard Administrator Virtual Connect
Enclosure level dependency management

HP SUM looks at the OA, Virtual Connect, and servers together and updates
them in the proper sequence.


GatherLogs
HP SUM 5.0.0 has a new utility to gather the HP SUM log and debug files:
Linux: GatherLogs.sh
Windows: GatherLogs.exe
The GatherLogs utility must be on writable media for it to function properly as it will
place the output file on the directory where it is executed from.
OS auditing integration
All of HP SUM actions/events are now stored in the System Event log for Windows
and OS Audit log for Linux so you can see a history of what changes HP SUM has
made on your system.
Reports generated on demand
Reports can be generated on demand using the Generate Report button in the HP
SUM User Interface (UI). The three report types are Inventory Selections, Target
Firmware Details, and Target Installables Details. Each report will contain the
information that HP SUM knows up to that point. Repost generation is still also
available from the command line.

Improved Graphical User Interface (GUI)
The GUI has been upgraded to a 3 screen update; Source Selections, Select
Targets and Review/Install Updates. This upgrade simplifies the experience and
allows the user to do multiple things at once.
Ability to self-update
HP SUM now checks the web for the most current update to HP SUM using the pull
from web functionality. If it finds a newer version that you want to use, it will
download it, stop the current version, start the new version, and restore you to
where you were in HP SUM.
Scheduling of updates
Updates can be pushed out to target systems at a predetermined time the user
sets based on the time zone that the servers are in and actually performs the
updates on the systems. This allows the user to stage the updates much sooner
and reduces the maintenance window.


Reduction in ports needed to perform updates
The new version of HP SUM requires as little as 5 or fewer ports to be open.
Previous requirements needed as many as 25 ports to be open to perform certain
functions.
Ability to reanalyze a target without leaving HP SUM
HP SUM now allows the user to monitor the progress on updated servers by
reanalyzing the target servers without having to exit HP SUM.
Update of Linux servers from Windows systems
Linux servers, as well as Windows servers can be updated from a Windows
workstation. This gives the user the ability to manage both types of server OSs in a
mixed server environment. Note: This applies to firmware updates only.
Global force and reboot options
HP SUM now supports global force and reboot options.
