SAP HANA: APPLIANCE

Q6: What is the SAP Appliance model?
SAP HANA appliance is a flexible, multi-purpose, data-source-agonistic in-memory appliance that combines SAP software
components optimized to run on Intel-based hardware delivered by SAPs partners such as Dell, Cisco, IBM, HP, and Fujitsu and
VCE. It includes a number of integrated SAP software components including the SAP HANA database, real-time replication
services, data services, data and lifecycle management, support for multiple interfaces based on industry stand ards and easy to
use data modelling tool called SAP HANA studio.

Q7: Which server vendors does EMC partner with for provide SAP HANA Appliance?
EMC partners with Cisco and VCE for the SAP HANA Appliance which includes EMC VNX storage platform.

Q8: How is the appliance sized, ordered and delivered?

HANA system size and number of nodes is primarily driven by main memory requirements and number of expected concurrent
users. SAP offers a quicksizer for HANA as well as specific scripts that can be run against an existing SAP system to determine
memory requirements. The storage amount is precisely defined in relationship to memory requirements. SAP typically helps
customers to size the HANA system correctly. EMC works closely with Cisco and VCE in prepackaging the storage components.
Ordering and fulfillment is delivered through Cisco and VCE sales channels.

Q9: How does EMC engage with customers and server partners?

SAP HANA: TAILORED DATA CENTER INTERGATION (TDI)

Q10: What is SAP HANA tailored data center integration and the difference as compared to
appliance model?
In addition to the SAP HANA appliance, SAP now offers the opportunity to run the SAP HANA server with a customers preferred
storage solution. This option enables a reduction in hardware and operational costs at installed base customers through the
reuse of existing hardware components and operational processes.

Q11: What does SAP HANA server mean in the context of SAP HANA tailored data center
integration?
SAP HANA server means the exact same bill of material as the certified SAP HANA appliance but without storage. The availability
depends on the support of the SAP HANA hardware partners.

Q12: When will SAP HANA tailored data center integration be available?
SAP is currently carrying out several pilot customers projects for SAP HANA tailored data center integration and is plan ning GA
the end of 2013. Customers should always check with SAP for current GA plans.

Q13: How will SAP support customers with SAP HANA tailored data center integration?
SAP will provide SAP HANA certification training which has to be successfully completed by the customer in order to proceed w ith
installation and validation. Customers should work with their hardware partners to ensure hardware support requirements are
being fulfilled.

Q14: How will SAP verify the customer installation and configuration?
SAP will provide their customers with the Hardware Verification Tool to perform the required test scenarios. By using this tool,
SAP HANA customers together with their hardware partner and Enterprise Storage vendor will be able to assess whether their
combination of SAP HANA server and storage system fulfills SAPs data throughput KPIs. Test results will be analyzed by SAP. If
the KPIs are fulfilled, then SAP release decision will be prepared.

Q15: What happens if, in addition to the SAP HANA system, other systems access the same
storage?
SAP will introduce a hardware verification tool set, which gives the hardware partner and storage vendor the possibility to
ensure that SAPs KPIs are being met. Whenever a customer decides to change their SAP HANA Infrastructure (for example, by
connecting additional systems to the same Enterprise Storage system), the data throughput measures will have to be repeated.
SAP will not provide support if the storage system no longer fulfills the required KPIs for the connected SAP HANA system(s).

Q16: How much storage does HANA require for the data area if Enterprise Storage is used?
If the SAP HANA system uses Enterprise Storage, a storage space of 2*RAM for the data area can be used (although 4*RAM is
recommended). This is possible because the disk space required for data can be extended easily if Enterprise Storage is used.

Q17: Which EMC storage platforms will be offered in the TDI model?
When TDI is GA, EMC current plans call for all VMAX enterprise storage from 10K and above as approved by the specific HANA
server vendor and SAP requirements. EMC is working with server vendors now and will announce support when it is
approved. EMC VNX storage is currently being used for the certified appliances only.

Q18: Is EMC Storage certified by SAP for TDI deployments?

Today, SAP is in pilot phase for TDI deployments. Customer can request a TDI deployment with EMC VMAX through their SAP
account executive. SAP provides KPI requirements that must be achieved by the customer and validated by SAP. For more
information visit: Welcome to SAP HANA. When SAP announces GA for the TDI model, EMC plans to be certified for VMAX based
on SAP defined KPIs and certification guidelines.

Q19: Are EMC Services required to install and configure EMC storage for SAP HANA TDI?
EMC and server vendor services are highly recommended to implement a HANA via TDI model. This insures the knowledge
gained by EMC testing with HANA in mixed workloads can be leveraged to insure performance isolation for both HANA and nonHANA workloads. Planned availability for EMC services is end of 2013.

DISASTER TOLERANCE / BACKUP & RECOVERY / DR

Q29: SAP Disaster Tolerance (DT): What is storage based DT?
SAP defines DT as software replication of a HANA system (synchronously or asynchronously) between a primary and secondary
system. For synchronous replication, customers can choose from two modes where the primary system waits with committing
the transaction until it receives a reply that the data arrived in the secondary system either in memory or on persistent sto rage.
In asynchronous replication mode, the primary system does not wait for acknowledgement. Storage based DT manages data
replication on the storage level unknown to the running HANA system. It has the advantage to utilize the secondary system
entirely for QA/DEV workloads, only separate dedicated storage is required. SAP OSS Note 1755396 describes which disk based

solutions are certified. EMC offers currently synchronous storage replication with MirrorView and is planning to make
asynchronous replication available by Q1 2014.

Q30: SAP DT: What is EMCs offer for the Appliance Model? Is it certified?
For SAP HANA Appliance offered by Cisco and VCE with EMC VNX storage, synchronous protection is provided with Mirrow view/s.
This solution is certified by SAP. For more information see EMC Disaster Tolerance for SAP HANA White Paper

Q31: SAP DT: What is EMCs offer for Tailored Data Center Integration (TDI)? Is it certified?
SAP has not currently made the TDI option generally available. When TDI becomes available and SAP publishes KPIs and
certification requirements for Disaster Tolerance, EMC plans include SRDF for VMAX.
