was designed a month later by Wozniak. They demonstrated the prototype to the public
in December and introduce it to the public in April 1977. It made Apple the lead among
personal computer makers; the Apple II had started the boom in personal computer sale in
the late 1970s.

By 1978, Apple was making $2 million in profits solely on the strength of Apple II. The
Apple II wasnt state of the art, but it did allow computer enthusiasts to create and sell
their own programs. Although Apple did not profit directly from these programs, they did
see more interest as the uses for the Apple II broadened.

Former Pepsi President John Sculley, whod joined Apple to play the role of Jobs
babysitter of sorts, couldnt handle working with him. In fact, Sculley orchestrated the
outer himself, comparing Jobs to a relentless zealot. In 2009, after news broke that Jobs
failing health had forced him to take medical leave, the companys stock fell almost 10%.
