It is a great Mercy of Allah(SWT) that you are gentle and kind towards them; for, had you been harsh and hard-hearted, they would all have broken away from you (Quran 3:159). The Holy Prophet (SAW) was kind not only to human beings but also to birds and animals. Once, one of his companions took two young sparrows from a nest. The mother sparrow was crying restlessly. He ordered his companion to put the young birds back in the nest. The Holy Prophet (SAW) ordered his followers to sharpen their knife well before slaughtering an animal. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was perticularly kind to the children and the slave. Hazrat Anas (RA) who was the servant of the Prophet (SAW) said that the Messenger of Allah never scolded him for any mistake. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was equally kind to non-believers. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) once travelled to the city of Taif in order to spread the preaching of Islam. The people of Taif treated him with utter disrespect and started throwing stones at him. They continued to do so till they drove the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) out of the city. Upon this incident the angel Jibraeel (AS) appeared and sought his permission to destroy the people of Taif. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) did not allow him to do so instead he raised his hands in the air and prayed for them.
