using the input tests and output tests:
l Input to verify the correct operation of the micro-switches
l Output to verify correct operation of the switch lamps/LEDs

4.2.3 Switch Adjustments

The player panel switch does not require any routine operational adjustments. Use
the following procedures to optimize switch reliability:
1. Make certain the lamp fits securely into the lamp socket and that both sets of
contacts are properly engaged. Carefully bend the lamp contacts slightly away
from the flat part of the lamp (perpendicular) to help make a better connection
after inserting the lamp/LED.
2. Ensure the micro-switches and the lamp sockets are properly attached to the
switch body.
3. Verify that the lens cap and legend plate fit properly on the plunger and that
the plunger moves freely without binding within the switch body.

4.4.2 Cleaning the JCM UBA Bill Acceptor

1. Open the EGM door and turn power off.

2. Remove the transport assembly.
3. Open the transport assembly and wipe the lenses, belts, rollers, and bill path
until clean with a mild soap and water solution.
4. Inspect the lens sensors. If damaged in any way (scratched or clouded), replace
as needed.
Do not scratch the rollers because they will pick up dirt faster, increasing PM
scheduling.
Do not use solvents or alcohol! These cleaners can dry out the rubber components
and cause early failure. Also, a strong solvent can cloud the sensor lenses.

If timing marks are seen through the belts, or if they have frayed edges, replace the
belts. If O rings are cracked, replace them.

Calibration of the UBA Bill Acceptor

Field calibration is not required. The UBA unit only requires calibration when a
component (sensor board) is replaced. The calibration process involves a PC based
program that adjusts the sensors to factory levels and is done at a repair depot
only.

4.4.3 Cleaning the MARS Cashflow Bill Acceptor

Remove the Acceptor Module from the chassis to open the front sensor area. Forcing
the bill path open without removing the Acceptor Module from the chassis will damage
the connector board located at the rear of the Acceptor Module. Remember to turn off
the EGM when performing any cleaning.
1. Release the Acceptor Module from its normal operating position.
2. Open the Acceptor Module unit by pulling up on the yellow cap.
3. Clear the bill path area of any foreign objects.
4. Clean the bill path and sensors as needed.
For stubborn dirt, a small amount of mild non-abrasive soap may be applied to a damp
cloth. Make sure no streaks or residue from the cleaning product remain on the bill
path.

4. If necessary, adjust the emitter/receiver alignment by loosening the screws that
secure either or both optic sensor mounts and sliding the optic(s) slightly until
they align correctly.

4.6 Reel Assembly Maintenance

Always wear eye protection when using pressurized air or cleaning solvents.

1. Check to ensure power is Off on the EGM.

2. Check each assembly for proper installation.
3. Check each reel strip. Each one should be free of dust and fingerprints. Reel
strips manufactured after 2001 are not sealed. The dust and smoke in the air
and the oils from human hands may cause stains and/or discoloration.
Carefully wipe each reel strip with a cloth and water to remove any dust or dirt.
4. Check each reel strip for proper attachment to the reel frame.
5. Check the harness on each stepper reel for proper routing and ensure that the
harness wires are secured away from any moving parts.
6. The stepper reel assembly does not require lubrication or adjustments. Use
compressed air (not to exceed 60 psi) to remove any dust accumulations from
the encoding flags on the inner reel, the reel sensor, the reel chassis, and reel
frame.
7. Clean the reel sensor with mild glass cleaner as needed.

4.7 Monitor Maintenance

A CRT or LCD monitor may be present in IGTEGMs. Typically, the primary display
will have a touchscreen, and all others will not.

4.7.1 Video Monitor Inspection

Use the following procedures to inspect an IGTEGMmonitor:
1. With the EGM door closed and the power On, visually check the video display
for areas of discoloration or fade-out on the video screen.

48

2. Visually check the video images (game/paytable display) for correct horizontal
and vertical alignment. Make sure all letters, words, and images appear clearly
on the monitor screen.
3. Verify that the EGM responds correctly to screen inputs.
4. Open the EGM door and turn the power Off.
5. Inspect for dust buildup on the touchscreen, cracks in the monitor mask, or
chips/scratches on the touchscreen.
6. Visually check any CRT monitor for burned-in images.
Replace the video monitor or touchscreen if they are physically damaged. Do not
attempt to clean or make any adjustments.

4.7.2 Video Monitor Cleaning

Use the following procedure to clean the monitors:
1. Open the main door and power Off the EGM.
2. Clean the plastic monitor mask with a damp, lint-free cloth.
3. Clean the touchscreen using isopropyl alcohol or an anti-static glass cleaner and
a lint-free cloth.
4. If necessary, remove the monitor from the EGM and clean the inside of the
chassis using compressed air (not to exceed 60 psi).

4.8 AVP Air Filter Maintenance

The following information has been extracted from CN4392B. For information
about installation and replacement of the air filters, refer to the CN. Air filter
elements require periodic cleaning to maintain sufficient air flow. When
accumulated dust and debris clog the filter elements, the Brain Box will overheat.
It is recommended that the filter elements be removed and cleaned every 60 to 90
days of operation. However, some jurisdictions and some environments may
require more frequent cleaning to maintain unrestricted airflow.
Always power the EGM off before removing an air filter.

927-556-03

49

Lesson 4 PM Procedures

MT321
Preventive Maintenance

4.8.1 Air Filter Cleaning

Filter element cleaning can be accomplished using a vacuum cleaner or by bouncing
the filter against a hard surface to dislodge the accumulated surface debris. This
activity can create a significant amount of dust to become airborne, so the cleaning
process should be conducted in a well-ventilated area.
The filter should then be washed in mild soap and water to remove the remaining
contaminates. Blot both sides of the element dry with a paper towel. Avoid the use
of high-pressure air as it may damage the integrity of the filter element. Maintain a
supply of spare filter elements to replace any that may be damaged in the process.
If an EGM has been in operation without an air filter element for some time,
thorough cleaning of the inside of the Brain Box may be required:
l The Brain Box should be removed from the EGM and opened by a qualified
technician.
l Canned compressed air is the typical method of blowing out the dirt and
debris from all components within the Brain Box.
l Air pressure should be set to ensure that it does not cause damage to the
internal electronics within the Brain Box.
l Avoid spinning internal fans inside the Brain Box with the compressed air.
l Blow away all of the debris accumulated in the heat sinks inside the box.
l Ensure that all air intake and exhaust openings in the box are clean.
l Clean any air ducts that are associated with the particular EGM model. When
installing the Brain Box, verify the cooling fan operation and inspect both
intake and exhaust air paths to ensure they are clean and free of obstructions
and debris.
It is recommended that the Brain Box be opened, inspected for debris, and cleaned
annually. Very fine dust and cigarette smoke contaminants can pass through the
filters and accumulate inside the box. Maintaining air filters and cleanliness of the
Brain Box electronics will ensure EGM performance and long-term reliability.
