After a huge social media campaign, it seems like PEMRA took action and stopped Geo TV
transmission in major cities of Pakistan including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad and many more big cities .
People are very happy on this news because Geo was portraying bad image of Pakistan worldwide.
As all we know that GEO is a Anti-Army Channel and supported by India, Israel and America thats why People demanded to ban Geo TV permanently
in the whole country.

Geo TV is working as an agent in Pakistan to divide the nation and make them feel insecure about their own countrys armed forces like ISI and
Pakistan Army. They are continuously blaming ISI for the attack on Hamid Mir without any solid proof. They just want to destroy ISIs image in the
world.
Geo TV is changing the basic concepts of young Pakistanis by spreading slogans like Perhany Likhnay Kay Siva, Pakistan Ka Matlab Kiya. We want to
stick to our roots & religion and we as a Nation are proud of our countrys base which is Pakistan Ka Matlab Kiya? LA ILAHA ILLAL LA.

Blasphemy issue
Last Year, the situation became even more volatile after religious extremists accused the station of broadcasting blasphemous material. Geo
TV is Pakistan's most viewed commercial TV station. According to a Gallup TV Ratings Service report, the channel had seven million cable
and satellite viewers in May 2013. In comparison, the state-owned channel, Pakistan Television (PTV), had only 1.5 million viewers.
Rights organizations believe the Pakistani military wants to punish Geo TV for its critical reporting on the ISI, and that the blasphemy issue,
too, has been orchestrated to harm the channel and its leaders.

Blasphemy, or the insult of Prophet Mohammad, is a sensitive topic in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, where 97 percent of its 180 million
people are Muslims. Rights activist have long demanded the reforms of the controversial blasphemy laws, which were introduced by the
Islamic military dictator General Zia-ul-Haq in the 1980s, but to no avail.

A divisive decision
Following the blasphemy accusation, three members of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) cancelled Geo TV's
license on May 21 and ordered that the channels offices be sealed. Although the decision was later revoked by other members of the
organization, most cable operators across Pakistan have decided to take down the channel.

While some Pakistanis expressed shock over the channel's suspension, some welcomed the move. "This is one of the darkest days for press
freedom in Pakistan," wrote one viewer on Twitter.
"Congratulations! Finally the voice of masses has been heard. Geo's license has been suspended!" Naz Baloch, member of the conservative
Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf party, wrote on Facebook. The religious right-wing and supporters of the army call Geo TV "traitor" which has "no
regard for national interests."

Punishing Geo TV?

Pakistan's liberal sections and rights activists consider the attempt on Mir's life and the campaign against Geo TV to be part of the powerful
security service's coercive methods to muzzle the media and silence opposition.
At the same time, rival media groups of Geo TV have started running shows which portray the ISI in a positive light. Islamabad-based
journalist, Abdul Sattar, says that the real issue is not whether Geo TV has committed blasphemy or not.
"The military does not like that independent media channels in Pakistan now criticize them and hold them accountable for their abuse of
power," Sattar told DW, adding that the Pakistani military generals are also unhappy with Geo TV's "friendly" attitude towards the country's
arch-rival India.
"The army thinks that an action against Geo TV is necessary to teach a lesson to independent journalists," the journalist added.

Activists say the blasphemy law is often used to settle petty disputes and personal vendettas in Pakistan

Pakistan's independent Human Rights Commission (HRCP) said in a statement last week that it could no longer stay silent on "the malicious
campaign unleashed against Geo and the manner in which pressure is being exerted to close down the channel."
"Irrespective of what the HRCP or anyone else might think about Geo's editorial judgment, instigating people to come out on the street
following charges of blasphemy is an extremely dangerous trend," the rights group said.
"The organization must point out that the environment of fear that has been created is making the lives of journalists working for Geo
extremely vulnerable. They are being intimidated and a large number of them have faced attacks," the organization added.
In light of this development, Sattar is of the view that all journalists should stand by Geo TV and put aside their differences to safeguard the
freedom of press in the South Asian nation.

Ethics and independence

But not all Pakistani journalists agree with Sattar. TV anchor Arsalan Khalid believes it was highly irresponsible on the part of Geo TV to
accuse the ISI. "The Pakistani constitution clearly says the country's armed forces and secret services cannot be blamed for such crimes. It is
true that people criticize the ISI more often than before, but what we saw on April 19 was a news channel running shows for eight hours
maligning the ISI," Khalid told DW from Islamabad.
Faheem Siddiqui, a creative manager at an advertising agency in Islamabad, is not in favor of banning the channel or cancelling its license,
but says Geo TV should be "punished for ridiculing the ISI in public." "It is not objectionable to criticize national institutes, but it is totally
wrong to defame them," Siddiqui told DW, adding that members of the Pakistani media had been "misusing" its freedom. "Only when the
media crosses its boundaries, does the government and the military take action."

However, Siddiqui denies that the recent blasphemy issue has anything to do with Geo TV's rift with the ISI. "The TV station has offended
many people by airing a blasphemous show. The head of the channel should have personally apologized to the nation."
But many agree that the freedom of Pakistan's press is at stake, and that those who are demanding greater control of the media are directly or
indirectly trying to protect the ISI and its alleged crimes.
"The struggle to report independently and objectively will continue," said Nasir Tufail, a senior producer at the private news channel, Geo TV.
"What we have achieved is the result of our decades-long battle against suppression, and our longing for freedom."

RECOMMENDS THE CANCELLATION OF ITS BROADCAST LICENSE.
Pakistans Ministry of Defense on Tuesday submitted a formal complaint to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), seeking action against
Geo TV and Jang Group for defaming a state institution, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Directorate.
Submitted under the PEMRA Ordinance 2002, the complaint claims that Geo News launched a vicious campaign of false accusations against the ISI, a state
institution tasked to work for the defense, sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan. According to the complaint, The telecast in question/campaign was aimed at
falsely linking it [the ISI] with the terrorist outfits/activities. The statement specifically noted the footage being re-broadcast in India. Said footage was picked up by
foreign media particularly Indian Channels who instead of objectively reporting the incident overplayed it repeatedly, it said.
The said reporting has violated the specific terms and conditions of its license, it said, adding that this was not an isolated incident. Geo Network has a history of
acting illegally in furtherance of the anti-Pakistan agenda, it said, offering to provide additional evidence if PEMRA required it.
According to the complaint, the editorial team and management of Geo has clearly violated PEMRA rules, including casting aspersions against the Judiciary or
the integrity of the Armed Forces of Pakistan and maligning any individual in person or certain groups, segments of social, public and moral life of the country, as
per PEMRA rules.
The complaint also points out that print media, especially newspapers published by the Jang Group, published defamatory, libelous and scandalous material and
reiterates that such false, malicious and irresponsible reporting is continuation of policy for Geo News.
Citing the evidence provided in its complaint, the Ministry of Defense has demanded that PEMRA immediately suspend the license of Geo News and, after
investigation, cancel it. In addition, it recommends commencing prosecution of the management of Geo under sections 33 and 36 of PEMRA Ordinance 2002.
Earlier in the day, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had condemned the attack on Hamid Mir, terming it a national tragedy. However, he said the ongoing
attacks on national institutions in the press were regrettable. It is a matter of serious concern that national institutions are being attacked and blamed without any
evidence, he said in a statement. Key national security institutions are not criticized and maligned in this manner anywhere in the world, he added.
The interior minister also condemned the dissemination of the negative propaganda through local organizations. Our enemies spread the information across the
globe, he said, in an apparent reference to pundits using the Geo reports to slate the ISI.
On April 19, around 5:30 p.m., Geo News anchor Hamid Mir, who hosts the show Capital Talk, was shot six times while traveling to the channels bureau in
Karachi. Shortly after the attack, the channel claimedvia his colleagues and family membersthe injured anchor had alleged that if he were attacked, the ISI
and its chief, Lt. Gen. Zaheer ul Islam, should be held responsible. The channel then demanded action against the ISI with columnist Ansar Abbasi demanding that
the ISI chief resign to save face.
The militarys Inter-Services Public Relations wing responded by condemning the attack. However, a spokesman said the channels accusations were misleading.
Raising allegations against ISI or the head of the ISI without any basis is highly regrettable and misleading, the spokesman added.

1. On 11 May 2013 the role of Geo channel should be questioned . It was against the election policy to leak
the results so of one poling station out of 100 before 5 O` Clock . People sitting in TV lounges carried
these influential waves enough to change their Voting sign . It helped political activist to change the result
of pole before announcement . For example League member could not get majority votes in 99 poling
stations out of 100 . But made its victory through one poling station. There is a big question mark on the
role of Geo : revenue earned after elections helped in inauguration of Geo Super as well as Geo Kahani .
Geo Proved itself best by picking over other leading channels . Coverage of rigging by Geo is like a clown
telling some mischiefs of
their counterpart .
2. Mubashir Luqman & Hamid Mir both are controversial figures & bad masks of Media channels . In
2012 one Video of M. Luqman got fame ; earlier he refused to get dictation by ARY owner in capital talk ,
then agreed to get dictation in a famous case , of a leading business man ( forgot his name , might be raja
Imtiaz or else ) . It was set earlier question would be asked according to the choice of Culprit / accused .
This role is really misleading .
3. It was off course Taliban who attacked on Rumi but every one knew who is behind Taliban (ISI +
Conservative faction ) . Hamid Mir policy is to channel media is like a chameleon : on one hand he has
linkages with Taliban (proved ) , he criticized them also just to show he is doing best . His criticism on
army is true as well as on judiciary , it should be allowed but to whom ????? who is working for his own
interest ? He is getting 26 lac previous year monthly salary which we can not get even in years . Mubashir
Lucam 18 Lac and other anchors according to their prestige .
4. What is done in capital talks : An anchor provides us stories full of farce and buffoonery just to rate
high the pro grammes . We have rating agency which check which show have highest ratings give ads to
the channels . Who says media faces are telling true , they are trying best to compete each other to get
highest rewards .
5. Single drama/ show per hour is allowed to have 15 mins ads to be aired . All channels aired 30 to 35
mins ads for why ?

That`s why Noam Chomsky has rightly said that free speech should have limitation.Neither conservative
nor liberal groups should be allowed to cross the assigned limits .Question is : has govt designed editorial
policy ? Why not it would have by licensing each channel .The policies which envisaged each channel to
give license were outdated after privatization . Editorial policy should be needed to tackle the issue .
Banning is not solution but will escalate other issues. But Media pundits earlier years refused to accept
new editorial policy or new make-over which should be re framed by all Pakistan `s journalistic society.
Another problem is : In Pakistan PEMRA & information ministry has twisted policies . Either Pakistan
should have media regulator or just information ministry

Already said it is the case of rating which forced private channels to do such acts . ARY , SAMMA and GEO

have aired the same Kalam in back ground. Why PEMRA chairman Abdul Jabbar who himself is a corrupt
person noticed petitions against GEO. Within one span of year he had been mobilized from grade 19 to
grade 21 .He is caretaker or acting chairman of PEMRA because his term of office has been expired
.Information ministry as well as Pakistan Electronic Media Regulator Authority could not choose another
chairman .He has fixed the slot of chairperson of this body which is proven it is biased itself .Its orders
should not be accepted unless its transparency would be proven .
Mubashir Luqman aired a show discussed Veena Malik and Asad Khan marriage show connoting Islam in
this context .I want to ask from Mubashir Luqman why we used Islam for our interest. Its not a
blasphemy rather market conflicts, Amir Liaqat Ramadan show rating is the highest one among all
channels thats why its name has been changed to Neelam Ghar as well .ARY is angry with the growing
reputation of Amir Liaqat (I am not in favor of this person ,just telling fact) .His reputation could not be
challenged by Junaid Jamshid as well as Waseem Badami in their Ramadan show .
Here are a few clips of Mubasir Luqman show where he accused Shaista , Khali ur Rehman .. Why Nida
Yasir and Maya khan did not confess the act of blasfamy whereas Shaista Lodhi appealed to us forgive her
as well to Allah as it is not a proposed act . PEMRA has issued orders against Shaista , then it should have
carried such orders earlier to cease such acts. It did not took notice of ARY as well as of Maya Khan
channel .

Now See Nida Yasir of ARY where Amjad Sabri Qawal is singing the SAME Qawali , case is
not highlighted as well as it does not carry subtitles so one must watch the video of
Mubashir Luqman Show where he presented blasphemy of both

Shaista has apologized but why not Maya and Nida ? They should too , if Geo will be ban

Geo Television Network has been a part of various controversies over the years. The most recent controversy of Shahista Wahidis
blasphemous act on air during the morning show Utho Jago Pakistan, has led to the ban of entire Geo Network.
PEMRA took notice of the never-ending complaints against Geo, filed by people belonging to seemingly every strata of life. The decision by Pakistan
Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) did not come immediately; in fact it took almost a month for it to roll out this conclusive decision that
stands valid at least till 28th May 2014.
Geo TV is the ultimate product of the pioneering media house, Jang Group that has literally laid the foundations of the print media in Pakistan. Mir
Khalil ur Rehman the man behind Jang Group of Newspapers, grounded this empire long before anyone else thus marking an unsaid monopoly of
jang Group in the media industry of Pakistan.
When Jang Groups heir Geo entered satellite television industry, it inherited the monopoly in its legacy. Thus beings the era of GEOs unparalleled
hounding to anything & anyone that dared to stand in its way.
Lets talk about Geo Networks rich history of getting into controversies with big names, a few of which are:

1. GEO/Jang vs. Aamir Liaquat

The great entertainer, Aamir Liaquat is renowned for his loyalties with GEO TV. but little do people remember the time when Aamir Liaquat left Geo for
ARY, only to be humiliated in public by a video that got leaked on the internet by a certain unnamed source that would have ruined any other Islamic
scholars career but NOT Aamir Liaquat. No Sire, Aamir not only bounced back from that video he bounced back in GEO.
However GEOs blackmailing did not go unnoticed, many still believe that the video was only the first step to blackmail the prodigal son Aamir Liaquat
to return back home.

2. Geo/Jang & Nadia khan VS Noor & Husband

Nadia Khan, the founder of morning shows in Pakistan did something so absurd that remained the most inexplicably senseless move in any show
perhaps anywhere in the world.
In 2010, morning show on Geo hosted by Nadia Khan was banned by UAE government. The show was banned due to privacy concerns raised by the
husband of a former Pakistani actress, Noor. Nadia Khan, the shows host was accused of making a family matter public which should have stayed
between the actress and her husband.

3. Geo/Jang vs. AXACT

Geo along with its publication side Jang was previously sued by Axact, a reputable IT company of Pakistan for propagating fake news against it. The
case was taken to high court of Pakistan and later on Geo came out as the culprit along with the imposition of a heavy fine.

4. Geo vs. Govt. of Pakistan

Except for this, Geo had previously been under turmoil for raising questions on the conducted elections, i.e. taking up sides of the opposition party and
standing up against the government of Pakistan.

5. Geo vs. ISI

Also Geo TV was accused of overplaying on the assassination attempt of Hamid Mir, when it blamed the prime intelligence agency of Pakistan, ISI of
being involved in the assassination, that too without any proofs.

6. Geo vs. PTI

The political leader and the founder of PTI, Imran Khan has also publicly accused Geo of telecasting personal judgments instead of going for a neutral
approach during its broadcasts, as it is medias duty to be as neutral as possible.
Geo yet existed till a few days back even after these controversial happenings. But the latest epic controversy of Shahista Wahidis blasphemous act
placed an end to Geos invulnerability, immediately imposing a ban on all of the channels telecasts, causing Geo to go completely offline.

Regulatory body suspends broadcast of Geo Television for 15 days

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on June 6, 2014 suspended Geo TVs license for 15 days and imposed a fine of Rs10 million
(US$ 100,000) , on a complaint filed by the Ministry of Defence on April 22 against airing unsubstantiated allegations against the chief of Pakistan
military Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI).
The five-member committee of PEMRA suspended the licenses of Geo News, Geo Entertainment and Geo Tez TV out of five TV channels owned and
operated by Geo/Jang group.
According to a PEMRA press release the fine has to be paid before the expiry of suspension period. It was also decided that in case of repeated
violation by Geo TV the regulatory agency shall initiate proceedings for the revocation of the license.
Earlier on May 20, Pemras private members had announced their decision to suspend the licences of Geo News, Geo Entertainment and Geo Tez till
May 28. However, the decision was disowned by the Pemra spokesperson hours after the announcement. Geo News had already apologised for the
airing of unsubstantiated allegations.
