Enhancement of the gas separation properties of polyurethane

membranes by alumina nanoparticles

In this study we want to introduce new inorganic fillers(metal oxides) used

to enhance the gas separation properties through form mix matrix
membrane the other metal oxides used previously to enhance separation gas
properties such as silica incorporation into polyimides, silica into
polyurethane herein we will use alumina (Al2O3) serve as inorganic filler
with different chain extenders which will make the complete conversion to
.organic polymer and those are 1,4-butandiol ,and 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol

Several techniques used to ensure about the incorporation into organic

polymer occurred the data collected from instrument indicate polymer
organic contain more phases which mean incorporation happened so the gas
.separation of organic polymer vary through properties of inorganic fillers
The principle of alumina nanoparticles work through increasing free volume
for polymer which made diffusion for gases easily through this study the main
idea permeability for gases decreasing but the separation of two gases
increasing so alumina nanoparticles enhance performance of organic polymer
. which served as membrane for gas separation

Targeted gas separations through polymer membrane

functionalization
Gas separation membrane be attractive material through increasing
immense amount of energy associated industrial gas separation advantages
Of gas separation membranes ability to package functional surfaces area in
. tiny devices
Polymeric membranes have already used in industrial applications where
requirement for N2 generation or H2 purification polymer served as these
. applications polyimides , polysulfone , and polyaraphenlene
Through this review we introduce for method using for functionalized
polymeric membrane such that diffusivity controlled here seeks for control
chain ,and solubility controlled seeking for enhance the solubility of
. desired gas
We did this for polymeric membrane through adding chemicals which
made change in either physical or chemical properties to enhance ability
. for gas separation
To describe the performance of polymeric membrane follow terms used
Permeability and selectivity to compare with other membrane . The
main strategy used to improve membrane inhbaition for packing of chain
through backbone mobility also we can exploiting chemical interaction

Membrane Separation
Certainly ,the vast majority of industrial gases are purified herein we
introduce the basic concepts of polymeric gas separation including
.Permeability measurement, membrane formation ,and applications
Polymeric membrane define as thin semipermeable membrane permit
gases permeable if potential chemical exist which occur through difference
pressure first membrane prepare as gas separation membrane was prism
membrane used by Monsanto to recover H2 from NH3 synthesis plant
.purge gas
Membrane not mean solid only there is gaps on molecular size between
polymer chains& from defects in the solid state of membrane. different
research indicates high permeability polymer membrane losing selectivity
.to differentiate between gases
For good polymeric membrane the permeability measurement important
here to knew best polymeric for gas separation membrane such as steady
state flow experiment . membrane formation processes can be grouped
into three methods: Dry phase inversion process, Wet phase inversion
process ,and best method used for commercial membrane Dry-wet phase
.inversion process

Membrane Technologies for Gas Separation Applications

As we knew petroleum based fuel used as main source of energy today.
But depletion of petroleum reserves encourage us looking for alternative
.energy sources such as coal, biomass
Gas separation membranes solve this issue through increasing both energy
efficiency and maximizing fuel efficiency gas separation used in different
.applications include power generator and chemical synthesis processes
Power generation mean producing power from hydrogen or coal to
separate H2 and CO2 to improve energy efficiency . chemical synthesis
processes include separate for gases at high temperature to increase energy
.efficiency and yield processes
Inorganic membrane used to reduce cost for gas separation applications
those membrane such as microporous membrane applicable for gas
separation at high temperature and high pressure. The new high
temperature also used to support thin pd film alloy to separate gases from
.mixtures
