Lent is a special season of repentance and reflection
we observe in the 40 days before Easter. This years
Lent Devotion book, A Pilgrims Journey is written by
Dr. Dan Sharp, and inspired by Jon Bunyans classic, A
Pilgrims Progress. Pick up your printed copy for $5 in
the Grand Hall this morning, or an ebook for $4 at

Notes

T R A D I T I O N A L

One of the themes during the season of Lent is

repentance. As we were reminded in the Ash
Wednesday service of our own mortality, we were also
reminded of our need of the Savior and His forgiveness.
Repentance is central to reconciliation with God. In the
service today, youll notice the Call to Prayer and the use
of the Greek phrase Kyrie eleison, Lord, have mercy.
That phrase is one of the oldest in Christian worship,
appearing as early as the 4th century, though its biblical
roots go back into Old Testament times (I Chron. 16:35).
During Reformation times it was associated with the Ten
Commandments. Youll note the two acts of worship are
combined in todays service as they lead us into the
Pastoral Prayer of the morning. The Lenten Devotional
Booklet is also designed to guide us through these
days as we reflect on Jesus journey to the cross.
