Question 7

EVALUATION

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you

have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Reflecting back at preliminary task I have learnt majority of media
terminology now compared to before. As during my preliminary task which
was done as a group we did not focus on all four areas such as mise en
scene, camera, editing and sound in depth. We focused on key shots like
over the shoulder shot and an enigma to the film instead on focusing at
target audience.
Progress from the preliminary exercise has been a big jump because our
final product includes all the elements that professional media institutions
and real media product consist. Our opening sequence includes stages
that lead to the production like research where we looked at other opening
sequences of the same genre, research on the target audience that is
suitable for our product, research on the types of camera angles and their
effectiveness, how different narrative represents a particular social group
and many more. All this research leads us to combine out ideas together
in order to start planning our production. I have learnt that without
research the planning of the final product will be in complete and perhaps
the lack of knowledge and ideas will lead to a poor production. Therefore
research is important to began the process and generate new ideas.
Pre- production includes of all the stages of planning that lead to
production such as deciding the mise en scene for example the location,
costume. The sound could be digetic or non digetic to create a certain
mood and pass it on to audience. Deciding the camera angles ensures
that no rules are broken and everything within the opening sequence
flows as one piece. Pre production is very fundamental
because it
finalised what has to be done and also has call sheets, contracts and
backup plans. Which cover the risk assessments and any other problem
that occurs during the production of the final opening sequence? Preproduction creates a fine guide line for the product to run smoothly.
However during our preliminary task we did not think about any
alternatives that could occur during the filming. Therefore if there was any
problem during the filming the entire process wouldve been incomplete.
Production is the main stage out of all the stages as it finalises the quality
of the camera, mise en scene and maybe sound. Comparing the
production during preliminary task to the real production of out opening
sequence, the preliminary production had many pauses as the planning

was poor however the real production of the opening sequence was very
organised which lead to less time being wasted.
We also thought about Marketising our production where as we didnt get
to that point during our preliminary task. Marketising our product gave us
a real taste of how real institutions sell their products and marketise them.
We used ways such as making animated banners, posters and social
media etc. Overall I have learned many techniques which I have
progressed from my preliminary task.
