"Inmytests,applyingtheproductneatonto24hrdrydarkmattepaintviaaPaascheairbrush,I
foundthat:
(1)OnemediumcoatofPMSWwillgloss,thenlaterfadetosemiglosswhendryleavingaa
slighllydimpledfinish.Useofmaskingtapeonthissurfacewilllaterpullthepaintwhentapeis
removed.
(2)Twomediumcoatsallowforasmooth,glossfinishandpaintwillnotpeelwhenremoving
maskingtape.
(3)Onapplyingdecalstothedoublecoatfinish,usingtheMicroSol/Setsystem,movementfor
placingisadequate,yetthedecalswillnotconformproperlytocontoursnorsitcorrectlyin/onetchedor
raisedpanellines.Anyindentationorbumponthesurfaceofthemodelwillseeacreaseradiateout
fromthecenterofthedecalandcurltheedge.Further,anydecalswithalargeamountoftransparent

(Aeromaster)andtheresultswereidentical."

yellowunderlongtermexposuretodirectsunlightandthereisnoclearcoatthatIamawareofthatwill
preventthisoccurrence.

applieddirectlyfromthebottleby
eitherpaintbrushorairbrush(15to
20psi),cleanupwithan
ammoniabasedwindowcleaner
likeWindexorifyouareinthe

oils(suchasyourfingerprint)priortoapplicationotherwisethesecontaminantswillrepeltheFuture
andgiveunsatisfactoryresultsintheend.
Onclearparts,Futureisagoodprotectingagent,includinggivingagoodhedgeagainstthe
'chlorosis'whitesprayeffectthatcyanoacrylategluescancauseonwindowsandsuch.
SomemodelersareusingFutureasanadhesiveforphotoetchedandbrasspartsoreventoattach
canopies.ThebondissomewhattenuousandIthinkI'llstick(littlepunthere)tosupergluemyself.
Futurecanbeusedformakingmudpuddlesorstandingwaterwhendoingadiorama.It'snotas

getthedomedeffectyoudowithepoxy,andFutureisclearer.

situationscoatitwithFutureforareallywetlook.
YoucanaddtalcumpowdertoFuturetomakequickdryingseamfillerthatishard,butsandseasily.

surfaceandyoucanuseapapertowelorqtiptoremoveasmuchasyouwantuntilyougettheeffect
thatyoudesire.
Ifyoudoyourownmoldmakingandresincasting,Futureisagreatclearcoattouseonyour
mastersormoldstoensureacleancasting.Youcaneitherbrushitorsprayiton.Theclayyouuseto
makeyourmastermoldcanbeusedoverandoveragain,astheFuturedoesnotseemtoharmit.
MixalittleSNJpowderwithFutureandhavearockhardglosssilverfinish.Addabout4"blobs"
ofSNJpowdertoa1/2ozjarofFutureandmixwell.Usinglowpressurelike8or10psi,applytwoor
threelightcoats,thelastonealittleheavier.Waitabout45minutesandthenbuffwithsomemoreSNJ
powder.Thiswillcreateaveryconvincingaluminumfinish.Afterdryingovernight,thisproducesa
verydurablefinish.Anotherplustothistechniqueversesusingaseriesoflacquerprimersandlacquer
paintsisthatifyouaredealingwithveryfinepanellinesyoudonotruntheriskofcompromisingthose
lineswithpaintbuildup.ThankstoMichaelS.forexperimentingwiththisprocess.
Futurealsomakesagreatbarriercoatbetweenstyrene
andlacquerbasedpaintthatwouldotherwiseattackthe
plastic.Somemodelersuseitasaprimercoatbefore
applyinglacquerbasedpaintssuchasAlclad.
AcommonproblemreportedwithFutureisacondition
referredtoas"OrangePeel".Iwanttofirsttalkaboutthe

maygetasnakeskineffectintheFuture.Itisimportantthatyourunderlyingcoatsofpaintbefully
curedbeforeapplyingFuture.Itisalsoimperativethethesurfacebecleanofoilsandfingerprints.
BeforecoatingyourmodelwithFutureletitsoakinamilddetergentsolutionandthenrinsewithwarm
water.Letitdrycompletelybeforeproceeding.
WhenusingflatpaintsmoreFutureisrequiredtogettheglossyfinishasaflatsurfaceis,inreality,
notflat.Itisveryroughonamicroscopicleveltobreakuplightreflectioncausingittolookflatandthis
roughnessmustbefilledinbytheFuturecoating.Yourecreatetheflatlookwithafinalcoatofflat
finishafteralldecalsandweatheringhasbeencompleted.
DecalSettingSolutionReactions:Strongdecalsettingsolutions,likeMicroSol,willreactwith
Futurethathasnotcuredfullyandcreateawhitehaze.Donotdispare,thishazewilldisappearwhen

thissameinformationinmind,youcanuseHumbrolmaskingliquidtostripFuturefromselectareasofa
modelwithoutharmingtheunderlyingcoatsofpaint.
WhenusingFutureinanairbrush,tocleanyourbrushallyouneedtodoisshootsomeWindexor
otherammoniabasedwindowcleanerthroughyourairbrush.Iknowthatsomemodelersliketoshoot
straightammoniathroughtheirbrushesbutthiscancausesomeprettystrongodorssimilartoa
barnyard.Idon'tknowaboutyoubutIgotoffthefarmmanyyearsagoanddonotcaretobereminded
oftheolfactoryjoysofmychildhood.
Okay,sowhatifyouarealittlecarelessandgettheFutureonyourhands?Washingwithsoapand
waterwilltakecareofyou.
Onemodelerreportedthathehadfoggingproblemsafterusingsuperglue,hereisanexcerptfrom

forFutureFloorFinishhadbeenchanged.Thisisfalse,theformulahasnot
beenchangedsince1992whenS.C.Johnsonaddedfragrancetotheformula.
