What are the competitive advantages of the EX2200 switches compared to similar platforms?
The EX2200 line of Ethernet switches delivers a level of functionality and performance normally associated with higher cost
solutions, including the following:
10/100/1000BASE-T interfaces at a price point where other vendors offer 10/100BASE-TX
True 24+4 and 48+4 configuration, so users do not have to sacrifice fixed 10/100/1000BASE-T ports for uplinks
Wire-rate performance on all ports
Low power consumption (<2W/port), low-acoustic fans and a small 10-inch-deep footprint enable flexible, environmentally
friendly deployment
Hardware-based access control lists for high-performance implementation and integration of access security, such as Juniper
Networks Unified Access Control (UAC)
Support for IEEE802.3at PoE+
Support for Layer 2 protocols as well as Layer 3 protocols such as RIP and static routing as part of the base license
Ease of deployment with features like USB support and DHCP download of image and configuration files for mass
deployment
Advanced class-of-service features including eight hardware queues as well as policing and shaping
Juniper Networks Junos operating system ensures consistent control plane feature implementation
Modular Junos software prevents a switch reboot if a single protocol feature fails
Does the EX2200 offer 802.3at Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+)?
The EX2200 24- and 48-port PoE EX2200 switches support 802.3af standards-based PoE for powering networked devices such as
telephones, video cameras, and wireless LAN (WLAN) access points in converged networks. The EX2200 PoE switches are also
capable of supporting 802.3at standards-based PoE+ for powering networked devices like multiple radio IEEE 802.11n wireless
access points and video phones that may require more than the 15.4 watts available with IEEE 802.3af.
How do the features of the EX2200 line compare to the EX3200 and EX4200 lines?
The EX2200 is an entry-level Ethernet switch designed for low-density wiring closets and branch office locations. The EX2200 may
be positioned in the majority of these locations where densities are not expected to exceed 48 ports. However, requirements such as
advanced routing protocols (OSPF, IPv6, BGP), DC power supplies, 10GbE uplinks and/or field-replaceable power and fans are best
served by the EX3200 line of Ethernet switches.
The EX4200 line of Ethernet switches should be positioned for locations requiring greater than 48 ports or the highest availability with
redundant power and fans.
Do the EX Series switches meet the federal governments Common Criteria EAL 3 requirements?
The Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation (abbreviated as Common Criteria or CC) is an international
standard (ISO/IEC 15408) for computer security certification. The EX2200 series switches are scheduled for EAL 3 certification with
the Junos 10.4 release.
What are the plans for the EX2200 switches to comply with the Trade Agreement Act (TAA) or the Foreign
Military Financing (FMF) program?
The TAA and FMF regulations require government agencies to purchase products manufactured only in specific countries. TAA- and
FMF-compliant versions of EX2200 are scheduled to be available in Q2, 2010.

What high availability features does the EX2200 have to enable carrier-class reliability?
The EX2200 switches benefit from numerous software features that offer unequalled reliability:
Junos OS:
1. Junos development methodology:
a. Single-tree, single-code train
b. Predictable release schedule
c. New features in new releases only
d. Each release a true superset of previous releases
e. 100 percent regression of automated test with zero failures as bar for release
f. EEOL release with four years of support 4Q each year
2. Junos availability features:
a. Separation of control, forwarding and services
b. Modular OS that allows process independence, isolation and independent graceful restart
