BIT interleaved coded modulation with iterative

detection
INTRODUCTION
Bicm is most popular method for combining binary non binary coding modulation as after
the landmark paper by zehavi who showed the potential in Bit interleaved coded
modulation for effective error free transmission over channel . bit interleaved coded
modulation become standard for achieving large coding gains for bandwidth efficient
transmission over different communication channels

after that proposed iterative

decoding with soft feedback for BICM comes which is used for efficient transmission over
additive white Gaussian noise channels because the drawback of convential bicm over
AWGN by increasing the free euclidean distance with the knowledge of other bit valuse
BICM-ID used in a number of ways for relay channels and nakagami m distribution channels
for efficient and error free transmisson using different codes like convolutional
codes, turbo codes, trellis codes for binary coding schemes to transmit over the channels
and different mapping and modulation schemes like gray mapping and modulation schemes
like 8psk,QAM, and 16 QAM
BICM ID gives exellent coding gain at low SNR as the number of iteration increases the
gain increses.infact BICM-ID improves BICM by 1db gain and provide excellent performance
over both Guassian and fading channels. we can improve our spectrum using different
standards efficient mapping and modulation techniqes and make our transmission efficient
over different channels here we suppose simple moddle to understand basic idea behid
the BICM-ID model

We consider the iteratively coded BICM-IM system depicted in fig 1 the transmitter consists
of interleaved concatenation of a convolutional encoder and a symbol mapper First a block
of Data bits is encoded by a convolutional encoder before being bitwise interleaved by
arandom interleaver the m consecutive bits of the coded and interleaved sequence are
grouped to form subsequence denoted by ck.a modulator maps each subsequence ck to a
complex symbol sk=u(ck) chosen from the M ary signal constellation X where u is the
labeling map and M=2m the M-ary data symbols are transmitted over a channel described
Rk=gk.sk+nk
Where gk is the fading coefficient and 1 for guassian channel and nk is a complex white
gaussian noise with variance N/2 in each real dimension
Now come to the demodulation and decoding process in order to improve the performance
of maximum Likelihood ration(LLR) judgment in ith iteration ,this scheme uses serial
iteirative receiver. In the process of iteration, extrinsic information is transferred among
demodulator ,posteriori probability decoder and soft information combination .In this
scheme demodulation and decoding process are accoplished in one module named
differential demodulator we use M-ary QAM to modulate the encoded information each
transit node uses CSI channel state information M-ary signal vector set is marked as total
no of signals that receiver receves from transit nodes in the ith iteration,Demodulator

calculates extrinsic information Logrithimic

LLRS

of which represents the bit of ith

symbol that receiver receives .

CONCLUSION
In this summary we have analyzed ,evaluated and conducted a study of different
parameters that BICM is very beneficial for transmission over Relay and nakagami-m fading
channels ,AWGN channel and BICM gives higher gain at low SNR.BICM is used in many
communication systems for efficient transmission of bits over noisy channels Through the
combination of BICM and OFDM orthogonal frequency division we can get the full spatial
and frequency diversity offered by the channel[3]
it has been shown that BICM provides a simpler and more efficient means of achieving
diversity gains for high rate application especially when OFDM modulation with clipping is
applied [4].BICM Is also used for cooperative diversities however future work would
include problems such as the power allocation of this scheme[5]
