Introduction
Participants in the course will be divided into different stations for
the practicum. A facilitator will be designed in each station to do
performance checks of required procedure.
It is required to complete all procedural tasks of each station to adequately prepare the oncology nurse in chemotherapy preparation and
administration.
Guidelines
There will be four distinct stations as follows:
Station 1: Use of Infusion Pump in the Administration of
Chemotherapy
Station 2: Preparation of Chemotherapy Drugs for IV Administration
Station 3: Preparation of Access Port for Chemotherapy
Station 4: Dose Computation of Chemotherapy Drugs
Practicum Procedures
1. A facilitator will be assigned at each station.
2. A checklist will be provided to each individual participant. Using this checklist, the facilitator will verify whether the participant is able or not able to perform the procedure.
3. Each participant must complete the requirements of one station
before proceeding to the next station.
4. The facilitator will be responsible for the time check and the
movement to the next station.
5. The activity will be finished when the rotation is complete and
all the participants have gone through all the four stations.
6. For Station 4, the activity will start with a presentation of a
patient scenario to be discussed by the facilitator. Each participant will be required to perform dose computations based on
the patient scenario. The computation must be completed
within the allotted ten minutes.
