Annapurna Base Camp Trekking is one of the fascinating and famous trekking
areas for trekkers in Nepal. With the elevation of 8091m, Annapurna lies in the
Himalayan section in North-central Nepal. The base camp of Annapurna lies in
the altitude of 4130m. This trek provides the experience to see magnificent
panorama and blend of diverse unique cultures. The major highlights of
Annapurna Base Camp are breathtaking sunrise and peak view from Ghorepani
and Poon hill, exploring around typical Gurung village and glance on the culture
and way of life in Ghandruk, natural hot spring at Jhinudanda and amazing
mountains and glacier view from Annapurna Base Camp.
Annapurna Base Camp is surrounded by several striking mountains such as
Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Gangapurna Varahashikhar, Fish Tail known as
Machhapuchhre. We begin our journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara Valley. With
no exaggeration, Pokhara is one of the most stunning cities of Nepal and we
drive from Pokhara to Nayapul which is a picturesque one hour drive. Then, we
walk through the pleasing oak and rhododendron forests, across gleaming
streams and the terraced meadows of crops with the view of different attractive
villages. And, the best season for Annapurna Base Camp is March, May and in
between September to December.

DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 01: WELCOME TO KATHMANDU (1400M.)
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our representative at
the airport and then s/he will transfer you to hotel. You will be briefly
described about your tour and check in to the Hotel. Rest of the day is all
yours and overnight at hotel.
DAY 02: KATHMANDU SIGHTSEEING
Today we will arrange sightseeing program around Kathmandu Valley.
After breakfast, you will visit around Swayambhunath Stupa which is also
known as Monkey Temple and observe beautiful view of Kathmandu
valley. Also, you will have a sightseeing trip to Bauddhanath Stupa, the
second biggest stupa in the world. Pashupatinath temple, famous Hindus
temple is another spot to explore. And, going around Kathmandu Durbar
Square, Patan Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square will be worthy
one since these are renowned places for art and architecture and are
enlisted
in
UNESCO
World
Heritage
List.
DAY 03: KATHMANDU - POKHARA(910M.)
After breakfast, we depart from Kathmandu and driving for 6 hours we
move to Pokhara by tourist bus, or private car or bus depending upon the
size of your group. You will be passing through mesmerizing scenery of
river and countryside. Alternatively, you may fly to Pokhara from
Kathmandu which takes only half an hour. Then, you will sign in to the
Hotel and you have free afternoon on your own. You can go around
lakeside area or you can do boating at Fewa Lake and overnight at hotel.
DAY 04: POKHARA - TIKHEDHUNGA (2482M.)
After breakfast, an hour drive from Pokhara to reach Nayapul (50km.) and
after that begin your trek about 20 minutes to get to Birethati, a well-to-do
town nearby the Modi River. We continue moving to our trek to Hille, then
walk ahead to a big Magar Village called Ulleri. After Ulleri, the track
crosses a stream and mounts. On this day, you will trek about 3 to 4 hours
and overnight you spend at trekkers Lodge.

DAY 05: TIKHEDHUNGA - GHOREPANI (2750M.)


From Tikhedhunga, you start your trek crossing a stream on a
suspension bridge, Bhurungdi Khola. On top of the village where
the track goes up soothingly through grazing land and cultivated
fields, all the way through rhododendron and oak forests. We,
then reach to Nangethanti where you can have lunch or short
rest. Then, we depart to Ghorepani all the way through the forest.
Today, you will trek about 5-6 hrs and overnight at Lodge.
DAY 06: GHOREPANI - POON HILL (3195M.) TADAPANI (2600M.)
We start trekking early in the morning we trek to Poonhill
(3195m.) with the help of your stick and flash light. Here, you can
take pleasure in the scenic peak views and striking sunrise view.
Then after an hour, we trek down to Poon Hill and have breakfast
then continuously trek to Tadapani for 6 hours. Tadapani literally
refer to Far water which means water is supplied in this village
from long distance. The track rises all along ridges and through
pine and rhododendron forests to Deurali. We come down to
reach Banthanti, ahead of walking on the twisting way to
Tadapani. Overnight at trekkers lodge.
DAY 07: TADAPANI CHHOMRONG (2210M.)
The path descends from Tadapani and today we trek to reach
Chhomrong coming across deep and dense rhododendron forest.
From Ghandruk there are fine views of the upper Modi valley. We
walk on the long way up above the west bank of the Modi Khola,
and goes up to the village of Chhomrong (2040m.) We can see
mighty peak of Annapurna South with Fishtail facing it across the
valley towering above the village. Overnight at tea house.
DAY 08: CHHOMRONG - HIMALAYA HOTEL (2680M.)
We walk ahead through the forest to Kuldi Ghar leaving
Chhomrong, sooner than the way goes steeply downward through
a bank of rock and then settle down. We trek through riverside
and bamboo woods along the base of the ravine. Subsequently,
the track winds abruptly up through deep bamboo and
rhododendron forest to the village of Doban. We set camp above
Himalaya Hotel (2680m.). Tonight trekkers lodge.

DAY 09: ANNAPURNA SOUTH GLACIER BASIN


Today, our track stays behind the west bank of the Modi River
which is now flowing through a broader valley, and ultimately
emerges into the Sanctuary. Walking straight ahead, we will see
towering lateral moraine of the South Annapurna glacier and the
Modi River follow a deep rock face to the right. We arrive at
Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3480m.) from which we can witness
an amazing vista of mountains. We either set our camp here or go
on walking up to North West, staying over the glacial moraine.
DAY 10: ANNAPURNA SOUTH BASE CAMP VISIT DOVAN (2580M.)
From Annapurna South glacier, our path today begins on a wide
grassy lane, prior to hiking over sideways moraine and downward
to the stunning valley. We shortly arrive at the British Expedition
Annapurna South Face Base Camp (4234m.) The paramount views
are witnessed from the peak of the moraine which we tag on until
it is moves through by the glacier curving down from Himal Chuli
to the north. Moving further down, we follow the same path to an
enjoyable camp spot at Dovan, which is located on the boundary
of the Sanctuary. Overnight in Tea house.
DAY 11: DOVAN - JHINU DADA (1760M.)
As we depart from Dovan, the trail passes the small community of
Khuldi Bikas, prior to moving through the rhododendron and
bamboo fields to the alpine-style village. It takes around 5 hours
to reach to Jhinu Dada and here, we can enjoy the hot spring.
Overnight at Trekkers Lodge.
DAY 12: JHINU DADA POTHANA (1900M.)
From Jhinu Dada We have an easy descent. We trek for 5 hours to
reach to the Gurung village of Landrung. Then after, the trail
comes across a pass before arriving at the small settlement of
Pothana hanging high on a ridge. Tonight at lodge.
DAY 13: POTHANA POKHARA
We today have a two hours descending path to Phedi from
Pothana, and we come back to Pokhara with an hour long drive.
This is the final day of your Annapurna Base Camp Trek. Overnight
at hotel in Pokhara.

DAY 14: POKHARA KATHMANDU


We take the bus or fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu after having
our breakfast. The rest of the day is all yours; you can go around
the valley. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.
DAY 15: DEPARTURE
Today is the last day of your stay in Nepal. Our airport
representative will transfer you to Airport

CLOTHING AND EQUIPMENTS


Certain basic trekking equipment is essential on all routes we described in
this site. Depending on the area and season, we will provide you with a
comprehensive list of necessities. Here is some recommended Equipments
List for trekking in Nepal.

CLOTHING
1. BOOTS
Lightweight walking boots. If new one is being bought, walk then in to
avoid blisters. Also bring spare laces.

2. TRACK SHOES
A pair of track shoes. To wear in the camp at night or when the boot is
wet.

3. JACKET
Warm jacket. Fiber fills or down should be adequate. This is especially
necessary during winter from December to February. A rainproof jacket
with hood or a poncho. Get the one that is guaranteed waterproof.

4. SHIRT AND SWEATERS


Woolen shirts and thick sweaters. During winter months, December
through February these items are essential. Thick sweaters can be
purchased in Kathmandu. 1 lightweight long sleeved -shirt is particularly
suitable for avoiding sun burn.

5. TROUSERS
A pair of lightweight/ heavy weight trousers. Jeans are unsuitable to wear
on treks. Cheap loose cotton pants are available in Kathmandu.
Heavyweight trousers are useful higher up in the mountains in the

morning and at night. Windproof/ waterproof trousers are necessary on all


treks going above 10.00ft.

6. UNDERWEAR
Thermal underwear. These are excellent to sleep in at night in the winter
months thermal underwear are quite invaluable.

7. TRACKSUIT
A tracksuit useful for wearing in camp and in the tent. 2 pair of loose
fitting long shorts/ skirts.

8. SLEEPING BAG
As you do not carry it yourself this may be synthetic or down, but it must
be 4 season. As most treks pass through a variety of climatic conditions, a
long zip is a good idea. A cotton/fleece liner helps keep your sleeping bag
clean. Good sleeping bags are expensive but can be rented easily in
Kathmandu (Only for treks starting and finishing there)

9. SUN HAT, SUNCREAM/BLOCK & LIP SALVE


Choose a high factor suncream (Factor 20 or stronger) to protect your skin
against the sun at high altitude. A combination sunblock/lip salve is ideal
for facial protection.

10. PERSONAL FIRST AID KIT


You should have your own supply of plasters, aspirin, diarrhea tablets and
also a comprehensive blister kit. (Please do not give medicines to local
people without consulting the trek leader.)

11. HAT/ GLOVE/ SANDLE/ SHOCKS/ UNDERWEAR


a) A woolen hat to wear in the morning and at night. During winter it is an
essential item.
b) A sunhat and ensure it has a wide brim to cover the face and neck.
b) A pair of gloves. Leather with lining and woolen are best. c) 1 pair of
sandals to wear in the cities and in camp.
d) 4 pairs of thin and 4 pair of thick woolen socks.
e) Underwear normal quantity and swimming costume, hankies.

a) Duffle bag or kit bag to carry to gear while trekking

b) Daypack: This is a small rucksack to carry personal requirement for the


day e.g. toilet items, camera, film towel, soap, a boot etc.
c) Water bottle.
d) Snow glasses and sunglasses
e) 2-4 large plastic bags to separate clean clothes from dirty ones.
f) 6 -10 smaller plastic bags to dispose garbage.
g) Wallet and /or money belt with compartment for coins.
h) Toiletries with large and small towels. Toilet paper can buy in
Kathmandu and some villages in the mountains.
i) Small headlamp and/ or torch with spare batteries and bulbs
j) candles and lighter to burn toilet paper.
k) Snow gaiters essential during wither and all treks going over at other
times.
l) An umbrella (optional), which is quite useful to as a sunshade and useful
when it rains.
m) Reading materials, camera and film, game items (optional), note book,
rubber band, pen and pencil, envelopes, a diary, a calendar, a pocket
knife, binoculars (optional), a small pillow or headrest (optional).
Thermoses (optional)- an inflatable sleeping mat, trekking map, adequate
