A sample of the Head Boy/Girl Speeches March 2012

Charlotte Jones
Firstly, I would like to become Head Girl as I feel I have the ability.
If I was to become Head Girl it would be a great personal achievement for myself.
I would love to become Head Girl as I feel I could contribute towards College in a positive way.
If I was to become Head Girl I know I would put the effort into talking to you, whether it is through sport activities,
lessons or just around school.
I would hope you would feel free to come to me and tell me your opinions and I would like to put them forward
and a make a difference.
Sport is a big part of my life and I would like to make it a bigger part in college life.
For that reason I would enjoy being Head Girl even more if I was to be able to cover a large amount of your
viewpoints and get you involved even more.
I would also like to become Head Girl for myself so I can put forward some ideas of my own and have a bigger
role in college.

Emma Moore
Hello my name is Emma Moore and I would like to be your Head Girl. I would like to lead you into your last year
and help you and the whole school to work together to be the best you can be. I think I would fit this role as I am
responsible, trustworthy and respectful. I have represented the school for many things such as playing rugby and
netball. I have an older brother and younger sister so I know a range of people in different years. I would relish the
opportunity to work with teachers and students to make a difference... and I will leave you with this.
Rebecca Capewell
Over my time at Bishop Perowne I have taken part in many college activities and events, including attending
regular community parliament meetings. Overall I have got a lot out of college life. Now is my chance to give
something back.
I have always prided myself as a hard-working and trustworthy individual, who is willing to have a go at anything
given the chance and give all when doing so. I am also a good listener a trait I think a Head Girl needs to have to
be effective. I am able to take others thoughts into account and respect their opinions, to help make our college
a better place to work in.

Many people see Head Girl as a role of great power over others, this is not my view, I see Head Girl as a role of
great responsibility to help people get involved more in college and get peoples views heard and spoken to the
wider community.
Voting for me is voting for confidence, more involvements and good role model for the school.
Abigail Whitehouse
The reasons I want to be Head Girl is to give something back to the school, where we have made some good
friends, and some not so good friends, whilst learning a lot on the way.
Although I am not the most outgoing person, I am friendly and a good listener. Therefore, as Head Girl, I hope
that any of you will feel able to speak to me about any aspect of school or any ideas you might have to improve
the college.
Whilst Im not a fairy godmother, who can grant all your wishes, I would try my best to help you.
I feel that I can be a good influence on what happens in the college, rather than just watching from the sidelines.
Finally, if I was Head Girl, I would find different ways to encourage as many of you guys and the younger students
to become more involved in making you and the college, the best we can be.
Beth Fuller
My name is Beth but that you probably know. Three reasons for Head Girl to you Im going to show.
A challenge and team work both these I do enjoy and I see this as essential to be Head Girl or Boy.
To pay back something to College is reason number two. To serve both pupils and staff is a thing Id like to do.
Now if Im truly honest I really am quite shy, so to step outside my comfort zone is something Id like to try.
Ive benefitted greatly from all that Ive learnt here, I sincerely hope that my reasons have been made very clear.
Thank you all for listening to my effort of a rhyme.
Id like to say a whole lot more but now Im out of time.
Laura-Beth Hardwick
Hi Im Laura-Beth.
So I have one minute. I could promise you the world, like many candidates would, but youre too smart for that. So
Ill tell it to you straight. Why I would like to serve as Head Girl.
I believe our college is like a tree; we are all different parts of this tree, for example The teachers are like the
roots, which supplement us with knowledge and help us to grow. If I was Head Girl, I would be like the manure
which the gardener spreads to enrich the ground, just that little added extra can make a big difference.
I realise that, being Head Girl isnt about being better than anyone else. Its about having the trust of the student
body to organise and represent them with honesty and enthusiasm, whenever called upon.

I have the compassion to listen, the ability to always work hard, yet have a good sense of humour.
So dont vote for me just because of my good looks and charming demeanour, although you might be tempted to
do that. Vote for me because you have excellent taste and superb decision making skills!
Jade Meakin
I would like to be Head Girl of Bishop Perowne because I would like to help inspire others to work together to
make this school a great place to be, for everyone.
My motivator in this school has been Mr Walsh.
From day one he has made me aspire to be better, try harder and try to achieve the impossible. He even helped
me pass my maths GCSE a year early.
In my absence, I have had to try and do this for myself and Ive learned, its far easier to help each other and work
together, than it is to do it by yourself.
If we inspire each other, listen to each other and work together we can develop good relationships and increase
our chances of success in all aspects of college, as well as academically.
I am easy to talk to and very approachable and if I am made Head Girl I will strive to use my excellent
communication skills to get everyone involved and inspired, to help make life at school better for us all.
So please vote for me!
Jack Downing
Hello and welcome to todays sixth contestant on the Head Boy factor. Please give a warm welcome to Jack
Downing. Now, there are many reasons why I wish to become Head Boy, but due to time limitations I shall only
name a few. Firstly, I want to give something back to our school. Bishop Perowne has provided me with many
opportunities, so now I want to provide new creative activities for you. This links into my second reason. Giving
you a voice. I believe it is very important for you to have a say in how the school is run: so it can be tailored to
each and every one of you. With your help, and my excellent communication skills, I hope to make year eleven
perfect for all of us!
It is now up to you to decide my fate. Do I leave early or do I go through to the next round at Ms Farrs Barbados
Villa. I have been Jack Downing; Im not too sure about Ms Farrs villa but thanks for listening and please vote for
me.
Jonathan Tayler
Good morning everyone. My name is Jonathan Tayler and today I would like to say why I would like to serve you
all as Head Boy of our school.
Over the past four years Ive got to know a lot of you, and made some very good friends. Ive had some great
times playing sport and doing shows for the school. And, over this period Ive seen us grow, and hopefully,
become a bit more mature.

If I was chosen as Head Boy, I would want to represent you, as well as inspire you. Im friendly and approachable,
so if anything is troubling you about school life, or if you have a really good idea, you wont need to keep it to
yourself. I want the students voice, thats your voice, heard at Bishop Perowne.
I know being Head Boy is a big responsibility. If given the opportunity, I would take that responsibility seriously,
and be a respectable role model for all of you. I would want to be seen as a team leader, and encourage all of us
to be the best that we can be.
Thank you.
Connor Sheridan
Hello, I am Connor Sheridan and I would like to be Head Boy.
So, why would I be a good Head Boy? Well to start with I am very reliable and I am hardworking. I am extremely
punctual and I am very easy to approach, so you dont need to think twice about asking me a question or
suggesting an idea. If I were to be Head Boy I would lead by example. I also consider myself to be very confident.
If I were to become Head Boy I would like to make sports a bigger part of school life, for those of us who enjoy a
wide range of sports. This might involve finding local companies to sponsor new kits, especially for a football kit. I
would like to make the link between the council and students stronger, so the voice of the pupils can be heard.
Thank you for listening.
Joseph Ingles
Good morning everyone. My name is Joseph Ingles. As some of you may know, I like to do a bit of cooking and
so in my mind the role of Head Boy is a lot like a Victoria sponge cake.
I can see that some of you are looking a bit confused so I will explain:A Victoria sponge cake deconstructed is just a few simple ingredients but when put together can be so much
more, and that is how I see myself as Head Boy.
Firstly you have the flour a strong dependable ingredient that forms a durable foundation. Its determination will
eventually see the product rise to new heights.
Next you have the sugar, a quirky ingredient; it is original, exciting and also innovative.
Next comes the butter, now butter is an honest ingredient, it knows it is big on calories but doesnt try to hide it.
This honesty is essential when you have a role of great responsibility.
Last are the eggs the binding of all these essential attributes together in the form of a great Head Boy.
As you can see (pointing at a PowerPoint presentation) we now have, not the recipe for a Victoria sponge, but the
attributes that I feel I could bring to the role of your Head Boy.
Thank you
Jack Dennehy

I want to be a Head Boy because I think I have the strengths and personality to take on this responsible and
challenging role. I would take hands on approach to the job and my listening and communication skills would help
me considerably to take into account all of the students views and opinions.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my 4 years so far at Bishop Perowne College and have enjoyed taking an active role
helping with the open evenings working with teachers and staff.
I feel I am enthusiastic, energetic and have good leadership and communication skills. I also have an excellent
sense of humour which always helps.
I understand the role of Head Boy would be a challenging role but I would look forward to those challenges with
energy and a level head. The role of Head Boy would also benefit me in learning a whole range of new skills in
office. This would be an exciting opportunity for me and I hope I get the role. Thank you all for listening (take a
bow).
Cameron Brett
Hello. I have been at this school for the same period of time as you, nearly 4 full academic years now, and I have
seen Leadership teams old and new, go by as I have been learning through this school. It has seemed a job to
admire, as whoever gets into the Leadership team gets a proper say in how things are run. I have seen problems
occur in school, and I have seen problems disappear thanks to the Leadership team. This is the reason I want to
be Head Boy.
I want to have the power where I can physically make a difference in how things are run. I want to be behind the
scenes, and see how things are organised, and also be involved in this. I want to improve the qualities and skills I
possess at the moment, and become a better person overall.
But, theres one more thing: I want to get the best out of all of you. I have seen happiness and sadness over my 4
years, and I want to change the negatives into positives. I want to leave the school in a years time, knowing that I
have done something to change this school for the better. If I can do that, then I will be happy. Thank you for
listening, and please vote me for Head Boy.
