Fund Objective & Strategy

When this fund hit a roadblock in 2007, questions abounded as to the

end of its lucky streak. In 2007, the fund returned 39.44 per cent while
the best performer in this category delivered 112 per cent! The only year
it has ever underperformed its benchmark. But since then the fund has
delivered top quartile annual performances.
The fund tends to take a top-down approach before going for potentially
outperforming stocks. But in this strategy, it could well deviate from the
current market position. With no bias towards any market cap, this fund
is a great multi-cap offering with a long history of impressive performance.
The rising asset base is testimony to this fact. Kulkarni has managed it
smartly by increasing the number of holdings. As on January 2012, the
number of stocks in the portfolio stood at 63.

The scheme seeks capital

appreciation with at least 80
per cent exposure to equities,
FCDs, preference shares and
bonds of companies.

Aggregate measures regarding

the funds investments. The market capitalisation, P/B ratio and
P/E ratio are weighted averages
of the latest numbers of the companies that the fund is invested
in. Three Year Earnings Growth
is the weighted average of the
compounded average growth in
the net profits of each company.

A nine-cell matrix of the overall style

of investment that the fund follows,
based on its latest portfolio. On the
vertical axis, the three steps denote
the weighted average market capitalisation of the funds investments. The
horizontal axis denotes, on a weighted average basis, whether the companies that the fund has invested in
are value stocks, growth stocks, or a
blend of the two.
