When I was in 9th Grade, we had organised a Fair at the school. The objective of the fair was
to innovate a product, sell and earn profits which would then be given away to an NGO. I led
my team, which comprised of 12 of us. We strategized plans and after brain storming for
over two days cane up with the idea of putting up a stall that sold Sandwiches and
lemonade. The idea was to cook a food item, that was instantaneous, could be modified to
suit the customers palate, thus providing customer satisfaction. I negotiated with the
suppliers as such that in case the raw materials were not used, they would be returned thus
minimising our losses if any. In the end, our business model worked and was a success.
There were last minute glitches like a customer returning a sandwich because he found it
too spicy and something like they had asked for Cheese Sandwich and the one made was full
of cheese. In these cases, we promptly gave them a sandwich as per their choice as
customer satisfaction was most important to us. Minimal wastage was top most on our
agenda. Managing the team was easy until the fair started. However once people started
coming in placing orders, cancelling some, adding to earlier orders all set routines went for a
toss. Impromptu decision helped the team to excel and I owe it to the deep understanding
between the team. Preparing a budget for the project, gathering funds, fixing a price for
different sandwiches as per the cost incurred was my responsibility. I am proud to say that
we earned a substantial margin for our efforts. Thus, I have proved myself to be innovative
and lead projects to success.

Sample 2
I have an inquisitive and independent mind and take my own decisions. This trait helped me
to be the school Prefect at my school. I was member of the Consumer Council where we
helped create awareness for consumers rights. It gave me insights into the consumer
psyche. The decision to develop a career in Business has also solely been mine. I often
participate in various Businesses and Management based Quiz shows, which throws light on
different aspects of a business. By nature, I am an extrovert. Because of my organisational
skills, I have often been responsible for some successful events in the neighborhood. For
instance, I have helped organise the Republic Day Parade and looked after catering and
budgeting for this event. I believe my leadership skills along with my team building abilities
and my above experiences will set me apart from most of my other classmates at your
University.
An atmosphere as eclectic as your campus where I get to meet students from diverse
backgrounds is a rich ground for me to expand my knowledge about people living in
different parts of the globe, understand their lifestyles, their needs and their culture. This
will play a significant part when I would start to build business models for the companies I
work for or for my own company.
Sample 3
I was inspired to pursue a career in management from a young age, witnessing the business
activities of my father. He is an entrepreneur in the electronics industry who is very
business-minded and dedicated to his work. As a child, I began to absorb many ideas and
concepts related to business and management. After school, I often read books and
periodicals such as Business Week and Forbes, and it was clear even at that young age that

I would work in business in the future. My decision to pursue a masters degree is due to the
fact that I recognize that my father is limited by his qualifications; he only earned a high
school degree, relying on his own diligence and perseverance to succeed. I hope to be able
to assist him and his company in the near future, and the professional management skills I
learn in your institution will allow me to achieve this goal.
Sample 4
I earned my Bachelors degree in Medical Sociology from Good University, where I attended
many management-related courses, including Computer Science and Information
Management, Introduction to Management, International Relations, and Mass
Communication. During my four years of training, I had a positive attitude and developed
good relationships with both classmates and teachers. Perhaps most importantly, during my
time in the university I cultivated the patience necessary to deal with people in need. For
instance, in the course Social Casework, I was involved in many cases which required
considerable talking and communication skills. Because of this, I grew patient and tolerant in
demanding and frustrating situations. Apart from working to help people in need, we also
had opportunities for self-reflection and growth, such as when we had disagreements with
those with whom we lived. In these situations, it was important that I have patience and
communicate clearly to mediate and resolve conflicts. My work has provided me with
valuable knowledge and experience that will be of great use in my future managementrelated work, where such communication skills are vital to success.
Sample 4
In the near future, with the guidance of the experienced and learned professor institute, I
will have thoroughly cultivated my independent thinking and research capabilities. I
eventually plan to work as a professional manager in an international context, and I am
convinced that I will be able to engage in enlightening research and acquire a more profound
academic foundation.
Sample 5
While the study of and research in management is my prime objective today, my interests in
literature, music, travel and nature help me maintain a sense of perspective in life. I like to
write and have had some articles published in Indian newspapers. I have organized and
participated in a number of extra-curricular activities during my college days and have won
university and national level prizes in debating, writing and quizzes. I also believe that each
of us must give something back to society - to this end, I have worked on a voluntary basis
for the Hunger Project for a year; as a teacher and counselor to physically and mentally
handicapped children for three years; and as a reader to blind students.
Sample 6
What defines me is my motivation towards accomplishment, which has enabled me to
dramatically outgrow my stiff hurdles and reach the pinnacle of professional excellence from
a modest rural background.
Sample 7

Quintessentially, I had to weather through the bondage of paternalistic rural India mindset,
where women are not encouraged for higher education, or for that matter even school
education. Even today, the birth of a girl child is treated with contempt. The girl to boy ratio
in the federal state of Punjab is as low as 774:1000. The nearest school was 6 km away from
my village. Education especially that of a girl was never encouraged.
I had in my childhood itself decided to break free from this traditional mould. I studied hard
and secured admission in a good engineering college. I then braved the emotional blackmail
of my family, who never wanted me to stay in a hostel. I became an engineer and started
earning. My intermittent visits to my village when I was doing extremely well on the career
front, inspired many girls and opened up before the village community the virtues of
education.
Thus I emerged as a role model in the village, and numerous others started following my
footsteps who would have otherwise remained uneducated, carrying on the family chores in
their post-marital lives. Today my village boasts of a number of medical, law and engineering
girl students. The whole village has started taking the education more seriously and looks
forwards to me for advice.
While I would not like to take complete credit for the same since the wheels of change had
already started in Modern India, someone in the female community needed to take the
plunge took that plunge and then assisted others around me in doing so.
