The Groasis waterboxx is an 'intelligent water collection device' that produces and
captures water from the air through condensation and rain. Condensation is caused by
artificial stimulation and the water is captured through physical capacities, without using
energy.

Using the Groasis Waterboxx makes it possible to plant trees or bushes on rocks, on
mountains, in gardens, in ashes of recently burned woods, eroded areas or deserts or any
other place, without the help of irrigation. In moderate climates the Groasis waterboxx
causes 15 to 30% faster growth. It offers the possibility to make more money with trees or
bushes by producing food, fruit, nuts, timber, extracts, medicines, oils and many other
economically interesting products. Besides that, it allows for low cost carbon abatement
for projects under CDM or VCS.
How the Groasis waterboxx works:
The Groasis waterboxx is a copy of Mother Nature. Mother Nature doesn't plant but sows
seeds through birds or grazing animals, on top of the soil. The manure functions as a cover
so that a capillary (humidity) column develops. The seed germinates and roots seek the
capillary column. Once water is found, the leaves develop and evaporation and
photosynthesis can start. This technique has worked for billions of years, trees grow even
in the Rocky Mountains, the Alps and rocky soils. Growing trees on rocks or deserts is not
a problem. - Bringing the tree through the Planting and germinating period until it gets its
water from the capillary - is the problem. The Groasis waterboxx solves this problem. It is a
planting concept.
Proven technology
The Mohammed I University of Oujda in Morocco has tested the Groasis waterboxx for 3
years on a small scale in the Sahara desert, with convincing results. Trees that were
planted with the Groasis waterboxx survived well. The trees planted were measured and
showed an average growth of more than 90% in length within one year. The trees planted
without the Groasis waterboxx were watered weekly but 90% of the trees died.

Tests in Morocco and in other areas like Zaragossa-Spain have shown that the trees, after
the Groasis waterboxx is removed, successfully survive.

Research in 2010:
During 2010 research projects on a wider scale will be organized. Each participant will
plant 1 hectare (2,5 acres) with approximately 500 waterboxxes and 1 hectare as a test
group without the waterboxx. The experiments will be done on a worldwide scale:
Spain -6 Provinces and one slow-growing farmer together with the University of
Valladolid. Total area app. 10 hectares (25 acres)
East Morocco- 1 Project with the University Mohammed 1 of Oujda. Total area app. 2
hectares (5 acres)
West Morocco -1 Project with the Institute Agronomique et Vtrinaire Hassan II in
Agadir. Total area app. 2 hectares (5 acres)
Kenya, Chile and Egypt -Other projects in total 20 hectares (50 acres) are in the
stage of negotiations and will be announced soon
United States-Projects in California are being planned for vineyards and desert
areas
Materials:
The Groasis waterboxx is produced in re-usable polypropylene or as a one-time
biodegradable biopolymer model.
Science Award
In November 2008 the Groasis waterboxx was rewarded the Dutch Bta Dragons Science
Award of 2008. This competition is organized in cooperation with the Dutch Ministry of
Economic Affairs. The potential of the Groasis waterboxx as a solution for ecological,
climate and poverty issues was highly considered in presenting this award.

Conclusions
The Groasis waterboxx does not require maintenance and, 1) allows trees to be grown in
arid or eroded areas 2) improves results of planting trees in moderate areas 3) causes a 15
to 30% higher production and 4) reduces the capital cost and increases the profit of
planting trees or bushes significantly.
