SELECTING AND BALANCING

A.

Provide fans capable of accommodating static pressure variations of plus

10%.

B.

Statically and dynamically balance fans to eliminate vibration or noise

transmission to occupied areas of the building.

C.

Provide belt guards on belt-driven fans.

D.

Unless noted otherwise, TEFC type with Class F insulation. Motors less
than 0.35 kW (1/2 HP shall be single phase, 127 volt. Motors 0.35 kW (1/2
HP) and higher shall be 3 phase, 220 volt.

PAINTING
Factory prime coat fan wheels and housing inside and outside. Prime coating on
aluminum parts is not required.
ROOF MOUNTED EXHAUST FANS

A.

Housing shall contain fan, motor and disconnect switch; fan shall be of the
centrifugal type with a low silhouette housing constructed of minimum 0.457 mm
thick spun aluminum with stainless steel fasteners and neoprene gasketed
aluminum curb cap. Provide built-in vibration isolators for quiet operation, vinyl
coated steel or aluminum bird guard over fan discharge area, and full size hinged
base with latch to provide access to backdraft damper from roof. Equip base
with retaining chain to prevent housing from resting on roof in open position.

B.

Fan shall be non-overloading, statically and dynamically balanced, all aluminum

wheel and hub centrifugal exhauster; fan speeds and capacities as shown on the
drawings.

C.

Motor shall be permanently lubricated ball bearing drive; mounted in

compartment isolated from exhaust air stream; factory prewired from motor to
disconnect switch inside housing. Disconnect switch shall have minimum 1
meter long pigtail for connection to power source and wire shall be multiconductor (grounding type) neoprene covered flexible cable. Motor kW shall be
as shown on the drawings, with characteristics and accessories specified.

D.

Drive shall be direct or V-belt type with heavy duty cast iron adjustable pulleys,
and automatic spring loaded belt tightener to maintain constant air delivery and
fan rpm.

E.

2.5

Backdraft dampers shall be spring loaded multi-leaf type, with minimum 1.3 mm
thick aluminum, felt edged blades secured to cadmium plated steel shaft set in
oilite bearings. Provide blade tiebars. Maximum blade width shall be 150 mm.
Frame shall be extruded aluminum or steel channel with rust inhibitor coating.
PROPELLER FANS WALL MOUNTED

A.

Provide fans as shown on IFC drawings. The fan shall be direct driven,
mounted on fabricated wooden frame.

B.

Fan blades shall be constructed of rigid plastic. Fan shall be quiet in

operation and fan blades and hub shall be statically and dynamically
balanced at the factory.

C.

Shafts shall be of steel, accurately ground and shall be of ample size

for the loads transmitted, and shall not pass through a critical speed
through the full range of speed shown for the fan.

D. Motors shall be of a standard type that is easily replaceable and may

be either sleeve or ball bearing type. Maximum RPM of the motor shall
be 1750 RPM.
E.

The inlet side of the fan shall be provided with a wire guard which
completely surrounds the fan blades. Openings in guard shall not
exceed 10 mm. Provide gravity shutters.

F. The fan shall be controlled as shown on the electrical drawings.

Floor mounted units shall be securely mounted with cadmium plated

hardware on anti-vibration insulators. Provide all supporting steel,
mounting curbs, anchors, etc. required to properly support the unit.

2.

Suspended units shall be independently suspended from building

structure using vibration isolators.

3.

Rigidly anchor roof mounted units to roof curbs using cadmium plated or
stainless steel hardware.
