Power System

There are two main system that need high capacity power source, hoisting and
circulating system. The power nedded for rig activities is up to 3000 hp and we
found that enormous power from prime mover and secondary mover.

Prime Mover
Prime mover is a primary power which supply energy to fullfil power needed for
rig activities. The prime mover in our power system use internal combustion with
diesel engine.

Secondary Mover
Secondary mover is a power source which proveded for housing complex. The
secondary mover in our rig use renewable energy such as solar cell.
Solar Cell
The most commonly used solar panels have efficiencies ranging from 11%-14%
and produce about 10-13 watts per sq-ft. For certainly cross section we can find
out the total energy that absorbed. Cross section which we use is the roof of
housing with xxx sq-ft (mm ft X nn ft), so the total energy that we can get is 12
watts per sq-ft x pp sq-ft = xxxxx wats = xxxx J/s.
Wave Energy
A more innovative power source for low to moderate offshore loads is renewable
energy based technologies such as solar panels or small wind turbines. However
solar and wind power bring their own issues such as intermittent availability. The
advantages of another renewable option, power from ocean waves. When
provided by a rugged, ocean-ready structure such as the PowerBuoy from Ocean
Power Technologies (OPT), wave power can offer a reliable power source at lower
operating costs. Due to careful marine engineering and a power conversion
system design that includes energy storage capability (battery), the PowerBuoy
can deliver a steady and sustainable power supply which is suited to a number of
Oil and Gas applications which will be identified and detailed here There are
many different technologies to capture wave power but very few of these
technologies is commercial enough to be fully used. One of them is PowerBuoy, a
technology which consists of a float, spar, and heave plate as shown in the figure
below. The float moves up and down the spar in response to the motion of the
waves. The heave plate maintains the spar in a relatively stationary position. The
relative motion of the float with respect to the spar drives a mechanical system
contained in the spar that converts the linear motion of the float into a rotary
one. The rotary motion drives electrical generators that produce electricity for
the payload or for export to nearby marine applications using a submarine
electrical cable. This high performance wave energy conversion system
generates power even in moderate wave environments.
The PowerBuoys power conversion and control systems provide continuous
power for these applications under the most challenging marine conditions. The
spar contains space for additional battery capacity if required to ensure power is
provided to a given application even under extended no wave conditions.

Transmission System
We choose AC to DC Power System because their capabilities and advantage

AC generator are powerfull for their size, can provide energy up 3000 hp.
AC is easier to distribute than DC.
DC motors produce High Torque at Low RPM.
Speed of DC motor can be controlled accuratelly.
Prevent noise from the engine as if we use mechanical transmission
system.

Hoisting System
The main function of the hoisting system is to provide facilities in the lift, hold
and put down the drillstring, casing string and other subsurface equipment from
downhole to the surface of the well and vice versa. There are two types of
routines that use the equipment hoisting system during drilling operations, that
is
1. Making Connection.
2. Tripping out and tripping in
To do that the hoisting system consist several main components , are:
1. Derrick and substructure
The function of the derrick is to provide vertical height space that is
required to revoke the pipe from or lowered into the well. There are
several types of Derrick, the type of derrick that we choose for our rig
design is DUAL RAM RIG. Basically, the RAM RIG use hydraulic piston
and rams to replace drawwork and drilling line. And it provides dual rig
functionality at a lower total operational cost than a comparable
conventional dual rig solution.
The Ram Rig, hydraulics is found to have many technical advantages
compared to a conventional drilling concept, such as
a. Available with single, double, triple and quadruple stand rigs with
capacities from 150 to 2,000 tons

b. Vertical racking capacity for 10,100 ft drilling riser in 110 ft stands and
60,000 ft drill pipe in quad stands
c. NOV Dual Activity Cylinder Rig with 2 x 1,400st hoisting capacity / 2x
1.250sT Top drives
d. 12,000 ft water depth capacity
e. 60,000 ft drilling depth capacity
f.

No drawworks, considerably increased braking capacity and minimal

risk of dropping the BOP/riser

g. Lower center of gravity increases variable deck load capacity

h. High operational redundancy
i.

No power consumption when in passive compensation

j.

Low noise emission

The derrick size and general dimension that we use is based from API
standard and the spesification is summarized in the table.

A: The Vertical Distance from the top of the base plate to the bottom of
the crown block support beam.

B: The Distance between heel to heel of adjacent legs.

C: The Window opening measured in the clear and parallel to the center
line of the derrick side from top of base plate.

D: The smallest clear dimension at the top of the derrick that would
restrict passage of crown block.

E: The clearance between the horizontal header of the gin pole and the
top of the crown support beam
