Usability Test For Nascar.com
Test Preparation
Choosing Participants

Tester 1: Sara Vega

Sara is a student at Northwest Missouri State University. She is

female and nineteen years old. Her days consist of classes, homework,
and playing games on her phone. She has never visited Nascars
website before the time of the analysis and does not follow Nascar
racing. Sara averaged her hours per week spent on the internet in total
to about thirty five hours, eighty percent of this time is spent on social
media sites and twenty percent spent on browsing sites. Sara is my low
experience tester because she spends more time on mobile sites than
on desktop sites and is less familiar with the layout and shortcuts of
desktop platform websites. Saras favorite websites to use are
Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Netflix. From this we can easily tell she
is a heavy social media user and is probably not as familiar with the
layout of a browsing site as she is with a social media site.

Usability Analysis

Location of Test: The first usability test was conducted in Saras

college dorm room. This location was chosen because this is where she
does most of her web browsing while she stays on campus. It is an
environment she feels comfortable in and can perform to the best of
her abilities without the intimidation of a foreign environment.
Physical Environment: Sara has a spacious dorm room in Roberta
Hall of Northwest Missouri States campus. She shares her room with
one other occupant. The lighting is dim; the sunlight through the open
window is minimal because of the orientation of her room in the
building. Her suitemates in the next room can be heard through the
shared bathroom occasionally but not obnoxiously.
Technical Environment: Sara is using her school issued computer.
This computer is a PC Hewlett and Packard. The web browser she is
using is Internet explorer. Her screen resolution is the recommended
according to her specific computer type- 1366x768. She is also using a
Wi-Fi connection.

Tester 2: Alyssa Steen

Alyssa is a senior student at Northwest Missouri State University.

Alyssa is a twenty one year old female. She spends her days at classes,
work, and in the television studio. This person is a reasonable tester
because she uses Internet browsing sites very often for her field of
study and is familiar with easily navigating a web page. She is my high
experience user because of these facts. Similar to the first tester,

Usability Analysis

Alyssa has never visited Nascar and does not follow the sport. Alyssa
spends an average of at least twenty hours a week on websites
depending on her workload. Out of this time, she spends about seventy
percent of her time on social media sites and the other thirty percent
on browsing sites. Alyssas favorite sites to use are Buzzfeed, Netflix,
and HBO Go. Compared to the first tester, Alyssa is more likely to be
familiar with browsing websites based off of her favorite websites to
use on a daily basis.

Environment for Tester 2

Location of Test: The second usability test was conducted inside

Alyssas college dorm room. This location was chosen because this is
where she does most of her web browsing and is comfortable in this
location and can perform to the best of her abilities when browsing the
website.
Physical Environment: Compared to the first location this one is
smaller and more cramped and cluttered. Unlike the first room,
Alyssas room does not have a shared bathroom and eliminates the
additional sound compared to the first testing location.
Technical Environment: Alyssa is using the same laptop as the
first tester, her PC Hewlett and Packard. Once again this laptop is the
one provided by Northwest Missouri State University. Her screen
resolution is also the same 1366x768. The browser Alyssa uses is
Google Chrome and she is using her Wi-Fi connection.
