Step 1: Body dimensions

Mark the size of the fashion figure. If you are going to draw it on the whole sheet, leave just a little bit
of space from both the top and bottom end.
Pull a vertical body Centerline and find its middle.

Step 2: Legs/torso
To set the length needed for the legs and the torso divide the upper half of body Centerline in 3 even
parts. Mark the middle of the 3rd part. This is where the pelvis of your fashion figure should be.

Higher than the pelvis stands the torso, below the legs.

Step 3: Head size

To find how big the head of the model should be divide the upper space from the pelvis in 3 equal
parts.

The top segment is where the head and the neck are going to be. Separate it in 3 again.

Step 4 Draw the head

Draw the head in the first 2/3 of the top section.
Continue and draw the neck in the last 1/3.
Tip: If everything is correct so far you should have enough space to draw 3 more heads from the neck
down to the pelvis. Check it out, its important.

Step 5: Draw the torso

Draw the figures torso. If you need help with it use the How to draw female torso tutorial. I wont
tell anyone ;)
Make sure you do not erase the little circles on the hips, you are going to need them in the next step.

Step 6: Hips move

This is the most essential step in drawing this fashion pose. You need to move the whole hips area to
the left.
Also make sure that the left circle stands higher than its original position and the right circle stands
lower than before.
If you were to connect the two circles with a line it would be no longer horizontal, but rather diagonal.
Tip: The incline of the hips is always from the front leg toward the back one.

Step 7: The front leg

One head from the ground mark a spot close to the body Centerline. Join this spot with the higher hip
circle. This way you will hint the direction of the front leg.
In the middle of the legs guideline draw a circle for the knee.

Step 8: Draw the leg

Using the How to draw legs tutorial draw the front leg of your model. The spot that you marked in
the previous step is approximately where you should place the ankle. Note that the foot is not tilted,
but straight, parallel to the body Centerline.
Draw a circle for the knee of the back leg right next to the other.
Use a short horizontal line to indicate the level of the toes of the back leg. This line should be about
the ankles of the front leg.

Step 9: The back leg

Connect the lower hip circle to the back leg knee.
Draw the foot. Its size is almost the same size as front legs. Note that it ispartially hidden behind the
front leg. The more-the better.
Use an arched line to join the knee with the foot.

Step 10: Back leg

Finish the outline of the back leg following the guidelines you just made. Notice that there is space
between the tights.
Draw the guidelines for the arms as seen at How to draw arms tutorial. Remember that the elbows
are always at level of the waist.
Tip: Keep the arm corresponding to the front leg close to the body and slightly behind it. The arm
corresponding to the back leg should be drawn away from the figure.

Step 11: Arms

Finish drawing the arms of your model and erase any unnecessary lines.

Add the face, hair and your fashion design to make this walking pose absolutely amazing!

Sitting Pose
Step 1: Draw the head
The first thing you need to do is to make sure youve done the composition well the whole fashion
figure. Draw a vertical Centerline and make an oval shape for the head in the upper right corner. This
shape should be slightly inclined to the right, since the model will be looking through her shoulder.
If you have difficulties with the head shape take a look at the How to draw fashion face tutorial.

Step 2: Shoulder and neck

Slightly below the head draw a slanted line to mark the shoulder. You dont want to make this line too
long, or the shoulders will become wide and not very feminine. Put medium sized circle in the end of

the shoulder line.

Connect the shoulder and the head via a short line, exactly where the Centerline crosses.

Step 3:Draw the arm guidelines

To indicate the elbow draw a smaller circle, touching the Centerline. The distance between the
shoulder and the elbow is about 1 heads. Join the circles.
To indicate the wrist make even smaller circle that again touches the Centerline. The distance between
the elbow and the wrist is about 1 head. Join the circles keeping the line parallel with the Centerline.

Mark the hand position by two overlapping ellipses.

Step 4: Drawing the arm and hand

Surround the guidelines with some flesh. Follow the directions of the base and build the arm volume.
To draw the hand, straighten the curves from the basic guidelines. Add a small triangle for the thumb
and bring your attention to the direction of the thumb. Then add a rounded shape to this triangles
bottom part and draw 3 vertical lines to indicate the fingers. Make the first 3 fingers slightly longer.
Tip: Drawing the arm right is essential for the side-back view of a fashion figure. Models arms are thin
and delicate try to keep this in mind while drawing your illustration. If you need check out "How to
draw arms".

Step 5:The back and leg

The back of your model is easy to draw- just join the head with the wrist circle via curved line.
Tip: Be careful with this spin curve making it too straight would make her look stiff, and curving it
more than needed will make her look tired.

To mark the place of the bent leg draw a slanted line. Stop at the armpit level and finish with a
medium size circle. The length of the leg shouldnt exceed beyond the shoulder.

Step 6:Guidelines for the legs

Draw the calf of the bent leg. Its slightly longer then the thigh.
To draw the second tight make a horizontal line from the wrist circle. Size is same as the other tight.
Mark the knee and draw slightly slanted line for the second calf. You can play with different poses just
by changing this calfs position.

Add the feet guidelines as shown in the How to draw high heels tutorial, and notice the position of

the upper foot.

Step 7: Finishing the legs
Following the guidelines, add some flesh to the illustration. Notice that the bent leg becomes curved
and wider in the butt area. Some volume to the back tight is also needed to make the body look
realistic.

Curve the edges and erase all the unnecessary lines.

Step 8: Bust and tummy

Place the bust in the middle of the area shown in the illustration and draw a little bit of the tummy

that is visible in this particular pose.

This is the base of how to draw sitting figure. Now add a beautiful face, hair and of course clothes to
turn this illustration into an absolute masterpiece. Enjoy!

Backpose
Step 1: Guidelines

Start by placing the guidelines that will help you build the back view pose. Mark the
top and the bottom of the Centerline. Find the middle of the distance and mark
slightly above. This will be the Half line of the body, since fashion sketches tend to be
drawn with longer legs. Divide the upper half in 3 parts.

Step 2: Head proportions

On the right side of the Centerline draw the head. Draw it slightly smaller than the
upper most 1/3 part.

Draw two ellipses on each side of the Centerline to mark the booty.
The right ellipse starts from the true Half line and its middle is the Fashion Half line.
Make sure that the booty ellipses and the model head are about the same size.
Tip: Notice that the right booty iis placed lower that the left one. If the model was facing the other
direction this would be the opposite.

Step 3: Mark the spine

Draw a gently curved line from the model head to the Centerline just above the booty. This is a
guideline for the spine of the figure.
Join the right most point of the booty to the bottom of the Centerline. This line is very slightly curved
out.

Step 4: Shoulders and heels

Leave some space for the neck and pull a straight horizontal line to mark the shoulders. The female
figure shoulders are about the same width as the hips. Make sure you have even length from both sides
of the spine. Mark two circles at the end of the line.
Draw a straight line from the left booty ellipse to the ground. It should extendnot too far from the

right shoulder. Mark the heels at head from the ground.

Step 5: Draw the torso

Start by marking the place where the knees are going to be this is the middle of the line from heels to
booty.
In Step 1 the upper part of the Centerline was devided in 3. The top of the 3rd part is where the waist
is supposes to be. Imagine that the width of the waist is about the same as the width of the head and
connect it to the shoulders.
Pull down a vertical line from the right shoulder and draw a circle at waist levelfor the elbow. At the
end of the line mark the hand using a horizontal ellipse.

Tip: Remember from the How to draw arms tutorial that the elbow stands right at the middle of the
arm. Try not to make the arms too long or too short.
Draw the left arm keeping in mind that shoulder-to-elbow length is the same for both arms.

Step 6: Flesh
Using the guidelines start building the form of the body. Use all the guidelines as Centerlines except

for the left leg, where it is the outline.

Step 7: More flesh

Finish the arms and the legs. Hint the hand and draw the back view of the shoes as shown in the
illustration. First add a trapezoid under the heel for the shoes soles. Then add the actual heel making

it slightly longer compared to the trapezoid. Finish by curving the lines and adding detail to the shoe.

Step 8: Finishing touches

Small details can really make the difference when drawing a fashion figure from the rare view . Hint
the elbows, the back of the knees and a few lines on the back. Add a hairstyle to the model and you

are ready to go!

Learning how to draw a back view pose can save you a lot a frustration when presenting your fashion
designs from another angle. Master this easy to follow technique and drawing backless dresses will be a
pure pleasure for you. Enjoy!

Step 1 The blueprint

Draw a circle and mark its center. Dont push too hard with the pencil.

Step 2
Draw another one on top of it. The second circle should overlap the first one and touch its center. Put
a Centerline for both the circles.

Step 3 Nose and chin

Slightly below the center of the first circle mark a dash. This indicates your models nose.

Make the chin in the bottom most part of the first circle.

Step 4 A femenine jaw

Draw smooth and graceful line connecting the chin with last point before the circle starts to narrow.
Try not to splay the lines too much, keep them close to the blueprint.

Step 5
Finish the outline of the head by joining the circles.
It the middle of the space between the nose and the chin draw a horizontal line.
Draw two lines with about the same length as the mouth. Start from where the two circles cross each
other and countinue towards the Centerline. The space betweet the eyes would be approximatly
equal to the size of each eye.

Step 6
In the half-way between the nose and the mouth draw a short line indicating the upper lip. Put onother
line in the half of the mouth-to-chin distance.

A bit under the eyes you already marked draw paralel lines .

Tip: Youll add glamour to your illustration if you keep the eyes not too large and opened. Fashion
faces love cateyes.
Step 7
Close the eyes as shown. Stay away from the head outline.
Draw a wide U where you marked the upper lip and repeat it upsized in the middle of the mouth

Centerline.

Step 8 Beautiful lips

Smooth the eyes sharp angles as shown.
Finish the mouth. Use the marks you already have drawn and start from them. It looks better if you

dont pull the lines of the lower lip right to the mouth Centerline.

Step 9 Delicate nose

Draw the nosetrips where you initially marked the nose. Hint the nose tip and the bridge.

Step 10
Just under the lower lip put a short line that will indicate the chin.
Draw che cheekbones pointing towards the nose. Keep soft and close to the eyes.
The eyebrows will go up until they reach the blueprint circle and than curve however you want their

shape to be.

Step 11
Divide the eye in three parts. Draw two half circles in second 1/3 of the eye.
Finish the eyebrows. Leaving them too fine they will make them look unnatural. Check "The
importance of eyebrows in fashion design sketches" for examples of different types of eyebrows you

can use for your models.

Step 12
Put the ears starting from the eye line to the nosetip. The ear are frequently covered by hair, but you
might need them.
The necks of ashion illustration models are longer and thiner than normal. Start the neck from the line
where the lower lip ends and make it at least half head long.

Finish her eyes. Put the makeup paying attention to the original shape of the eyes youve drawn.

Step 13
Divide the forehead in 3 and fill the frst part with hair.

Be creative and give your beauty a lovely hairstyle of you liking !

The same face base looks so different with different hairstyles. Try your own and have fun!

It doesnt look right! Common mistakes:

Error 1: The jaw starts too high and the face looks triangular. Start the jaw a little bit lower and make
the lines soft, close to the gidelines.

Error 2: The eyes are too separated. Always leave some space from the eyes outer corner to the head
outline and distance equal to about one eye between the two.

Step 1: Draw the profile guidelines

Start with drawing two overlapping circles one above the other, as in the How to draw fashion
face tutorial. Their centers should touch the outline of the other circle. Right next to the upper circle
draw a third one. All the three shapes should have the same size in order to get good results with your
profile drawing.
Tip: These guideline circles are very important and you are going to need them until the very end of
the tutorial, so make sure everything is exactly as in the example illustration.

Step 2: Add curves

Using smooth curves connect the gap between the circles as shown. These will be the Front profile

curve and the Top head curve.

Step 3: Eyes and nose

Draw a short horizontal line from the point where the first two circles overlap. This is where the eye is
going to be placed.
From the Center point of the bottom circle draw a horizontal line crossing the Front profile curve.
Make a small circle lying on this horizontal line. This will be the nose tip.
Mark another line above the Eye line. This is the Eyebrow line. The distance between those two lines

is about the same as the nose tip diameter.

Step 4: Draw the profile nose

Follow the Front profile curve and draw the forehead until you reach the Eyebrows line. When you
reach it go in, until you reach the Eye line level. The Direction of this short line should be parallel to
the big guideline circle next to it.

Draw the nose of your model. Notice that the nose ends in the middle of the nose tip, dont go any

further.
Step 5: Nostrils
Draw inclined line touching the bottom circle and right above it put the nostril.
In order to draw the nostril like shown in the example illustration, turn the sheet and make a regular
question mark, without its point.

Notice that the nostril touches the bottom circle too.

Step 6: More guidelines

Pull vertical guidelines from the most bulged part of the forehead and the end of the nostril.
Draw a horizontal guideline from the bottom most point of the bottom circle.

The point where the latter is crossed by the nostril line will be the end of the chin.

Step 7:
Connect the nose tip with the Chin point (2). The place where this slant line crosses the Forehead
guideline is where we will have the Mouth centerline(1).Point (3) indicates the jawline. The Jawline
point is on the horizontal level of the Mouth centerline and touches the guideline circle from the other

side.

Step 8: Draw the mouth

Start drawing the upper lip with an S- like curve between the nose and the mouth centerline. Make
sure that at least the half of this curve is following the incline of the nose tip-chin line.
Draw a little circle below the mouth centerline point to indicate the lower lip. This little circle

should fill the gap between the nose tip-chin line and the nostril line.

Step 9: Finish the mouth

Draw beautiful smooth curve to finish the upper lip and just hint gently the lower lip.
Tip: The rule of thumb is to line up the mouth corner with where the eye begins.

Join the Jaw line with the center of the circle as shown in the example illustration. This will show you
what the incline of the ear should be.

Step 10: Chin and Jaw

Finish the chin where the chin point was. Notice that just below the mouth the chin slopes in, than it
turns back in an angle (not a curve!) and then you continue with a smooth curve to finish the chin.
Continue drawing the jawline. Look how the female jawline is not straight horizontal, but inclined,
going towards the Jaw point, where it turn up and reaches the nose level.
From the nose level up mark where the ear of your fashion sketch will be. The ear should be no higher

than the Eyebrow line level, or it will look too big.

Step 11: Draw the eye

Profile eyes are different from front face eyes. See the mini steps and place the eye on the Eye line.
The size should be about the same at the visible part of the mouth.
Draw the details of the ear and the cheekbone. The cheekbone will follow the curve of the initial big

circles guidelines.

Step 12: Head and neck

When drawing a profile face you need to have in mind the form of the skull too. It is not enough to
draw the features of your model only. Cut about of the side guideline Circle and outline the skull.
Draw the eyebrows, pulling guidelines from the nostril towards the beginning and the end of the eye.
Lastly, draw the neck of your profile fashion face. Notice that the neck begins after the bottom most
part of the initial guidelines circles.
Tip: Notice that the neck is coming down as a slant. Please dont draw it as two vertical lines.

Step 13: Hair

Draw a hairstyle to suit the attitude and outfit of your fashion sketch. Make sure you have drawn the
hairline correctly and enjoy your work.

Step 1 The guidelines

Divide the head in three and mark the middle of the second section.
*If you are not really satisfied with the face shape of your model check out theHow to draw fashion
face tutorial where you will see additional way to place the eyes correctly.

Step 2 Finding the right place

Eyes should never be touching the outline of the face and should be of equal size each. Leave some
space from the sides to draw the temples and divide the rest in three equal parts.
Tip: According to the Golden rule between the eyes enough space for a third one should be left. This
guarantees you a pretty look. In my illustrations I prefer to leave just a little bit less. Its just my
personal preference.

Step 3
Mark how wide the eyes are going to be. Remember that in fashion you are looking for a glamorous,
sophisticated look. Keep the lines comparatively close to each other.

Step 4
Close the eye shapes with tilted lines the way that it is shown.
In this example the right eye will be opened and the left one-closed.

Step 5
Soften the edges and find the middle of the eye.
For the opened eye draw a curved line coming down, that starts from the Centerline. These curves
will give your model a sexy cat look.

Step 6 Drawing the pupil

If she is looking straight forward your models pupil will be situated in themiddle 1/3 of the eye.
Draw two overlapping circles and hide about half of them under the upper eyelid. Fill the inner one
with black, leaving a tiny white dot to make the eye come alive.
Tip: If your are looking for more drama and mystery in the face expression of your girl try to hide small
part of the circles under the lower lid too.

Step 7: The eyelashes

Bold the outline of the eye trying not to change the original form. This will serve for eyeliner and
eyelashes. Notice that the bolding of the lower side ends at the eye Centerline and that the upper
lashes are a bit longer.
Mark the eyelashes of the closed eye.
In the inner corner of the eyes draw small ellipses ellipses for the tear ducts.

Step 8
Add very delicate eyelid detail, draw the eyebrows and finish the rest of the features. Note the lines
that mark the temple- you can skip them, but they are a nice finish touch if youd like.
Eyebrows are very important for the expression of your model's face. Check"The importance of
eyebrows in fashion design sketches" to see different types and variation.

Eyeliners and eyelashes

There are many different ways to contour the eye. Here are 10 variations of fashion eyes. Pick one you
like the most or get inspired and find your own manner of drawing it.

After adding some shading on the face and nice hairstyle your illustration is good to go!

Step 1: Draw the base color

Choose a color for the base of the makeup. It should be lighter than the rest you will be laying down
later. Place it all over the upper eyelid and carefully double the eye contour from the bottom side.

Step 2: Second tone

Lay down a second tone, which will be darker than the base. Start from the outer corner and extend it
to about 1/3 of the eye, or where the pupil stands. Do both the upper and the lower eyelids. Try to
blend the makeup gently with the base color, without any harsh lines.

If you want the makeup to be bold and really catch views attention go over the eyelid fold too.

Step 3: Shadows secrets

Its time for the darkest makeup shade. Draw the last layer with a pencil and use a q-tip to smudge the
color and make it look like real eyeshadows. Do both the upper and lower eyelids.
Tip: If you like to draw your fashion sketches with pencils consider smudging the colors or laying down
enough layers so that the gaps between the pencil strokes disappear. Coloring using color pencils takes
a lot of time. If you do it quickly the sketch might not look professionally.

Step 4: Add depth

Find a shade that is slightly darker than the base and place it in the inner corner of the eye. For
natural looking makeup smudge the pencil with a q-tip.

Make sure that the base color is visible only in the middle of the eyelids above and below the pupil.

Step 5: Draw eyelashes and eyeliner

While drawing the makeup of your model the eye outlines might have disappeared a bit. Outline the
eyes with a black pen, make the line thicker in the outer corner. Draw few eyelashes and make sure
they are slightly curved, not completely straight.
See examples of different eyeliners and eyelashes for fashion sketches in theHow to draw fashion

eyes tutorials.

Step 6: The blush

The blush is a very tricky part of fashion makeup. Find a soft pastel in an appropriate color and draw
few lines on a separate piece of paper. Use a clean q-tip as a brush- take from the color and place it on
your models face in circular motion.

You will need several turns to make it look vivid. Dont forget that when it comes to blush less is more!

Step 7: Lipstick base

Isolate two ellipses one in the center of the lower lip and one on the upper lip, where you see it in

the example illustration. Color everything but the little ellipses using a lipstick color of your choice.

Step 8: Lipstick volume

In order to make the lipstick of the fashion face look 3-dimentional take a darker shade and color right
below the lower lip ellipse. Color the bottom half of the upper lip too, trying to keep the shape of the
lips.
Gently blend the colors. This easy technique will give your model a shiny lip gloss that looks very nice

on fashion sketches.

Hopefully you liked the tutorial and your result. The last step is optional- use it only for special
occasions styling. Take a white gel pen on gouache and place tiny little dots all over the makeup you
just created. This will add glittering effect and make it look glam and shiny.

Step 1 Preparation
Start with all finished head and face except the smile. Have everything prepared.
Tip: You may want to leave the eyes just a little bit smaller than usual because when we smile we tend
slightly to close our eyes, so that their vertical diameter is visually reduced.

Step 2 Guidelines
Pull the head Centerline from the nose to the chin. Mark the middle- this is themouth Centerline.
Draw the lines that go straight down from eyes center. They are indicating where the smile ends.
Tip: Sometimes your model will be drawn looking at direction other than straight forward. Thats why
you want to start the guidelines from the center of the eye, not the center of the pupil.

Step 3

Mark with a dash the halfway distance from the mouth Centerline to the nose. Its the upper lip.
Mark with a smaller dash the halfway distance from the upper lip to the nose.

Step 4
Continue the upper lip line to the guidelines. Dont curve it, keep it straight.
Make a line underneath the mouth Centerline that is down the same space as from the upper lip to
mouth Centerline.

Step 5
Cut the upper lip line in 4 parts and lengthen the lines as shown.
Make the ends of the upper lip line slightly curved upwards without going out of the boundaries.

Step 6
Join all the parts and be careful with the upper lip. You have to draw a tiny hollow in the place where
you marked the initial dash.

Step 7
Erase all the guidelines and smooth the curves of the smile. You can add a delicate wrinkle detail in

upper lips end if you want to.

Step 1: Hairline for a front view face

Pull vertical lines from the end point of the eyes upwards. Then make a horizontal one to mark where
the hair starts to grow from.
Tip: if you have issius with drawing the models face take a look at thehow to draw a fashion
face tutorial, where it is all explained.
After you have set the guidelines find the centerline of the face (in this case its the middle of the
horizontal line) and go in the forehead a little bit. Try to make the curve symmetrical.
Connect the horizontal and the vertical lines via a curve, allowing yourself to go into the forehead
again.
Note how the bulged part of the hairline ends just before it reaches the eyebrows and how the vertical
line now has a delicate Scurve. If you are going for a realistic look it is important not to leave it
perfectly straight.

Step 2: Hairline for a profile face

You have the horizontal line, that marks the end of the forehead and the vertical one that stands
very close to the ear of you model. Join those two lines via a curve. You can easily determine where to
place this curve using the outer corner of the eye as shown in the illustration.
After you are ready, sketch the part of the hairline that goes in the forehead. It shows where the
forehead ends and plays an important role for the realistic look of the hair. To draw this segment find
the middle of the curve you just did. It should be close to 45 degree from the outer corner of the
eye. Its form is something like a triangle with a cut corner.
Pay attention how the little segment of hairline behind the ear is drawn. It should follow the same
direction as the other part of the hairline.

Dont miss the little triangle detail in the Centerline of the

forehead.
Step 3: Hairline for 3/4 fashion face
To draw the hair in 3/4 perspective view you have to combine the front view face with the profile one.
Firstly, as in profile view pull a horizontal line to indicate where the forehead ends and a vertical one
close to the ear. Note how the space between the later and the ear is closed. Join the vertical and
horizontal line via a curve. Draw the hair segment behind the ear, making sure that it doesn't start
exactly where the ear does. That way you give it the illusion it stands behind the ear.
Then find the head Centerline and come in with the hair as shown in the illustration. Go out where the
curve was and in again close to the eyes outer corner. The end result should be something similar to
the letter Zwith soft

edges.
Step 4: Draw Hairline for 3/4 backview face:
Drawing the hairline from this perspective is actually really easy once you understand the logic behind.

Mark the horizontal and vertical boundaries of the hair youre already familiar with. Note that they
both have a slight inclinebecause of the view point. Join them with a nice soft curve and then add the
segment that is placed behind the ear. Notice that this segment starts about at the middle of the
ear and that the horizontal part is perpendicular to the neck.
Then find the Centerline of the neck and give the hairline a more realistic feeling, adding a bit of
volume.
Tip: Have in mind that in this perspective( as well in the face 3/4 view) the Centerline of the head
seems moved towards the half of the head that is less visible.
Draw the bulged part of the hairline helping yourself with the eyes outer corner and dont miss the
detail of incoming hair just where the ear stands.

Step 5: How to draw the hairline for backview:

What you should know about drawing hair in back view is that there are many variations, but the one
show here is very easy do draw and realistic enough. Starting from the ears draw two tilted lines and a

horizontal one at the necks base. Give the horizontal one a curve and close the ears.

Enough with the first step of drawing the hair The hairline. I hope it was interesting and useful for
you! In part II you will learn how to draw the hairs, the roots and the ends, the light and dark parts to
make your fashion sketches absolutely fabulous!

Step 1: Draw a hairstyle outlines

Draw the outlines of the hairstyle you like.
Tip: Make sure youve marked some of the ends of the hair and you have a hair path. In case your
hairstyle doesnt need a path, the same coloring rules will be applied to the hairline around the
forehead.
Now imagine few ellipses covering the hair. Two of them will be placed always on the top of the head.
The number and position of the rest depends on the hair length. For the example illustration two

ellipses ( at chin and at shoulder level) are just enough.

Step 2: Draw the highlights

Having the position of the ellipses in mind, start building the highlights with a very light color.
Start your lines from outside of the ellipse and finish about its border. For best results try to make the
hairs gradually disappear as you enter the ellipse and leave its center white.
Tip: Find balance in the width of each hair. If you draw too many and too thin lines they will take you
an eternity to finish; if you draw them too quickly your fashion sketch might look messy.

Step 3: Mark the shadows

Shadows, of course depend on the light source and many other things, but in this tutorial well use the
basic shadows rule: Whats behind or in the deep is darker!
So color the area around the head using a darker shade, since its behind the face.

The area behind the ear is darker too and right next to the hair path there will be some shadows.

Step 4: Add the Basetone

Add a second layer of hairs that blend it with the highlights from step 2.
Pick a color that is darker than the highlights, but lighter that the shadow tone.
Tip: Every new layer of hairs starts further away from the ellipse and ends (blending) where the
previous layer started.
Blend gently with the highlights from top and bottom side of each ellipse. Remember not to cover the
highlights completely- part of them should remain visible.

Notice that near the path the brush strokes follow the head shape and are curving.

Step 5: Fill it all

Use the same color from previous step to fill the empty spots of the hair. Dont worry if its not perfect

at this point.

Step 6: Draw 3nd layer of hair

Take the shadows color and the next layer of hairs.
Start from the shadow areas. The lines should cover part of the base color, but never touch the

highlights. Keep the direction of the lines parallel to the outlines.

Step 7: Draw 4rd layer of hair

To make the hair look more realistic you need to add a last layer of hairs. Use a color even darker than
your shadows- maybe something greyish or even black for brunettes. Start the furtherst away from the

ellipses and move carefully in.

Step 8: Blend!
After you went through all the steps most probably you will need to blend the result in order to make
the hair appear more natural and smooth. Use the same technique filling all the gaps and uneven parts

that you dont like. Work until youre satisfied.

Step 9: Glitters in my hair

This is an optional step that goes very well with most formal hairstyles. Add few white dots in various

sizes. You can even draw tiny stars here and there. Place these dots near the highlighted areas and be

aware of not overworking it.

Hopefully this how to draw shiny hair technique was helpful for you. Have fun creating amazing
hairstyles for your fashion sketches and build a great, great portfolio!
Step 1: Starting with a nice face
Draw the face of your model. In case this seams challenging try the How to draw fashion
face tutorial.
Make sure the forehead is not too big nor too short. Add the ears most of them will be covered by
hair, but it always looks better and more realistic if at least small part is showing through.

Step 2: Draw the hairline

Using the How to draw hairline tutorial draw the curved line that defines where the hair starts
growing. The hair is going into the forehead at the temples and at the top center part as shown.
This glamorous hairstyle has a lot of luscious volume. Starting from the middle of the temples pull a
straight line at about 45 degrees. Connect the two sides with an arch and mark its Centerline. Draw an
inclined line to the right of the arch Centerline this will be the hair parting.
Tip: Depending on how voluminous you want the hairstyle to appear you may go for a bigger or smaller
shape at the top of the head. Experiment and find what works best for you.

Step 3: Hair guidelines

Begin from the hair parting line and draw a curve going through the middle of Centerline, the outer
corner of the eye to the middle of the left ear. This will be a sexy, free falling strand of hair.
>From the center of the 45degree lines pull down lines that will serve as guidelines for the hair
dimensions. Make sure you leave enough distance from the ears to the side outline and mark the hair

length with a curved line.

Step 4: Luscious volume

Finish the sexy strand by drawing identical line over the first one. Dont make it look too thin and make
sure you have gentle variation in the width of the strand. Notice how it is curving behind the hair. It
is essential part of a glamorous hairstyle drawing.
Draw a nice smooth strand over the right shoulder of the model. It is covering almost the whole
shoulder.
Lastly draw short lines in different lengths from the parting line out. Notice that they are curved, not
straight!

Step 5: Hair outlines

Using the guidelines from the previous steps draw the outlines of the hairstyle. An Sshaped
line usually works best, but you can also come up with your own way of smoothing the angles and

giving the hairs a more natural look.

Step 6: Strands
Erase the unnecessary, distracting lines and start drawing the hair strands. It is important to remember
that each strand has its individual, unique width. Dont make the lines perfectly aligned to each other
play a little bit.
Notice how the thick strand covering the right shoulder is separated by a line. This line is drawn from
the hair outline and is not making it to the roots. This gives air to breath to the illustration avoid
drawing all of your lines from one end to another.
The new strands are curving behind the same way as the big ones.

Step 7: More hair

Draw more hair. Your lines should look flowing, natural and not stiff. Leave enough space between the
strands, give them different directions, size, even let them cover each other. Continue to the hair ends
in the same spontaneous way.

Step 8: Little rebels

Some rebel strands will give live to this already glamorous hairstyle. Choose the places that appeal to
your eye and add a few thinner hairs. Dont go wild with this step or the hairstyle will start looking
messy.

Finish the ends make them look nicely curved and not perfectly aligned.

Step 9: Coloring the hair

Depending on the dominant colors in your fashion sketch choose a hair color that harmonizes well with
the rest of the drawing. Fill all the hair with a nice solid color and shade the roots and the ends of each
strand as shown.
You need to treat each strand individually! This might take longer to render, but the results will be
much nicer.

Step 10: Highlights

Finish the coloring of the hair by adding highlights in the middle of each strand. Again- you want to
treat each of them individually. Consider darkening the roots with a darker pencil roots always appear
darer than the rest of the hair.
Finish the rendering of your fashion sketch.

Step 1 Draw a blueprint

Draw a Centerline for your braid with the needed length.
Draw the outer lines thath will be the frame of your braid. Consider that braids are thicker in the
beginning and get much thinner in the end.

Step 2 Draw the first strand

Begin with a small semicircle. Its start and end should touch the Centerline. Dont make it too round
or too eclipse.
The outer line is parallel with the inner one. Also the former starts a little higher than the latter.

Step 3 Heres the secret

The inner line of the second strand starts in the same point where previous inner line ends. It closes
the first strand forming a nice curve. Stop when you reach the Centerline.
Imagine a horizontal line crossing the last drawn strand right in the middle. From there you will start

the outer line of the new strand. Keep it parallel with the inner and finish in the Centerline again.

Step 4
Next inner line starts from previous inner line and ends at previous outer line.
Tip: If you push harder or draw a small dot where the inner part starts this will give more dimension to
your braid.

Its corresponding outer line is still parallel, beginning half the size of the previous strand and ending in
the Centerline.

Step 5
Close the previous strand, draw the parallel outer line.

Step 6 Keep on repeating it.

Keep doing it until the braid frame ends. Remember to follow the lines of the frame you have set. Draw

an elastic band to hold your braid. Make sure the last strand and the band to have the same width.

Step 7 After it ends

Draw a diamond overlapping the bottom of the braid. This will be for the rest of the hair.

Step 8 Add some realism

Shape the diamond making it smooth and adding some hairs.
Add fine lines in different sizes to every strand. The fine lines should follow the curve of the
strand and be drawn both in the start and in the end of it. Draw some lines from the upper most
strands to help blend them with the rest of the hair.

Got it? I challenge you!

Braids look even better when a little life and joy is added. Try to draw a Centerline that is not
perfectly straight, but have some movement. Push your imagination!
If it is hard for you to follow the curves, just remember to rotate the paper to position the braid

vertically like you are already confident drawing it. From then on just follow the frame of the braid.

It doesnt look right! Common mistakes:

Error 1: The inner line is too far to close the upper strand. Try to draw them both the same size.

Error 2: The elastic hair band results too big for the braid. Try to add a little bit of hair or just make
the band smaller.

Error 3: The fine lines are in the wrong direction because of the twisted braid form. Always follow the
curve of the strands when drawing those tiny hairs. Thats how you dont get confused.

Error 4: If you make the outlines of the braid first and then the Centerline you can get a braid that
looks too thin in the end and is hard to draw.

Step 1
Draw your models head, face and hairstyle as if she wasnt supposed to wear a hat. It is important to
draw with a pencil in this stage, because later you will have to erase some parts of the drawing.

Step 2 Guidelines
Pull a diagonal line from the highest point of the eyebrow to about the middle of the ear. Pass through
the eye corner.
Draw another line- parallel with the shoulder, slightly below the hairline. Keep the lines long enough.

Step 3
Connect the marks from step 2 with a smooth curved line and add length in the lower end to obtain the

sensation of the letter S.

Step 4 The brim

Close the brim as shown in the picture. The form should make a remembrance of a water drop.
Tip: Try not to displace the lines. Keep in mind that behind her neck they should come together for the
outline of the brim.

Step 5 The crown

The bottom of the crown lays down in about the middle of the parting. As the head is round, the line

should be not perfectly straight, buts lightly curved or as shown with at least two little corners.

Step 6
Connect the bottomline of the crown with the brim. Draw the lines soft and smooth, as the hat is made

of textile, and let the S curve lead you.

Step 7 Clean up
Its time to erase everything under the hat that will be invisible for the eye.
Draw a rectangular guideline for the hats crown. Make sure you have covered the whole top part of
the head. It depends of the model of course, but for best results try not to make the crown higher than

the front center part of the brim.

Step 8 Smoothen it
Smoothen the crowns edges and add some details to the brim. You need just a hint of details, add

them with measure.

Step 9
Finish your hat by drawing a beautiful trim, a ribbon or maybe some flowers. Its time to show up your

creativity!

Give your illustration the new accessory you just learned how to draw!
Step 1: Draw the feet
Start by drawing the feet of your model. There is no need for a lot of details and drawing all the toes.
Just a basic shape to start with. If you have difficulties drawing the feet use the How to draw high

heels and How to draw front view shoes as reference.

Step 2: Sneakers shape and size

Mark the top edge of the sneakers. Usually they reach slightly above the ankle. Make sure the line is
not completely straight as the legs have volume this will cause a slight curve downwards.
Draw ellipses for the toe caps. You want to leave enough space for the toes to move, but not too much
to distort the proportion of the feet. Notice that the profile toe cap exceeds only from the top and

the side. The bottom if flat.

Step 3: The tongue

Erase all the unnecessary lines and draw the tongue. To achieve the illusion that it is standing behind

the upper draw it slightly wider than it as shown in the illustration.

Step 4: Eyelids and sole

This type of sport shoes usually has between 6 to 8 eyelids depending on the shoe height. Draw them
evenly separated from one another and pull a dashed line right next to them. It represents the typical
stitching for sports shoes.
Draw the soles of the sneakers. Remember: don't draw them too thin nor changing in height. Follow the

foot guidelines, but feel free to straighten some of the lines where needed.

Step 5: Tie them up

Pay enough attention to drawing the shoelaces. When the fashion sketch is finished it will be a big plus
if you have them drawn correctly. Start by drawing the lines marked as red and add the green ones
later. The logic is the same as doing it in real life: starting from the bottom make a zig-zag skipping
one eyelid on each side. Use an eraser and make sure the green lines go behind the red ones.
Tip: For more detailed explanation on how to draw the shoelaces check out the How to draw a
corsettutorial

Step 6: Build up
Time to draw the shoelaces knot. The easiest way to do it is by drawing a horizontal 8 for the ears
and two loose lines hanging down from its center ( they are not straight! ) Outline it all and add two
tiny oblong shapes to the bottom of the laces to finish them.

Add a decorative line to the middle of the back side of the sole.

Step 7: Details do matter!

Draw the logo of the sneakers- it could be the classic star or anything your imagination creates. Draw
some more stitches in the front side of the shoes and also several small creases right above the heel to

hint that shoes are made of fabric.

Step 8: How to color?

Choose a nice shade that go well with the rest of your design and cover the fabric part of the sneakers.
The toe caps, soles and laces should be left lighter. Add a gentle shadow to the sides of the tongue to

emphasize its standing behind and you are good to go!

Drawing sneakers can be a lot of fun and it definitely helps to create a different mood of the fashion
sketch. Dont be afraid to experiment with shapes, colors and designs to make your illustrations unique
and different every time!
Step 1: The right measurements
Before starting to draw the shoes you need to make sure they are the correct size for your fashion figure.
As seen the Drawing front view pose tutorial the feet of the model match the size of the head.
Measure the head of your model and leave the same space from the ankles to the ground. Start the line

right in the middle of the leg and pull it down.

Step 2: Base shapes

Divide the Centerline in 3 even parts. Starting from the ankles draw two slanted lines in the first two
sections. Add a slightly wider horizontal ellipse in the lowest section. Be careful with the proportions of

these base shapes the feet need to be only slightly wider compared to the ankles.

Step 3: Draw some toes

Now its time to refine the toes line. Draw a curved line that is pointier than the ellipse but fits into it. It
helps if you stop at the center line. Make sure that this pointed arch is also slightly wider than the rest of
the foot as was the ellipse.
Tip: If you are drawing an open toe shoes the thumb will occupy almost the whole inner half of the toes
arch. This is why you want to make the inner half of the arch more oval, less pointy.

Step 4: Drawing the front view shoe

It is important not to draw the front view shoe curve too deep to the toes nor too flat and straight. Use the
lower dividing line from Step 2 to help you find the accurate place for the shoe curve. It should be slightly
higher than the dividing line in the ends and dipping in at the Centerline. You know from the how to
draw clothes tutorials that everything wrapped around the body has its own volume and thickness. Draw
a thin curving around the foot as shown below.
Draw a flipped smaller curve right under the big one. This one indicates the delicate bump of the toes and

will add a touch of realism to the sketch.

Step 5: Draw the soles

Not only the side view shoes need beautiful heels and soles. The different designs will have soles of
different styles, but all of them follow the same rule. The sole looks longer in the center and shorter in the

ends. There is also has a small parallel to the ground part right in the middle.

Step 6: Drawing shoes straps

Some designs like roman sandals or ballerina shoes will have straps wrapped around the foot and the
leg. Always remember to draw them slightly curved since the body underneath has some volume and

this needs to be shown in your fashion illustration.

Step 7: Coloring
Color the shoes and leave a highlight on the toes bump. The highlight is a few shades lighter than the

base color. The sole will look nice and shiny if you leave a few white lines here and there on the sole.

Step 8: Coloring shadows

Drawing shadows adds a lot to the footwear designs. Use a darker shade of your base color and blend

form the outside parts in. Dont miss the straps.

Hopefully this step by step tutorial helped you to gain more understanding to drawing fron view shoes and
have inspired you for new, creative and original design!

Here are some variations of the front view shoes design you just learned how to draw:

1. Pointed shoes: Instead of fitting the pointed curve into the toes ellipse try to exaggerate it down a bit.
The tip of the shoe is in the center and slightly towards the thumb. This model has very delicate soles.
2. Sandals: Draw the thumb and the rest of the toes. Remember that the thumb is placed in the inner part
of the foot and it occupies almost the whole space to the Centerline.
3.Open toe shoes: To draw open toe shoes just add a curve to the bottom . It should reveal the whole
thumb and a small part of the second toe.
4. Boots: Leave some space between the leg and the boot to show that it is thick and not sticking to the
body. You can exaggerate the toes bump in boots and sneakers.
Common errors:
It doesnt look right! Common mistakes:

Error 1: The toes bump is placed too low. Draw the slightly lower than the shoe curve.

Error 2: The shoe curve is either too deep or too high. Use teh guidelines from Step 2 to help you find he
right place for it.

Error 3: The sole is not longer at the center, shorter at the ends. It also helps if you make the outer lines
slightly slanted towards the center.

Step 1: Dimensions of the zipper

First you need to decide how long you want the zipper to be. Draw a big Y in the center of your
sheet of paper. The upper part is where the zipper is opened, and the Vertical line well call Zipper
Centerline.

Dont push too hard with the pencil you will have to erase these guidelines soon.

Step 2: Zipper outlines

Add two parallel lines to the sides of the Centerline and below the opened part of the zipper. This step

is to indicate how wide the zipper will be.

Step 3:Mark zippers teeth

Now its time to turn the lines from Step 1 into dashed lines.
Make sure that the gaps are even to the dashes size not larger, nor smaller.
Tip: It is very important to make the dashes of the Centerline one step to the left, compared to the
guideline from step 1.

Step 4: Draw the zipper teeth

Draw the teeth of the zipper over the gaps of the dashed line. Notice that the height of each tooth is
not greater then the length of the dashes. Also try to keep the form of the teeth as shown in the
illustration- smaller in the base and wider in the top part ( like a bell or a mushroom).

Leave enough space between the teeth and the zipper outline.

Step 5: Draw the zipper slider:

Make sure that the slider base covers the whole width of the zipper and follow the steps illustrated in
the side area. Feel free to create different variations of the part that you hold the zipper. Here is
shown a very basic one, but this is the part where you can actually get creative with form, size and
decorations.
First draw a circle with a pointy bottom part.Cover the bottom with a horizontal rectangle. Draw a long
ellipse and let it go out of the circle a little bit. Add the holder notice the that it covers about 1/3 of

the ellipse. Repeat the holder shape within.

Step 6: Add the zipper stops

Once youre done its time to draw the stops of the zipper at the upper and lower most part. They are
represented as small rectangles. You can also draw some stitching right next to the outline of the

zipper. The zipper needs to be sewn to the clothes and these stitches will make it look very realistic.

Have fun drawing zippers in different sizes and lengths! Create amazing fashion sketches and designs!

It doesnt look right! Common mistakes:

Here are illustrated some of the common mistakes related to drawing the zipper teeth. Watch out
for their form and size.

Step 1: Bag outlines

Decide on the proportions in height and width that you like and draw a rectangular shape to mark the
body of the bag. Draw a vertical line in the middle of the rectangle. This is the Centerline.

Step 2: Take care of perspective

In this example the bag is slightly turned to the left. This means that we are seeing it in view: its
front and its right side.
Move the Centerline to the left and mark a buckle in the middle of the line.

Distort the straight lines of the sides to make the illustration look less stiff and more like a real bag.
Notice the form (a curvy lines triangle) in the very right side of the bag. Thats the side view.

Tip: For best presentation of a bag design draw at least 2 of its sides visible. This will also give you
more space to include creative details in the design.
Tip: If you draw the side view (wavy lines triangle) in the left, the Centerline is pushed to the right. If
you draw the side view from the right, the Centerline is being pushed to the left.
Step 3: Add some sexy details
Following the same logic draw pockets to the bag.
Make sure that they are in the same perspective plan like the body. Always put the side plan only to
the right or only to the left.
See how the bottom of the pockets is a bit lower from the bag body bottom. Do this to add extra

dimension to your drawing.

Step 4: Draw the chain base

Draw holders in the top corners of the bag and mark overlapping circles from one side to the other.
This is the base for the chain, that will serve as a trap of the bag. The strap should be long enough to
pass through the shoulder watch for it.
Dont do the mistake to draw the circles too small this will take you a lot of time to finish the next
step.

Step 5: Finish the chain

To draw a realistic chain you need to take few steps.

First draw smaller circles in those you already have drawn. They represent the hole (negative space) of
each chain link.
Erase the lower left part of the upper link. Only where it intersects with the bottom one.
Erase the upper right part of the lower link. Only where it intersects with the upper one.
Repeat for all the links you have drawn and add interesting details to the bag.
For more detailed nstructions on how to draw the chain check the "How to draw chains" tutorial

Step 5: Final design details

For closing elements check out the "How to draw a belt" tutorial.

Many times just knowing how to draw a bag or a purse is just not enough. You have a model that will be
holding the bag and this should be drawn nicely. See some of the possible hand positions to hold a bag.
Exercise until you draw them perfectly and make sure you check the How to draw hands tutorial
first.

Have fun and creating your own fun and playful or elegant and classy bag designs!

And dont forget to incorporate them in your fashion sketches.

Step 1 Setting the guidelines

Before drawing the shoes you should leave enough space to draw the foot correctly. From the floor up
pull about one head height line, that (if continued) would serve as a Centerline of the leg. Mark the
middle point of this segment.

Step 2 Shoes in profile and front view

If you see the shoes from the front: just surround the Centerline with an ellipse.

If you see the shoes from the side: draw a tilted line with the same length, that crosses the leg
Centerline in the middle. The closer to Vertical you draw it, the higher the heel of the boots will
be.Surround the line with an ellipse.

Step 3
If you see the boot from the front: Draw an horizontal ellipse in the bottom of the first one. It should
be slightly wider than it and inclined as shown in illustration. This ellipse marks the toes.

Tip: When drawing feet and shoes always make sure you give a slight tilt of the toes from the little toe
towards the largest toe, which is the thumb.
If you draw the boots in profile draw a circle in the upper side for the heel and an ellipse in the bottom
for the toes. Connect those with an "S"curved line.

Step 4: The ankles

If you see the shoes from the front side: draw two little circles that will hint the ankles and connect
them with the toes. Notice how the inner side of the instep is more convex that the outer one.

Tip: The ankles should not be drawn at the same level. An important detail for successful fashion
illustration is to draw the inner ankle higher than the outer.
To draw the profile boot: Mark the ankle close to the Centerline of the leg and connect the calf with
the foot. The most bulged part of the instep is the one that is at the same level ad the heel.See
the How to draw high heels tutorial for more details on how to do this correctly.

Step 5 Boots outlines

Mark where the boots begin. Drawing this line go outside the legs borders. This is absolutely necessary
if the model of the boots is without zipper or laces, to be able to be put on. Note that the boot seen

from the side has this lineinclined from the back towards the front side.
Connect the uppermost part of the boots with the ankles and draw the high heel in the profile view.

Step 6 Add realism and volume

Crinkle the boundaries of the boots making the wrinkles bigger at the higher and smaller at the lower
end. Make sure they are with various sizes and fullness, so the illustration looks natural.
Curve the line of the upper end and make it wrap around the leg the same way as was shown in

the How to draw bracelet tutorial.

Step 7 Render it!

Lay down a flat layer of the color that you think suits well to the rest of the outfit.

Step 8 Add some shadows

Paint the shadows. Put some underneath every wrinkle, but remember to vary in density. You want the
shadows to give you depth, not to make the drawing boring by stuffing with many shadows that are

exactly the same. Make darker the inner lining of the boots too.

Step 9
Finally add the light using color pencils. Mix a tone that is few shades lighter than your base color and
white pencil for best results. Try to place the light at the segments that look the closest to the viewer

and add more in the middle of every wrinkle, than in the side ends.

These boots are made for walking! Draw an amazing fashion illustrations to show the best of them!

Step 1
You have the unfinished leg and have marked the floor level already.
From the ground up draw a Centerline thats a half-head long. If you are not drawing a whole figure,
but just the foot it should be 4x the width of the leg just over the ankle.
Use a small point to mark the middle of the line.

Step 2 2:35
Imagine the clock. If the Centerline was its arms the time would be 12:30. Right?
Now draw a second guideline with the same length as the first and make it show 2:35. Close it within
an ellipse as shown in the illustration.
Tip: This tutorial is about drawing really high stiletto heels. If you want some more flat, comfortable
ones all you have to do is move the clock arms to 3:40 or whichever height you prefer.

Step 3 Heel and Toes

In the upper corner of the ellipse draw a circle. Use the ellipses size as reference.
In the lower corner draw an ellipse that touches the Centerline. The 2:35 oclock line should pass
through the middle of the ellipse. This is for the toes.

Step 4
Connecting the circle and the ellipse draw the foot arch. Note that under the heel the curve is straight.
Mark the place of the ankle. Its situated closer to the Centerline than to legs outline.

Step 5
Draw the ankle and join the heel with the leg. Under the heel draw a triangle that will be used as
guideline for the spike heel.
Pull a horizontal line from the heel circles midway and mark the middle of the toes ellipse.

Step 6
Draw the heel. Use the little triangle to help you with the arch and make sure the heel is perpendicular
to the ground surface.
Use the lines from step 5 to build the instep curve. The line pulled from the circle should mark the
most bulging out section of the instep.

Step 7
Finish the toe box and draw new clock arms pointing 1:35 this time.

Step 8
Refine the shoe contour and dont forget to make the wrap of the collar.

Now you are ready to experiment with different hight and forms! Have fun!

It doesnt look right! Common mistakes:

Error 1: The foot came too large for this leg. Always make sure that the length of the Centerline you
draw in STEP 1 is 4x the widht of the leg just over the ankle.
Be careful with the heel and keep it parallel to the floor. Better make it slightly curved inwards than
outwards.

Step 1 Preparation
Start by drawing the arm and the hand of your model . The pose should look relaxed, yet elegant.

Step 2 Guidelines
Draw two parallel lines to mark the width of the bracelet. The bracelet could be thin or thick
depending on your imagination and will.
Tip: If it is not cut from any of the sides, a bracelet should be wider than the hand to be able to pass
through it. Dont draw tha accessories too close to the wrist if you want them to look possible to wear.

Step 3
Close the lines that mark the width to form a rectangular shape.
Draw the inclined lines as show to form little triangles. Make sure the lines end on the same
horizon behind the arm. These are added to increase the 3D effect of the accessory.

Step 4
Curve the guidelines and make the transition between the rectangular shape and the triangles nice and
smooth.

Step 5
Double the already curved lines of the triangles and draw the bracelet profile.
The one used for the example is a simple round bracelet, so the only thing that needs to be done is to
curve the sides of the rectangle.

Step 6 Add some color

The fastest way to color the bracelet is to choose a base color, a darker shade and a lighter one.
Render the bracelet with the base color.
Then, take the darker shade and fill the triangles. As they stand behind they look darker than the rest.
Finlay take the lightest color and fill the center part of the accessory with it. Blend it well.
You could add a little light reflection in one of the sides of the bracelet to help creating the illusion of
wrapping around the arm. Less is more in this case, so use the light wisely.

Bracelet profiles:
There are endless variations of bracelet profiles and forms. Here are some of them:

1)To make a detail part of the bracelet surface when you reach the side end dont draw it all. Make
just half of it and viewers eye will automatically make it go around the corner.
2)If you want to make the detail stand out form the bracelet surface you should draw the whole form (
the first half inside the bracelet and the second half-outside the rectangular shape)
3) Drawing rectangles with an X mark inside and leaving just a triangle in the end will give you that
bad rocker girl look.
4) Remember to make the stripes parallel with the bracelet outline. This means curved like it.
5) A bracelet is nor always necessary round. The profile may change, but the curved triangles used to
gain dimension stay the way that they are.
6) A bracelet made of beads.
7) and 8) Variations of profiles
9)You can add different borders to the bracelet as well.
10) A spiky one.
11) The favorite snake bracelet. This accessorie is drawn after the same logic as described above in the
tutorial. Just theguidelines are thinner and inclined.
Some advices
More bracelets:
When drawing more than one fashion accessories give them the feeling of air and movement. Dont
make them all perfectly aligned.Note how the lines that go out of the arm are not equal from both
sides.

Hand on waist:
Take a closer look at the image and see how every bracelet has its own moment. The ones closer to
the wrist are almost straight. because of the gravity the upper triangles in each bracelet is smaller
than the lower.

Hands up:
When the hands are up the bracelets are falling in a specific way. The ones closer to the wrist are the
most inclined. Note how the guidelines are moving and changing.

Hope this tutorial was useful for you and your fashion designs will have new fabulous accessories from
now on. Enjoy!
Step 1: Set the size
The first thing you need to do when drawing chains is to set the length of the chain and the size of each

link. Start by drawing a Centerline indicating the movement of the chain and divide it in equal parts.

Step 2: Guidelines
The chain links are usually loose enough to rotate around their own axis. Use a pencil and gently mark
ellipses that are all the same length, but have different widths. This is a way to indicate that they are not

fixed in one position but rather turned to various different angles.

Step 3: Links
Draw the inner ellipse of the links. Try to keep the width consistent and dont worry about overlapping. At

this point you should be gently marking with your pencil since all of this will be erased in a later stage.

Step 4: Make it real

In order to draw the chain and make it look realistic you need to bring some 3-dimentionality to your
sketch. To achieve this move the upper right corner of each link up a little bit. The goal is to make the right
side of the Inner ellipse touch the left side of the outside ellipse. Inner right to outer left.
Tip: Keep the width of each link the same as before. You are just moving this segment up a little bit no
other transformations.

Erase the old position of the segment no unnecessary lines.

Step 5: Overlap
The links of the chain are going to look like they are overlapping after this step. The only thing you need
to do is to thicken the lower left side of each link. No moving, no changes. Just fix the place where the

overlapping is happening with your pencil before inking the sketch.

Step 6: Inking
Ink the chain and erase the pencil lines. Pay attention to the overlapping places.

Step 7: Adding shadows

Once you have a finished outlines of the chain element fill it with a color of your choice. For some extra
realism add shadow at the upper left of each link and blend it down. Dont forget the shadow casted by

the overlapping from Step 4.

Step 8: Add highlights

Add some highlights to the right side of each link. Use a white gel pen or pencil for best results. If you
want to draw a golden chain for your accessories and outfits check out the How to draw gold step by

step tutorial.

Experiment with various chain sizes and directions in your fashion sketches. Mix colors and link shapes
have fun drawing your designs and hopefully this how to draw chains tutorial have added to your skills
set!
Step 1 Set the guidelines
Decide where you want to place the belt and how wide it is going to be. Mark it with two parallel lines,
allowing you to go out of the outlines of the fashion figure a little bit.

Step 2 Make it wrap around

To gain the sensations of a realistic belt that wraps proper around the body, curve the lines slightly
according to the volume of the body underneath.
Tip: Depending on the perspective sometimes you will have to curve the lines in other directions. The
point is that you shouldnt leave them absolutely straight, but adjust it thinking of the volume
underneath.
Notice that at the sides the belt goes outside of the models outline. This is because the accessory is
put over the dress and this way you will make the sketch look more realistic and believable.

Step 3 The buckle

Draw the buckle. It could be any form, but I picked the classic square one for this example. The buckle
should be just a hair bigger than the width of the belt.

Spte 4 Overlapping
Erase the part of the buckle that is shown in the illustration and draw the overlapping piece of the
belt. The little arrow shows how you should represent that the overlapping piece is placed over the
belt itself.

Step 5 Drawing the belt holes

Draw some belt holes before and after the buckle. Try not to go too far with them- draw only as much
as you need and try to keep the space between each of them equal.
Make sure you have one of the holes drawn very close to the buckle. Add the tongue that goes over the
buckle.

Step 6
Most of the belts have a belt loop that holds the overlapping piece not to fall down. You can draw that
too. Make sure it wraps around the belt (Step 1 and Step 2).

Step 7 A finished look

Finally add some stitching and if your design requires- draw loops to hold the belt.

This is the very base of drawing belts. Having this in mind now you can go crazy with your designs and
make amazing collections!
Step 1: Shorts folds
Make a basic outline of your design. These shorts are not tight fitting this means that there will be
fabric hanging down. Also notice the direction of leg of the shorts it is slanted because of the pose.
Draw a single fold at the straight leg side keep it small and not very visible. Draw more creases over the
bent leg and make sure they affect the outline of the shorts as well. Most of the folds will be pointing up,
but you should draw one or two pointing down as well.

Finish by adding pockets, belt and other details to your design.

Step 2: Classic pants folds

Draw the outline of the pants and make sure that the bent leg affects the bottom hemline. This way your
fashion sketch looks much more realistic.
Add the same creases as in the Shorts , but this time there will be more folds pointing down. They
always form because the knee pulls the fabric.
Notice the deformation of the outline around the knee the fabric from the back of the knee has nothing
to pull it and it wrinkles.

Add details to the pants to make them not only realistic, but beautiful.

Step 3: Tight fitting pants folds

Drawing folds on skinny pants is a lot of fun. First make sure you leave just a little bit of space between
the leg and the pants outline. Otherwise this would be tights.
All the folds you made for the classic pants apply here too, but they are moreand they look shorter. Notice
that the folds start from about the centerline of the bent leg where the inner seam stands.
The Tight fitting pants often times form creases that look sharper, compared to types of bottom wear.

Add some bleaches and pockets to turn the design into sexy skinny jeans.

4. Harem pants folds

Harem pants are interesting combo between a skirt and tight fitting pants. After you make the outline of
your designs make sure that the folds are longer and softer, compared to all the previous models. You can
make all of the lines little curvier too.

Notice that the knee pulls fabric from the straight leg, as in skirts.

5. Wide pants folds

You might think that wide pants dont form fold and this couldnt be further away from the truth.
Taka a look at the wide pants outline first.
Straight leg: the pants are closer to the leg at the front and they leave much more space at the back.
Bent leg: The bottom hemline is slanted because the knee is pulling the fabric. The area around the back
of the knee is slightly curved, not straight!
Draw the folds as before, but notice that the bent leg hemline forms an S. This is the bid fold, formed
from the knee pulling up.

All the folds above the knee are pointing down; all the folds below the knee goes up.

Hopefully this folds tutorial will help you create amazing pants designs and fashion sketches! Play with
angles and lengths, have fun and enjoy!

Step 1: Button place

Once you have prepared the fashion figure start of by finding a good place for the jacket closing. There
are no strict rules, but in many jackets the first button will be below the chests.

Make sure you place the button on the torso Centerline.

Step 2: Neckline
The jacket neckline is a deep V shape starting from the shoulders and ending close to the button. It
is important to start the V from the place where the neck and the shoulders connect. If this point is
moved out then the jacket will look sloppy and badly tailored.
Draw a vertical line from the right side of the button to indicate the overlapping closure.
Tip: The closure of men and women jackets is differently situated. In womens jackets the overlapping
will be towards the right, is mens towards the left side.

Step 3: More guidelines

Make a horizontal V below the collarbones. This will be your guideline to draw the collar and lapel,
which are the tricky part of jackets. Notice that the lower arm of the V is longer than the upper one.
Starting from the point where the neckline touches the shoulders draw two little triangular shapes.
They indicate that the collar is 3-dimentional and turns around the neck.

Finally add the finishing hem at the bottom on the jacket.

Step 4: Draw the collar and lapel

The collar and the lapels are some of the spots where you can really design and make the jacket look
unique. In the example illustration you will see the classic version, but feel free to design it your own
way.
Make sure that the collar is turning around the neck, as shown, and that the lapels end before they

reach the button.

Step 5: Outlines
You can play with the silhouette and the proportions here. Leaving enough space from all sides when
drawing the outline of the jacket.
Drawing every kind of clothing tight to the body is a common mistake. The body needs air to breath.
Leave enough space, especially when youre designing coats, jackets and pants.

Tip: The clothes might be slim fitting, but this doesnt mean theyre stick to the body. Always leave
some space, except for when youre drawing elastic fabric, leggings and swimsuits.

Step 6: Folds
After youve defined the silhouette its time to draw the folds of the jacket and make it look
believable. Draw wrinkles around the elbow and the waist and dont forget to mark 1-2 lines around

the button. The lines shouldnt be parallel draw them freehand with different lengths.

Step 7: Add the details

This is the stage where the designing comes back. Draw the hems of the jacket in the inner part of the

sleeve, the princess hems, pockets (if any) and additional buttons if you like.

Jackets come in many variations. Playing with the lapels form and the hems you will get different
results every time. Move the closure up or down, make the jacket shorter or longer- its up to your

creativity now.

Dont forget to experiment when drawing your own designs bring a modern silhouette to your clothes
and have fun!

Step 1: Classic collar

Lets start with a very simple, classic collar shape. After you have created the outlines of the blouse
its time to make it look made of fabric, instead of plastic. Look at the outline of the collar. The folds
that youre creating should follow its direction. This blouse is pretty close to the body and the fabric is
stretched. This will affect the folds: they wont be very long and they will be place relatively close to
the shoulders.
Tip: The longer the folds are, the deeper they look. The closer to the center they are, the more heavy
the fabric will appear.

In the last stage draw a little bit outside of the shoulders line. This will give the impression that the
blouse is on another, top layer and is not part of the figure.

Step 2: Polo shirt

The folds on a polo shirt would act a little bit differently. Assuming that the model of the polo is not
very tight to the body you can leave more distance from the shoulders to the beginning of the folds.
Notice how the second fold is not a curved line, but more like waterdrop. This makes it look deeper.
Again, folds follow the collar outline.
Tip: Folds may be in various shapes. They remind straight or curved line: ( | and the letters : Y
V D O. The more opened and curved a fold is, the deeper and bigger it will look.
Since you now have deeper folds this will affect on outline of the collar too. The line wont repeat the
body form, it should be wavy and of course, placed a little bit outside of the neck underneath.

Step 3: Cowl neckline

If you caught the logic in the previous two steps you might already have an idea how to draw a draped
neckline. The folds of such neckline are big and deep. This means that they should start at a bigger
distance from the shoulders and should look more opened. Notice how the folds are not touching
each other and how rich in fold forms the neckline is.Folds follow the collar outline. The volume
created over the shoulders in the last step should be also dramatic draw nice, big waves, since the
folds are deep and they create more relieve on the outline.

Step 4: Accessorized
Lets say you are designing one shoulder top, hold by an accessory. The accessorory is pulling the fabric

and changes the direction of the folds, which would otherwise follow the outline of the collar. Now the
folds are spread like sun rises and their form is thinner in the beginning and more opened in the end.
Draw them in various lengths to make the illustration interesting to look at.
In the 3rd stage the outline is deformed, the waves are intensive, more like zigzag- with constantly
changing size.

Step 5: Sexy and modest

This is a polo made of elastic fabric. This means that its very close to the body and its stretched.
When you draw slim fitting clothes this doesnt save you from drawing the folds. They are just more
delicate and fewer. Draw tiny folds around the collar without pushing too hard with the pencil. Mark at
least one fold from the shoulder and notice how the button is a pressure point-if there wasnt a button
the top would look very different. Emphasize on it.

Step 6: Buttoned up
Here is how you can draw the folds of a shirt or a blouse with buttons. The point where most of the
pressure happens is ,of course, the bottoms. By drawing tiny little folds around them you can show
that. Try not to overwork with these wrinkles, since the blouse will look like 2 sizes smaller than it
should be. Remember always to add volume to the shoulders zone.

Drawing the folds can be a really fun and exciting part of creating your design. Dont miss is just
because you believe its difficult. I hope this tutorial showed you that its not that hard.
Step 1: The base
Start by drawing a nice, curvy female torso. Make sure you make the waistline slightly smaller than
usual, since this is the effect corsets cause. Use the How to draw female torso tutorial to help you.
From the center of the breast pull two vertical lines towards models waist. These are bust
Centerlines.

Draw a horizontal line to mark the bustier top line and mark its bottom line.

Step 2: Corset silhouette

Add dimension to your sketch by perfecting your corsets outlines. Notice how the bottom line is now
slightly curving up and that the corset is outside of the body on the sides.
Change the horizontal line at the bust to a wavy line. The picks of the wave are exactly on bust
Centerlines.
Tip: Designing new silhouettes is the best part of being a fashion designer. Use your imagination to
create interesting top and bottom lines for your collections!

Step 3: Cut it!

Use the bust Centerlines to build the so-called princess seams, that are typical for this kind of outfit.
Follow the changes: the line is moving out, while on the chest. Than it goes slightly in, like the corset
outline does, and at reaching the waistline it goesout again.

Draw two parallel lines between the cheats this is where the corset closing is about to happen.

Step 4: Draw some lacing holes

On the sides of the vertical line you just made start drawing small circles. They represent the holes
that the lacing will go through in order to close the corset.
Make sure the holes are nicely aligned both horizontally and vertically.
Tip: For the sake of better explanation the holes are in different colors. The right side of the lacing
will go through all the blue holes. The left side of the lacing will go through all the red holes.

Draw the first part of the lacing in between the bottom two holes.

Step 5: Right lace

Here is where the magic happens!Starting from the bottom most blue hole move up, using diagonal
lines. You will go through only the blue holes and remember the rule of thumb: Start behind, finish
upfront!
This means that the lacing will start from the vertical line next to hole N1 (creating the illusion it is
behind) and will finish in hole N2 going over the vertical line.

Erase all unnecessary lines.

Step 6: Left lace

Basically the logic is the same as in previous step, except for one little detail. The left part of the
lacing will go under the right one.
Meaning that you should stop, when you reach the already drawn lacing.

Use the same technique as in previous step, but touching only red holes this time.

Step 7: Draw the ribbon

The corset lacing is ready, now its time to draw a beautiful ribbon and clean up your illustration from

unnecessary lines and give it a nice color of your choice.

I hope this step by step tutorial was useful for you, now get inspired and draw some beautiful, sexy
corsets for your fashion portfolio!

Step 1 Draw a trapezoid

Define how long and wide you want the skirt to be by drawing a simple trapezoid. Dont make the slope
too steep.

Step 2 Curve it
Bend the waistline down slightly. Bend the hemline as well, except for the spot over the front leg.
Tip: Always bend the hemline up when its reaching the front leg, this way you show dimension to the
illustration.

Step 3 Ruffle lines

Mark how many ruffle levels. Usually you would want to repeat the way the waistline and the hemline

are moving. But as they are different because of the front leg, try to fade the ruffle levels gradually.

Step 4 Triangles
Draw little triangles at the sides of the skirt as shown on the example illustration.

Step 5 Ruffles
Its time to draw the actual ruffles over the guidelines. See how the ruffles look like waves and begin
from the tip of the triangle and stand equally up and down from guideline. Notice the backside of the

skirt that is visible under the hemline.

Step 6
Now draw the underside of the ruffles.
The ruffles from the left show only the left side of the underside. The ruffles from the right show only

the right side and those in the middle show both.

Step 7 Draw the folds

Its time to draw the folds that the ruffles form. It is important to note that you dont draw the lines

perfectly straight and parallel to each other. It is more as they bend towards their upper part in a

cone-like fashion.
Once you master How to draw ruffles you can apply the technique whenever you like in many different
ways in your fashion illustrations.

Have fun!

It doesnt look right! Common mistakes:

Error 1: The ruffles are not "opened" enough. Make each ruffle wider, especially the upper part.

Error 2: The underlines are not straight. Draw the lines straight and do not join them in the middle
when you have underline from both the right and the left side.

Step 1 A perfect fashion body

Start by chosing an appropriate pose to show the best of your design. Often fashion illustrators would

choose a pose of the model that is showing the side hem of the pants, but here I have picked a front

view walking pose.

Step 2 Design the pants
Draw the trousers with the belt loops, the pockets and the hems that are visible. Leave enough
volume, so that the pants dont look like tights. Even if your are designing a slim fit pants note that

there is still some volume aroud the legs, specially in the lower part of the leg.

Step 3 Draw the folds

Leather pants have very specific folds. Usually they are many and they are sharp and tiny. Draw
horizontal folds that affect the outline of the pants. Pay special attention to the crotch area, around
the knees and in the lower end of the leg. Some of the folds are not horizontal, but slightly tilted -

they should be the exeption, not the rule.

Step 4 The big secret of drawing leather

When you are ready with your design and have drawn the outline you are only half way done. The
rendering of the leather is the really tricky part.
Using a pencil double the contour of the pants, but a few millimeter IN. Note that the contour is not
perfect some parts of it are missing, some are thin, others are thicker. The diversity of the line is

really important! Double some of the main folds as well.

You may want to contour the biggest ones and those around the crotch.

Step 5 Color
Take a black marker and color everything except for the selections you did in the previou step. Erase
the selections and refine with a black pen if needed (close to some smaller folds for example).

Tip: If you have some details of the pants that you dont want to lose (as are the pockets in the
example illustration) just go around, leaving them white. Or you can come back later with a white gel
pen of white guache and draw the details again).

Step 6 Reflections
Leather is a shiny fabric. In order to make it look believable you have to add more reflections to the

pants. Take a light grey colored pencil and draw some highlights in the middle of the legs. Again you

can interupt the highlight.

Using this technique now you can make your fashion illustrations look so rebel, sexy and modern! Have
fun !

Why outlines?

Fashion illustrations need outlines, because without them drawings often look somehow undefined and
unfinished. Outlines help the drawing stands out and keep viewer s attention.

How to begin?
One of the worst things that can ever happen to your illustration is to have it perfectly sketched and at the
moment you begin to colour it the pencil laid below smudges. Ordinary pencils smudge (if you use
markers) or are visible in not a very pleasant way (if you use aquarelle). Thats why I recommend you to
trace the fashion sketch using a tone that even if it smudges it will still look all right like light brown
shades- you still can see the sketch while you render it, but after youre finished there is no ugly, nonerasable grey lines below .

First to color or first to outline the sketch?

Generally speaking, it depends on the case and the media you prefer to use.
I use markers and more frequently its easier to lay down the fill color then to outline the shapes,
compared to trying not to cross the boundaries you have set.
Except for the times you want to be really, really precise with small details for instance, I recommend you

to colour the shape and to outline it later.

What colour should the outline be?

Look around you- is anything outlined in black? Black outline should be applied only to dark grey or black
objects.
For any other case use a colour that is few shades darker than your fill colour. Take a piece of the same
paper you use for the illustration and try on different options before applying the outline to your original
image.

I miss the right colour?

Use the old trick with the greys. A light grey and a dark grey pens are must have for the cases you lack
proper outline colour. The first goes perfectly with white, light blue and green , pink and yellow. The
second one can save you when you miss purple, dark blue and green, brown shades.
Use those wisely and always try the results on a separate piece of paper before applying the colour on
your illustration.

What to use when outlining white?

The best solution that Ive come to is to use a light grey pen. It seems more natural on the paper and you
dont lose the whites lightness as it happens when you outline it with black.

Step 1 Preparation
In the first place you need to draw the legs of your model in the pose that you want them to be.
Sketch the waistline and the hemline.
Noticed how the waist line is slopping? This is because our model is standing on her left leg only.
Tip: Always draw the waistline inclined from the supporting towards the relaxed leg.

Step 2 Add some volume

Even though the fashion figure is really skinny the tummy creates volume that makes the waistline
curve down in that area. Curve it up again when it reaches the supporting leg.Draw parallel lines to
hint the belt and the hem.
Regardless of how skinny the jeans that you are drawing may be, there is always some extra
volume to add around the legs. It may be barely visible, but add it in case you dont want your jeans to
look as stitched tights.

Step 3 The seams of your jeans

Draw the seams following the form of the leg. Mark where the belt loops are going to be.

Step 4 Draw creases and folds

Tip: Drawing the creases and folds of a clothing is crucial in order to make one fashion illustration look
professional and well done.
The creases around the crotch have to be drawn like this: those of the supporting leg go up, and those
of the relaxed one are curved around the leg.
The knee creases: those of the supporting leg are just over and under the knee, as its the most
bulging part of the body there. The creases of the relaxed leg are radial as shown.

There are also some small folds in the bottom of the jeans.
Draw the pockets and the closing.

Step 5 Touch realistic looks

The folds affect also the outline of the clothes. Crinkle the outline everywhere you have creases.
To create the illusion of wrapping around make the size of the belt loops bigger and let the belt itself
wrap the body adding volume from the sides.
Draw the button of the jeans.

Step 6 Details
Here you give your jeans stitching around the pockets and the seams.
Draw the button hole adding just two little dashes and dont forget the little pocket, that is so, so
typical for jeans.

Be creative and design your own collection of jeans! Take this base and work on the details- buttons,
stitching and pockets. If you dont feel sure about drawing denim fabric check out the How to draw
denim tutorial.

Step 1: Fill in with base color

Start by drawing your fashion design and coloring it in a light beige color. The traditional burberry

check pattern is on beige base, but if you feel like experimenting you can try different colors and see
how this works for you.

Step 2: Add some shadows and highlights

Next its time to give your design some dimension. You want to decide where the shadows go before
introducing the plaid, which often times can flatten the drawing.
Draw the shadows using a darker shade at the places where the light doesnt reach. The How to draw
skin shadows tutorial will give you an idea where you should place the shadows.

Tip: Changing the color of the outline from black to brown will make your sketch look less harsh. Black
outlines not only look unrealistic, but they also steal the attention from the more important content
our check plaid in this case.

Step 3: Draw vertical red lines

Draw double vertical lines using a red color. Notice how big the distance between the double lines is.
You want to make sure that you change the direction of the lines for each garment part (e.g. the
sleeves, the collar). This will help for not losing the details of your design.

Tip: Where there are folds make the lines curve a bit. Curve the lines to show the volume of the
breasts and the hips too.

Step 4: Draw horizontal red lines

Draw horizontal double lines. The blank space between the vertical and the horizontal lines should be
in the shape of a square. Notice that the horizontal lines are parallel to each other but they are not

necessary perfectly aligned to the hemline. They are gently curving around the body instead.

Step 5: Draw vertical white stripe

Draw a semi-transparent stripe between the vertical lines. You can use color pencils (without pushing
too much) or tempera paint with more water to get the effect.

Make sure the stripes are the right size- not too wide, nor too narrow.

Step 6: Add horizontal white stripe

Continue with the horizontal stripes.
For this type of plaid pattern it is important to make darker the place where the horizontal and the
vertical stipe overlap.

Step 7: Dark lines

Draw vertical dark lines over the white stripes. Pick a dark gray or dark brown color instead of black
since you want to be able to go darker when they cross with the horizontal ones.

Notice that the dark lines are equal in width and evenly distributed.

Step 8: Overlapping dark lines

The last step of drawing the burberry check are the horizontal dark lines. Make sure the spots where

they are overlapping the vertical ones are darker.

Step 9: Optional: shadows again

At this point it is very possible that some of the shadows you made in Step 2 are already lost. If

necessary go over the shadows again and emphasize the volume.

The burberry check pattern is a beautiful addition to your stylish designs. Change the colors and you
will have a different type of plaid. Incorporate it in a smart and fun way in your fashion sketches and
have fun!

Step 1 Base color

Including all the details, draw the garment you want to make look like its made of denim. Denim
clothes are usually stiff and when you draw the folds make sure they dont look too soft.

Lay down the first layer of color. The final version of the jacket will get much darker, so pick a light
blue for base.
Tip: The technique described in this tutorial can be applied to every single color in the palette. It is
absolutely not obligatory to use blue as base color for your denim drawing.

Step 2 Shadows
Draw the shadows using a second layer of the same color or a slightly darker shade. Normally the
clothes create shadows where there are creases or one surface is in front of another ( see the pocket).

Also notice how the color of the collar changes in depth. The same happens with the sleeve.

Step 3 Add some texture

Start adding narrowed lines all over the fabric. Make sure that the lines look organized and follow the
same direction. It is best to use a color pencil in a very similar shade to the base color.

Step 4 Even more texture

In the places where there are shadows repeat the process, but using black/dark grey color pencil. For
the places you think are brighter use a white pencil.
Tip: Color pencils are good to represent denim in fashion sketches, because they already have the
crispy texture we are looking for.
Try not to overwork your drawing with black and white lines. If you do so, erase the unnecessary ones.

Step 5 A realistic denim fabric

Take your white pencil again and this time make strong vertical bleached effects. They are supposed
to hint where the jeans clothes are worn-out. Put those only where the volume of the body is the most
bulged.

Step 6 Add some details to those clothes

Find an orange or brownish shade that will overlay the base color of the jeans and underline the
stiches. This is very specific for jeans. Color the buttons and if you have any other details.

Step 7 Smoother
You already have it done, but if the fabric looks too sharp for your taste I recommend you to take a
paper blender and go over some parts of the sketch. This will give nice polished look of your fashion
drawing.

Have fun experimenting with denim fabrics in your designs!

Step 1 Base color
Start by laying down a flat color all over your design. You dont need to make the color appear

perfectly flat, just cover the whole area you are planning to draw the sequins.

Step 2 Drawing the sequins rows

Next draw the sequins. Find a pen in a little bit darker shade and cover like 1/2 of the fabric with
interceding circles. Notice that the rows of sequins are not from the top of the dress to its hemline.
Sequins are drawn here and there just to hint the impression of such fabric.

Step 3 Adding highlights

Now add with white gel pen (or gouache) the highlights. Use the same technique of building the
sequins row as in the previous step.
Cover no more than 1/4 of the fabric with white sequins or it will look very unrealistic in the end.
Tip: Even if you are drawing a black sequin dress I would still recommend you to draw the highlights in
pure white. Sequins have high contrast and using the pure white helps you represent it.

Step 4 Brighter!
Fill some of the white sequins. Maybe the first one or two of each row.
You can also draw some glittering stars to make the impressions of sequins fabric even stronger.

Step 5 Blend it
Using a white pencil try to blend some of the sequins rows. Pick rows that are already close to each
other and concentrate only on one of the sides of the dress. Again you dont want to overwork it!

Step 6 Draw the shadows

Finally take a pencil that is a few tones darker than your base color and mark some random darker
rows.
You can also use it to add volume to your design (e.g. under the breast and in the deepest folds
usually)

I hope you liked this sequins tutorial and that many gorgeous party dresses are about to appear in your
sketchbook!
Step 1 Base colour
First thing you need to do is to find a darker than the skintone colour and render the fabric with it.
Tip: If you cant find a proper shade just add a little bit of black to your skintone colour and use it to
colour the clothes you want.

Step 2 Shadows
Lay down some shadows to give your illustration more dimension. Draw the shadows as if your model
was not wearing any clothes.

Step 3 The mesh

Draw net mesh all over the place where the lace is going to be. For best results use a well-sharpened
pencil.

Step 4 Lace ornaments

The lace pattern should follow the diagonal direction of the mesh. Try to leave equal space between
the ornaments and put the next row of pattern as shown in the picture (every ornament lays in the
middle of the space between those above it )
You shouldnt worry about making all of the figures exactly the same size and form. Just think of easy
to repeat pattern and allow yourself to make some variations of it.

Step 5
Ink with black the ornaments. Dont forget to play with the width of the lines!

Step 6
Use the pencil again and draw small crosses between the ornaments. Again follow the mesh directions.

Step 7
Attached some leaves to the ornaments. Fill about 2/3 of leaf body with black ink.
Tip: Most of the lace fabrics have some kind of floral motives. However, if you dont like flowers for
any reason feel free to experiment with abstract forms on your liking.

Step 8
Use dots for the contour of the leaves. This will add a lot of lace sensation to your drawing.

Step 9 The endings

Draw half-circles to cover the end of the lace. I make the outline double for a more complete look.

Step 10
Put a X in every semicircle. Let it overshoot the borders of the circle.

Step 11

Finish by drawing small dots on top of the X marks and a wavy line a bit higher.

Step 1: How to draw the folds

Different fabrics behave in different ways and the first step when drawing silk or satin is to make sure the
folds are looking correct. Very specific for these textiles is that they form big folds that fall heavily, but also
they create a lot of small creases in the pressure points. When drawing silk and satin make sure you
include all these types of folds: 1. The returning type (collars, around crotch areas); 2. Many, small
and angular folds (usually around waistline) 3. Big, heavy folds (usually in the lower part of the

dress). The How to draw folds: series will help you find the right place for them.

Step 2: Paint the base color

For the base color pick something that is slightly darker than the final result you are looking for. Use
markers, tempera of watercolors to make the base as flat and even as you can. Do NOT use color pencils

for this step.

Step 3: Finding shapes

Even if you are not familiar with lightning and shadows you will be able to set the lighter parts of the
design using the technique from How to draw gold tutorial. Here is how it works: Imagine that you are
building your design out of clay like if it was a sculpture. The light goes to the parts where you are moving
your hands towards yourself- the most bulged ones. Use a soft pastel and mark these areas gently. Be

careful not to overwork it though you want to keep about half of the original base color untouched.

Tip: The highlight color needs to be to be a lot brighter and more saturated than the base. Avoid using
pure white and go for bright yellow (green, orange, brown fabrics) bright pink ( red, purple, magenta
fabrics) and sky blue for navy fabrics like in the example above.
Step 4: Blending
Blending is essential step when drawing silk and satin fabrics. Use your fingers or preferably a q-tip to
blend the pastel. Try not to exceed the original proportion and size you have set in step 3. Erase if you

notice that more than of the design is in this soft, blended shade.

Step 5: Add some magic!

Now is where the real fun begins. Use the same bright soft pastel and draw another layer of highlight .
Make sure you stay in the borders of the blended tone from Step 3. Dont forget to mark all the folds
too vertical and horizontal.
Tip: Satin and silk tend to form angular looking folds and creases. Avoid making them look too soft and
flowing while coloring. Keep that edge!

Step 6: More blending

Gently blend what you have from the previous step and make sure the second layer of light is clearly

visible everywhere on the dress. Look at the chest area and each and every fold you have. Again - you
dont want to cover more than of the dress with light.

Step 7: Shadows
Satin and silk are fabrics of huge contrast. They have soft, blended highlight areas and solid, strong dark
areas. Use a black soft pastel to mark the darkness in your sketch. Fill close to the outlines, close to each

and every fold and wherever your artists sense tells you to. Get creative, have some fun!

Step 8: Real shadows

Blend gently the black soft pastel from the previous step. Make sure the shadows dont occupy the
whole base color that you had left. Less is more in this case.
After blending use a black color pencil and emphasize the areas that feel the most deep and dark to you.
Use the imaginary clay sculpture technique if you hesitate where these places are. The more you dig in
the sculpture the darker the shadow gets.

Add a third layer of light. Smaller and brighter than the last ones, right in their center.

Step 9: Finishing touches

By now you should have a pretty realistic looking drawing of silk/ satin fabric. It is time to make some
extra blending and its ready to go. Continue building up highlights until they look soft, blended and
brighter in the middle. Dont lose the edges of the folds while coloring. Blend until its perfect and then

clean up your sketch if it looks messy outside of the design outlines.

The center of the satin highlights is a much brighter and more saturated color compared to the base. Here
is a color chart that should help you with your colors choise:

Hopefully this How to draw silk and satin tutorials was helpful to you and have inspired you to draw new
fashion sketches, to create more innovative designs!

Step 1: The color of your fabric

The first thing you need to do when drawing chiffon or other type of transparent fabric is to decide on its
color. See-through materials will show whats underneath, but will change its color.
Start by coloring the areas that are NOT covered by the chiffon. If the chiffon is light prepare a lighter
shade of the skintone and the clothes color. If the chiffon is dark prepare darker shade of the skintone

and the clothes.

Step 2: Color the areas covered by the chiffon

Start coloring the areas that are underneath the sheer fabric. Make sure you arenot filling them in all
the way to the edge. Its okay if the coloring isnt perfectly smooth at this point. You can play with the
direction of your strokes as long as you stay in the outlines.

Step 3: Color the chiffon fabric

With the color youve picked gently mark the folds of the chiffon.
If you are not sure where to place them check out the How to draw folds: pants,How to draw folds:
collar and the rest of the series in the How to draw CLOTHES tab.

It is important not to outline the sheer fabric or fully fill it with color at this point. You want to just gently
brush trough some areas and nothing more.

Step 4: Add another layer

Grab s lighter shade of your chiffon color and add some more strokes. The opacity should be greater
close to the outline and getting lighter towards the inside. Take your time to make the transitions smooth
and nice and try not to cover all the white spaces left from Step 2.

Step 5: Add some pastel

Use a soft pastel and carefully fill in almost the whole chiffon fabric. Leave empty spaces here and there

and dont make this layer too opaque. You want to place less amount of the pastel at the areas where
you see only the sheer fabric and nothing underneath.
Tip: For best results use your fingers (or a cotton swab) to take small amount of the pastel and gently
smudge over your design.

Step 6: Add depth

Its time to add some shadows and definition to your sheer garment. Use a pencil and go back to the folds
to draw shadowed areas where you think they should be. Also emphasize the outlines underneath the
chiffon in case they have disappeared. Dont overwork it less is more when drawing transparent

materials.

Step 7: Outlines
As you know from the Outlines: part I tutorial, a fashion sketch would look unfinished and fuzzy if you
skip the outlining. Always use a shade slightly darker than you original tone and outline everything except
for the areas underneath the chiffon.

Tip: Outline the chiffon itself but leave the skin and clothes underneath as they are. This way they will
look blurred and softer helping you to create the illusion of a transparent textile.

This technique can be used with any type of drawing material. Experiment with watercolors, markers,
acrylics or anything that you like working with. Have fun drawing your new sheer designs!

Step 1: Color the skin

The first thing you need to do is to fill your fashion figure with a solid skintone color. It could be
brighter or darker, depending on your personal preferences. Just make sure the rendering is flat, with
no gaps.
This coloring technique can be applied to almost every type of drawing media. You only need to get a
skin color that you like and to follow the steps.
Tip: If you want to follow along and use the fashion template of the example illustrations click HERE to
open and download it.

Step 2: Draw the face shadows

Fill the area between the eyes and the eyebrows with a darker shade of the skin color. Make the same
with the space below the nose tip, the lips, cheekbones and the inner part of the ear if it is visible.
Notice the tiny shadow that is left at the side of the forehead and the very important shadow that the
hair casts, because it is overlapping the face of the model.
Tip: For fashion illustrations you dont need too dramatic shadows. Usually runway shows and magazine
photo sessions are very well lightened and only the most essential shadows are kept visible.

Step 3: Face highlights

Once you are done with drawing the skin shadows its time to make some highlights. Take a white
pencil or gauge paint and fill the areas shown. These are: the most bulged parts of the cheeks and the
chin, a tiny circle of light on the tip of the nose and a dash of white on the bridge. Dont forget the
forehead area over the brows.
All the highlights should be gently blended with the skin color if they look like having very sharp
boundaries. Make it look natural.

Step 4: Draw the neck shadows

The shadows underneath the head is a must. Make sure you follow more or less the form of the chin

and make this shadow wide enough. Draw some shadows around the collar bones of your fashion figurethis will make her look more skinny. However, if you overwork this area it is going to look not healthy
and scary. Try to find the proper balance.

Step 5: Neck highlights

Emphasize that the neck is a cylindrical shape by putting a highlight by one of its sides. Finish the
collar bones and highlight the shoulders.
Tip: Close your eyes slightly and look at your drawing. Check If the main color you see is the one of the
skin. If its not, and you still can see a lot of the shadows and highlights- you have overworked it.

Step 6: How to draw chest shadows

One of the most frequent mistakes when drawing the chest is to cast the shadow under, while shadows
are actually placed on the breasts. There is still a small amount of shadow underneath, but if you want
to draw them looking real the shadows should be drawn more or less like shown on the example
illustration.
Darken the area of the armholes and blend it with the rest of the skin.
You can also cast delicate shadows on the torso details if you like to have them in your fashion
drawings.

Step 7: Chest highlights

Draw the highlights only at their upper half of the chests. Keep the shape of the highlights rounded,
curved and relatively small.

Add light to the torso details as shown.

Step 8: Shadows on the arms

Arms in fashion are not very detailed when it comes to rendering the skin. Just cast a shadow following
the outline of the arm from its part closer to the body.
Tip: Try not to touch the outline with your shadow tone, but still keep the shadow very close to it. This
will help you build more 3D look of your drawing. Goes the same for legs and arm.

Step 9: Highlights of the arms

Make the same as in the previous step, but with the opposite side of the arms. Make sure you have
enough base color skin between the shadows and the light.

Step 10: Draw the legs shadows

Next comes drawing shadows on the legs. Look how they kind of repeat the outline of the leg, but the
shadow gets a little bit thinner when reaching the knee area. Cast tiny, short shadows in the highest
inner part of the tights and around the bone of the calves if you like to have it drawn.

Step 11: Legs highlights

In order to make it look realistic you need to add highlights too. Work on the inner part of the tights,

the knee and a little bit on the calves. Dont touch the outline.

Step 12: Draw shadows to the hands and feet

Hands and feet in fashion illustrations are very specific. They have very few detail. Cast shadows to the
bottom part of the fingers if they are clenched or if there are fingers behind others. A little bit on the
knuckles too.
As for the feet- just continue the shadows the way you made the legs.

Step13: Hands and feet highlights

Highlight slightly the opposite side of the palm and also the finger knuckles.
Continue the highlight from the legs to the feet. Make sure you are following the form, and not drawing

it straight.

Now you know how an easy way how to draw the skin for your fashion sketches. Finish the coloring of

your illustration and give her (or not) some clothes.

Step 1: Draw your design

Draw your fashion sketch with a pencil. Make sure that the line is not very dark and visible - you need

it soft and semitransparent when drawing white fabrics.

Step 2: Define the shading

Decide where are the places you will draw the shadows and wrinkles of the clothes when using the
Clay method. In this case this is under the breasts and at the torso outlines. The shadows will also
contour the skirt folds.
Tip: "Clay method" is when you close your eyes and imagine you were creating the dress out of clay.
The places where you move your handsAWAY from you are the shadows and those places where you
move your hands IN - are the highlights.

Step 3: First layer shadows

Put a second layer of very light gray over the spots you defined in step 2. This shade layer should make
the pencil outlines much thicker - as shown in the picture below.Shadows will be similar as in How to
draw skin shadowstutorial.

Make sure you dont outline the lower hem of the skirt, but only around the folds.

Step 4: Second layer

Lay down another shadows layer. This one is following the previous layer, but will be smaller,
contracted. Fill the folds around the waist and contour the skirt folds. Notice that the collar is also

casting shadows.

Step 5: Last shadows layer

This is the darkest layer. The color should be medium gray. If you go darker the final result may look as
a gray dress, instead of white one. Be very delicate with this layer and make only few short lines

dont try to outline the whole initial sketch.

Step 6: Blend
Use the lightest shade possible to blend everything together. If youre working with watercolor use

pure water. This should give a finished look to your fashion sketch and blend all the edges.

This Drawing white technique can be applied to all drawing medias from markers to pencils and
watercolor. What is rest for you is to create your collection of unique wedding gowns and beautiful

white garments!

Step 1: Thinking in advance

Markers are a permanent media. This means that once its laid down the color cant be taken back and
you are unable to cover it with a lighter shade. This is the reason you need to think of the lightest
areas first. Grab a pencil and mark the light spots pressing very gently- the pencil lines should not be
visible later.

If you havent decided on the direction of the light just mark the most bulged out areas.

Step 2: Base color layer

Start coloring the areas around the lightest spots. In order to fill everything with a nice, flat layer of color
render the large spaces first and then fill in the parts that are closer to the ends.
Tip: For best results move the marker in circular motion this will prevent your sketch from getting
unwanted white gaps.

Step 3: First shadows layer

After you have the base color blocking of your fashion illustration you can move to creating the shadows.
In general these are the parts of your sketch that are either overlapping or are sinking volumes placed
deeper in the surface of the illustration. Check out the How to draw skin shadows tutorial to
understand more about the placement of the shadows.
Remember to draw the shadows as shapes. Outline the shape of a shadow and then fill it in. The
color needs to be few shades darker than the base tone and preferably cooler. The sunlight is warm and
the shadows- cool.

Step 4: Second shadows layer

Your fashion sketches will look much more alive and dramatic if you add an extra layer of shadow.
This one is darker than the first shadows drawn, but be careful- you dont want to make the contrast with
the base tone too visible.
Place the second shadows layer at the spots where there is the most overlapping or depth. Again avoid

blending, but rather draw the shadows as nice and smooth shapes.

Step 5: Outlines
The fashion illustration might look not polished enough and somehow unfinished without outlining. Outline
each color with a thin line of slightly darker tone. Use black to outline dark brown and gray if you miss a
better color choice. Check the tutorial Outlines part 1 for more details about outlining your artwork and

some useful tips.

Step 6: Color variation

Fashion sketches that are colored using markers can be quite interesting with their clean color statement.
However, if the result is too contrasting for your taste take a lighter shade than your base tone and start
blending gently the base to the pure white. Remember to leave some white space in the center of each
highlight.
Use color pencils or pastels to add blush, eyeshadows and details to the design.

Markers are a wonderful media for coloring fashion sketches. It doesnt take long to master the technique
and your designs will look professionally made. Have fun and dont forget to experiment!

The markers brand that I use is Copic Markers .
