PURSUING INTIMACY WITH GOD ANTIDOTE TO LUKEWARMNESS

Revelations 3:14-20

14 "To the angel of the church in Laodicea write:

The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of
God, says this:
15 'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you
were cold or hot.16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold,
I will spit you out of My mouth.17 Because you say, "I am rich, and have
become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you
are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked,18 I advise you to
buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white
garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your
nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that
you may see.19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be
zealous and repent.20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone
hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with
him, and he with Me
How is your relationship with God?

Is it Hot, Lukewarm or Cold?

Here are three types of Lukewarm Christians: (can you relate?)
Sunday Christians Someone who has supposedly surrendered his or her life to Christ, but
doesnt see their faith as a relationship with the Lord but rather as a Christian religion to hide
their lack of faith, immoral actions and social misdeeds.
The Antidote - 2Corinthians 11:3
But I fear that somehow your pure and undivided devotion to Christ will be corrupted, just as Eve
was deceived by the cunning ways of the serpent.
Do you only go to church on Sunday, telling yourself that this is what God wants and it is enough.

Secret Agent Christian Someone who avoids letting anyone at work or in society, know that he or
she is a Christian. Usually he or she is ashamed or afraid to profess his or her faith.
Fence Sitting Christian Someone sitting on the sidelines, seeing things knowing what to do, but
not wanting to be involved.

The Antidote - Matthew 5:14-16

14 You are the light of the worldlike a city on a hilltop that cannot be
hidden.15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a
lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that
everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Often people start to lose touch with God when they gain wealth, new position in life, power,
ego or pride and other distractions
How do you prevent this from happening to you?
God wants you to be close to him.
Discussion:
Which are you of the three Christians?
How do you make sure you dont fall into one of the categories?
How is your quiet time?

To make sure you are constantly checking to make sure you have not gone
Lukewarm or Cold towards God ask yourself the following questions?

1. Are you thinking more about life on earth than eternity?

2. Are your Tithes given out of your leftovers?
3. Are you taking Gods blessings for granted?
4. Do you have an entitlement mentality?
5. Are you seeking self-glory and peoples approval more than Gods glory and approval?
6. Are you rarely (or never) sharing the Gospel?
7. Saying we believe in God, but not striving to know Him
8. Are you blending into the world instead of making a difference?
9. Do you have a critical or complaining attitude?
10. Doing Christian routines with no zeal/passion
ANTIDOTE
Love God with all of our heart, mind soul and strength. Matthew 22:36:38

36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"37 And He said

to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR
HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'38 This is the
great and foremost commandment.Love God as a child does. Matthew 19:14
But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming
to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
