Foreword
The Prostitution Intervention Project is an exit program for women and teens exiting
prostitution and other forms of commercial sexual exploitation. This program was
developed as a way to most effectively and efficiently provide all the resources necessary
for someone to escape prostitution and develop alternatives to this life, as well as to
create opportunities for the community to take ownership in the problem and in the
solutions.
Through the Prostitution Intervention Project this has been achieved. The phenomenal
success of this program is attributed to the combined efforts and contributions received
from the community, the clients of Sisters Offering Support and the many survivors of
prostitution. These people provided feedback and input from the planning stages of the
program to the actual curriculum development.
The Training Manual was created to help professionals to understand the victimology of
prostitution in order to better serve their clients and to help governmental and nongovernmental organizations expand and improve their services to prostituted women and
adolescents.
Segments of this manual, particularly sections 2 4, include excerpts adapted from The
Paul & Lisa Program, Inc., Holistic Health Education Program, which is a communitycourt intervention program for prostituted women. Being that our fundamental
philosophies, understanding and approaches to this population are similar, we wanted to
incorporate their great efforts.
Technical Assistance and on-site trainings are available by both the Paul & Lisa Program
and Sisters Offering Support to train professionals and to implement the concept of the
program.
To order the Prostitution Intervention Projects complete curriculum or to request
technical assistance in implementing the program, contact Sisters Offering Support.
