EXPERIMENT H1 : HYDROSTATIC FORCE

OBJECTIVE :

/ 10
/ 10
/ 10

i) To understand the concepts of hydrostatic forces acting on submerged bodies

ii) To verify the location of center pressure
iii) To determine the magnitude and position of hydrostatic forces from observed data and
comparing them with theoretical values

D) DATA EVALUATION
1. Additional or Final Computation

Percentage Error = (10 - 8.58) /10 x 100

= 14.2

2. Experimental Findings and Verifications of Objectives

a. Discuss the percentage of error for both partially immersed and fully immersed plate
(Calculate the average value of percentage)

3. Response to the Experimental Findings

i) Explain why are there differences between the resultant force and (theoretical) hydrostatic force.
(Discuss the factors that may affect your experiment result)

ii) State some examples of the practical applications of hydrodtatic forces in civil engineering. Discuss

4. Concluding the Experiment.

This experiment was conducted to determine the magnitude and position of hydrostatic force from the
observed data and comparing them with theoretical values. From the experiment that have been done,
we can conclude that the experiment was successfully carried out even though there is difference in
the theoretical value and experimental value. There is no relative motion between the fluid particles.
The only stress will be normal stress which equal to the pressure. There are some errors that take place
during conducting this experiment which may give effect to the result obtained. First, there is parallax error.
