Mission Statement
Our mission is to enrich the lives of the residents
of Hillsborough by providing safe, welcoming
parks and recreation facilities and affordable,
diverse recreation and social activities for people
of all ages and abilities to play, learn,
comtemplate, build community, and be good
stewards of our environment.

Inclusive Recreation Information

Supervision
Parents or guardians of minors are responsible
for dropping off and picking up their children
promptly at the facility.

The Hillsborough Department of Parks and


Recreation is committed to an inclusive
approach to recreation. Inclusion is indviduals
with and without disabilities participating in
recreation activities together.

Eligibility
All township residents are eligibile to participate
in all programs, assuming the participant meets
the age or grade criteria outlined. Where
available, non-residents may participate in
certain programs for an additional fee.
Financial Assistance
The Department of Parks and Recreation offers
reduced fee registration for children who are
eligible under the guidelines of the Federal
Subsidized Lunch Program. Please call our
office for information prior to registration.
Communication
Closing notifications and cancellations due to
inclement weather will be posted on our website,
Facebook, and Twitter pages.

In order for individuals with disabilities to


participate as fully as possible, reasonable
accommodations are provided. These are
individualized techniques and resources used to
enhance program participation without
fundamentally altering the program. Inclusion
makes it possible for individuals to choose from
the vast array of programs offered by the

Refund Policy
The Department of Parks and Recreation
reserves the right to cancel, alter, supplement,
limit registration or change any dates, times,
locations, ages, fees or any other information
listed. There will be NO REFUNDS of any
registration fees unless the program is canceled
by the department.

Therapuetic Recreation Partnership


We have a cooperative agreement with the Somerset
County Park Commission's Therapeutic Recreation
Department (TR) to provide lesiure and recreation
opportunities for children and adults who have a
developmental disability. We and TR recognizes the
need for all individuals to participate actively in
recreational and lesiure activities to promote health,
fitness, and well-being. More information on TR is

Family fun! Open to all ages! Walkers are welcome.

Special Events

The second annual Run Around the Park is a noncompetitive, recreational, fun run/walk around Ann
Van Middlesworth Park. The course will be through
the park. Sign up as an individual, or get a group of
friends together and come as a team! After the run,
join us for breakfast and music!

Recreation Summer Camps

Extended Camp: August 17 - 28
Summer Day Camps are offered for children
ages 5 to 14. Tiny Camp is a half day program
offered to children ages 4 and 5.

An introduction to the fundamentals of golf. Stance,
grip, alignment, putting, chipping, iron play, sand
play, and driving will all be taught. Basic rules and
etiquette will also be covered. This program is
designed for the beginner player.

An introductory soccer league for children. Sessions
will be held on Saturdays in the morning or early
afternoon. Teams will practice for approximately 30
minutes and a short modified game will follow. This
program ends May 16.
Location: Flagtown Annex
Fee: $70.00

Kindergarten - 2nd Grades


Emphasis on fundamentals through practices and
game play. Teams practice for one hour followed by
a one hour, small-sided game. Sessions held on
Saturdays with an optional additional training session
during the week.

1st & 2nd Grade: 9:30am - 11:30am

3rd Grade - 12th Grades


Leagues are split as follows: 3rd & 4th; 5th & 6th; 7th

Leagues will be divided by grade level. As girls


get older, additional skill sets will be taught and
reinforced. Younger leagues will have practices
throughout the season in addition to games.

Games are played at the outdoor courts at Ann
Van Middlesworth Park on Tuesday and
Thursday evenings. Times will be between
6:00pm and 9:00pm.
The leagues will be divided into Intermediate (5th
and 6th grade) and Middle (7th and 8th grade).

Entering grades 4-9 in 2015-2016
Games are played at the outdoor courts at Ann
Van Middlesworth Park on Monday and
Wednesday evenings. Times will be between
6:00pm and 9:00pm.
The leagues will be divided into Rookie (4th and
5th grade), Intermediate (6th and 7th grade) and
Middle (8th and 9th grade). Depending on
enrollment, these leagues may restructure.

Swim Lessons
Our swim lessons are an excellent way to get your child acquainted with the water. Qualifed and
enthusiastic instructors from the Hillsborough YMCA teach your child the skills needed to be a
successful swimmer. With a small instructor to student ratio and different levels of classes, each
child will learn new skills quickly.

Beginner

Age: 6 months to 36 months

Age: 3 to 5 years

For the little fish in your life. Basic skills are taught to
children to help them adjust to the aquatic
environment so they become comfortable in the
water. The learning process is directed through the
parents, and parents or guardians are expected to be
in the pool with their child.

Children will learn basic water skills including water


entries, water adjustment, assisted floats and glides,
and possibility for introduction to the front and back
crawl. Each session includes skills pertaining to the
ability of the child.

Safe water entry, comfort in the water, swimming


safety, front and back floats, and submerging the
face in the water are all aspects of this level.

Swim Lessons

This class builds on skills learned at the beginner
level, but first-time students are always welcome.
Children will learn to tread water, turn over while
floating, swim on front, and water safety. Instruction
will be tailored to the abilities of the children in the
class.

Swim Lesson Information


The session starts on April 13 and runs through June 21. There will be no classes on May 25 (Memorial Day).
Monday classes have 9 meetings; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday classes have 10 meetings.
To keep instructor to child ratios low, each class has a maximum enrollment limit. Please register early to
guarantee your spot in the class you wish.
Classes are conducted in the therapy pool at the Hillsborough YMCA.

Tennis Lessons
This spring, we will be offering tennis lessons for children and adults. Get a head start on learning or tuning
up your game for the summer. These classes are offered at a variety of ability levels. Taught in small
groups, participants in these classes are guaranteed plenty of instruction and activity throughout each class.
Please bring a racket. If you do not have a racket, there will be rackets for you to try before purchasing one.

Adult Lessons

These group lessons focus on fundamentals of tennis


and familiarity with equipment and the basic ground
strokes (forehand, backhand, volley, and serve).

For five to eight year olds, the focus on this class is


fun! Featuring small groups in a high energy class,
children will be begging to play more tennis. Along
with tennis skills, children will learn sportsmanship,
cooperation, fundamental movement, and respect
to the courts and others.

More advanced instruction is also offered at these


classes for experienced players.
Instructors can accommodate beginner, intermediate,
and advanced players.
