HSBC Passport is designed to meet all

With HSBC Passport, youll receive a fully
functional debit card, allowing you 24-hour
access to your money. Youll also be able
to choose exactly how you control
your money at our branches by phone
or via the internet, enjoy competitive rates

HSBC Passport has an initial fixed term
of 12 months and is renewable monthly
afterwards. HSBC Passport currently has
an 8 per month fee. After 12 months
youll have the option to stay with HSBC

Its perfect for those new to the UK as

save. Youll receive a paper statement
every 6 months and you can keep track
of your account online or over the phone.
From time to time, we also offer Regular
Saver accounts which allow you to save
from as little as 25 a month by standing
order for a fixed term of 12 months.
The monthly subscription limit is 250.
However if you do not save the maximum
250 in any given month, you can carry
over any unused subscription to the
following months. Regular savers can save

Getting started is easy


We just need to confirm who you are and where youve come from. We will need you to
bring in one form of identification and one non-UK address verification to your local branch.

Once your account has been opened, the following will occur:

We are required by law to tell you that the
terms and conditions are in English and we
will communicate with you in English.
We are covered by the Financial Services
Compensation Scheme (FSCS). The FSCS can
pay compensation to depositors if a bank is
unable to meet its financial obligations. Most
depositors including most individuals and
small businesses are covered by the scheme.

In respect of deposits, an eligible depositor is


entitled to claim up to the current FSCS limit
for deposits. For joint accounts each account
holder is treated as having a claim in respect
of their share so, for a joint account held by
two eligible depositors, each depositor would
have a separate claim up to the FSCS deposit
limit and so the maximum amount that could
be claimed in total would be twice the current
FSCS deposit limit. The FSCS deposit limit
relates to the combined amount in all the
eligible depositors accounts with the bank,
including their share of any joint account, and
not to each separate account.
First Direct and HSBC are both trading names
of HSBC Bank plc and customers who hold
deposits under both trading names will only
be eligible for one claim of up to the FSCS
deposit limit in total.

Deposits made with our branches in the Channel
Islands and the Isle of Man are not protected by
the rules made under the UKs Financial Services
and Markets Act 2000 for the protection of
retail clients, including the UK Financial Services
Compensation Scheme and the Financial
Ombudsman Service. In Jersey, HSBC Bank Plc
is a participant in the Jersey Banking Depositor
Compensation Scheme. The Scheme offers
protection for eligible deposits of up to 50,000.
The maximum total amount of compensation
is capped at 100,000,000 in any 5 year period.
Full details of the Scheme and banking groups
covered are available on the States of Jersey
website or on request. In Guernsey, HSBC Bank
plc is a participant in the Guernsey Banking
Deposit Compensation Scheme established
by The Banking Deposit Compensation
Scheme (Bailiwick of Guernsey) Ordinance,
2008. Deposits made with our branches in the
Isle of Man are protected by the Isle of Man
Compensation of Depositors Regulations 2010.

If you have a complaint please let your


local branch manager or the manager of
the department concerned know. We will
endeavour to resolve your concerns and put
matters right. If your complaint is not settled
to your satisfaction you may be able to refer
it to the Financial Ombudsman Service in the
UK, the Financial Services Commissions in
Jersey or Guernsey and the Financial Services
Ombudsman Scheme for the Isle of Man.

Passport
This brochure only sets out a summary of
HSBC Passport. HSBC Passport is subject
to status. HSBC Passport is only available to
customers aged 16 or over. We will tell you
if your application has been successful and
when we will open your account. This may be
subject to appropriate identification, address
verification or other specified documentation
being produced to us. HSBC Passport and
the products/services available through HSBC
Passport are subject to terms and conditions
which you will be given when you apply.
You can cancel HSBC Passport either: if you
apply for HSBC Passport when you are not in
the UK, 14 days after you attend at your UK
branch to complete all necessary formalities,
or if you are already in the UK when you apply
for HSBC Passport, 14 days after the date
we opened your account. In both of these
situations, there will be no charge.
If you choose to cancel HSBC Passport within
the cancellation period you must return all items
provided to you under the HSBC Passport Service
in new and unused condition. After the 14 day
cancellation period, you will not be able to close
HSBC Passport within the initial 12-month period
and you will be required to make the monthly
fees during this time.
You are not liable for any transactions
undertaken if your HSBC Bank international
debit card is misused by someone who
obtained it without your consent. We may
investigate and ultimately hold registered
cardholders liable if we believe/prove that

the cardholder was negligent, or participated/


assisted in the completion of the fraudulent
transactions. Please see our General Terms
and Conditions, Current Account Terms and
Conditions and Savings Account Terms and
Conditions for more information.
Some cash machine operators may apply a direct
charge for cash withdrawals and this will be
advised on the screen at the time of withdrawal.
You will not be charged for using HSBC Bank
ATMs in the UK.

UK currency cash machine


You can use your debit card to make cash
withdrawals in Euros or US Dollars from some
of our self-service machines. The HSBC
prevailing exchange rate and the amount of
currency you will receive and the Sterling
amount will be shown on the screen. The
amount of the cash withdrawal converted into
Sterling will be deducted from your account
balance immediately.

Using your card abroad


General: The exchange rate that applies to
any foreign currency debit card payments
(including cash withdrawals) is the wholesale
market rate used by VISA applying on the
day the conversion is made plus our foreign
exchange charge, which is currently 2.75% of
the applicable VISA wholesale rate. We will
make the conversion and deduct the payment
from your account once we receive details of
the payment from VISA, at the latest the next
working day. Details of the current wholesale
market rates can be obtained by calling us on
the usual telephone numbers.
Cash Machines: There is an ATM transaction
fee currently 2% (minimum 1.75, maximum
5.00) for withdrawing cash at cash machines
overseas. We will deduct the amount of the
transaction fee from your account once we
receive details of the payment from the card
scheme, at the latest the next working day.
Some cash machine operators may apply a
direct charge for withdrawals from their cash
machines and this will be advised on screen
at the time of withdrawal.

Shops and retailers: There is no transaction


fee for using your debit card to pay for goods
and services overseas.
Our Internet Banking and Telephone
Banking services are subject to scheduled
maintenance periods.
Lines are open 8am to 10pm every day
(excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and
New Years Day). To help us continually
improve our service and in the interests of
security, we may monitor and/or record your
communications with us.

Talkmobile
Calls to 4722 are free from your Talkmobile
phone, calls to all other HSBC phone numbers
are chargeable at the standard rate.
Your Talkmobile SIMcard will be provided
to you by Carphone Warehouse and your
contract for the phone and any calls you make
will be directly with them. Information about
Talkmobile SIMcard has been provided by
Carphone Warehouse. Handset saving is based
on the handset only price in The Carphone
Warehouse Phone Guide.

Western Union
Your Western Union gold!+ card will be
provided to you by Western Union and
your contract for the card or by otherwise
participating in the Programme, will be with
them. Information about your Western Union
gold!+ card has been provided by Western
Union. To benefit from all of the gold!+ cards
advantages your card can only be used by you.
The 3 discount only applies when you first
activate your card.

Regular Saver
No withdrawals are allowed during the 12-month

If you are a higher rate tax payer you may have
to pay the higher rate of income tax on any
interest credited to your account.
For customers of branches in Jersey, Guernsey
and the Isle of Man, all interest is paid gross.
However, if you are residing in the EU, credit
interest may be subject to a retention tax. As
an alternative, you can opt to have your account
details reported ultimately to your local tax
authority. Your tax situation will depend on your
personal circumstances and we recommend
you obtain independent tax advice.
