A typicalchowtallyricmay be regardedas comprisingan initialline(thefek)
followedby threeor fourverses(pad,rhymeswith'bud"),eachessentially
of
two lines. The fek commencesin whatcouldbe regardedas medium-tempo
7/8 meter(somewhatlike NorthIndianlight-classical
f6l called"dipchandi"),
and aftera few repetitionsadaptsthe sametuneand text lineto duplemeter
(thedaur,like Northlndian"kaharva");
it then accelerates,
and accelerates
again, and then revertsto the original7/8.Afterthis renderingof the fek,the
firstlineof the pad is sungto a new melody("tune#2") in kaherva.Thenthe
sametune is sung, but replacingthe first halfof that pad with the secondhalf
of that line, addinga fillerwordlike "savariya"to makethe versefit. Thenthe
firstpad lineis repeatedas before. The first halfof the secondlineof the pad
is thensungfourtimesto its own tune (tune#3), andthen sungfaster. Then
the secondhalfof the secondpad line,lengthened
by addingthe finalwords
of the fek,is sungmoreor lessin the samemanneras line#1, that is, starting
in 7/8withthe originalmelody(tune#1), segueingto duplemeter,and
acceleratingonce or twice beforerevertingto a few renditionsin 7/8. The
subsequentpadsare sungin moreor lessthe samemanneras the firstone,
suchthatthe form is essentially
strophic.This patternmay be schematized

Hearingthe crashof the bow breaking,Parashuramcame amongthe kings;the angerof

eruptedlike that of God,
BhriguVara (Parashuram)
Then he askedwho had daredto breakthe bow (cameto Janakpur)
All the kingsbecameanxiousand scared,Janakbeganto worry
Sita became worried and depressedby this turn of fate,
(cameto Janakpuri
As thougha completedtaskwas suddenlydisrupted
Lakshmanjoined his lotuslike palmstogether
and said a few words to BhriguVara (Parashuram)
My brotherRam and I havebrokenmany bows in our childhood,
(cameto Janakpur)
But neverbeforedid God sendany rishito stop us
Aftera long talk with Lakshman, finallyBhriguVara went to the forest
He gave his bow givento him as blessingsby GoddessDurgato Ram,
(cameto Janakpur)
Then Ram was unitedwith Janaki

worry about about the place where they have to go at the last moment of life. They go on
proclaiming"dharma"
while doingwhat they want, whetherrightor wrong. The ones who knowthe path to
