Tell students to start thinking about a topic/ question for their opinion essay (which will be done in class).
Give students the following handout of Find someone who... (make as many copies as students) and give them
time to complete the activity. Let the move around in the classroom. When they finish ask the
questions to make sure they remember what they did the previous class.
Find someone who. (write the names of the students and what they say)
1. Knows the 3 parts of an essay
2. Remembers 2 linking words that express contrast
3. Remembers 2 linking words that are used to give examples
4. Remembers 2 linking words that are used to add information
5. Find someone who can explain the outline of an opinion essay
1.- You are what you wear! Look at the images below and write down the message.
Students A and B have different sets of images. You will need aprox. 15 copies each (depending
on how many students there are in the classroom).

Olivia-Dumitrina Nechita

Give your students ideas about what they could do with the designs. For instance:
Print them on t-shirts. They could wear them and take a group photo to have as memory (next year
they will be in 2nd of Batxillerat. their last year in the high school).
Sell t-shirts to raise money for a school trip/ give to a charity etc.
Use this outline to guide you. Give them time to finish it at home. Another possibility would be to let
them vote for the best idea/t-shirt.
Olivia-Dumitrina Nechita

4-. Stereotyping does not stop at clothes. It also affects toys. Look at this video from
the TV-series Friends. http://tinyurl.com/Friends-Barbie

How would you do it? Give your opinion then show it to your classmate to correct.
Olivia-Dumitrina Nechita
22
Let your students know that they will have to do a digital poster. Present Glogster.com to them. Show
them some glogs as examples http://edu.glogster.com/glogpedia?qPage=2&order=updated
They will have to take all the brief comments/opinions along the unit and put them together in a poster.
They must do this after their classmate corrected it (peer-review).
Explain that they should also include photos, videos etc. to their poster to make it more original. As well
as other element they may wish to add. Show them the rubric you will use to assess the poster.

Session 7
Tell your students that apart from the opinion essay they will have to do an oral presentation. They can
choose the topic as long as it is related to gender (toys, clothes, stereotypes, how gender roles are
learnt, sexist commercials etc.) The presentation will be done using Zeniting. Explain how it works.
1-. You are going to do an oral presentation at the end of the unit. In groups of 4, talk about the
characteristics of good and bad oral presentations. Write them down here.
Characteristics of good presentations
Ask students how they prepare for presentations. Do you learn it by heart? Do you rehearse it in front of the

about being a woman. Tell boys to do the same. Then, tell boys and girls to find someone of the
opposite sex and explain them which are from their point of view the best things about being a
woman/man.

to them. Pass around a paper for them to write down the topic/question of their essay.

Session 9
Opinion Essay
Let students know from the beginning of the unit that they have to write an opinion
essay. After finishing Session 4 tell them to start thinking about their topic and look for
information. They will do the essay in class.
Students will have to give the teacher the question they want to give their opinion on, 1
session before they will have to write it. This is also when the teacher should show them
the rubric used to assess their essay. Read it in class with your students and clarify any
doubts.
Early finishers can respond to the following questionnaire. Students can assess their
teacher and the learning unit.
