Bending
Colours

Ryan Miller/Red Bull Content Pool

Bending Colours is the yearlong journey of surfing icon

Jordy Smith, one of those rare athletes who delivers on
the promises he offered as a teenage prodigy. Yes, he was
winning the worlds biggest events as a kid; and, yes, he
became the basketball in a bidding war between the surf
companies. But, the heat around Jordy Smith is how he
freed surfing from the straitjacket of straight contest surfing, the dead hand of predictability. A year ago, the cleanest, biggest and most perfectly stomped rodeo one of
those rare surfing manoeuvres that is so stratospherically
spectacular it crosses the boundary into the mainstream,
an gave Jordy millions of hits on YouTube. Bending Colours takes the life of this icon, and through the use of new
camera and production technologies changes the audiences perspective on what form a surfing film can take.

B-Boy and rapper Abraham Abramz Tekya. But he has
done it. And now he wants to help others. This is why he

highlight is a visit by Crazy Legs and the Rock Steady

WE - A Collection
of individuals

Red Bull Media House GmbH

WE is the compelling story surrounding the life and times of

the modern-day skier. It has long been thought that skiing
was an individual sport, however the story of WE proves
that this idea is nothing more than a fallacy. Skiing is an
art, a collaborative effort that takes the energy of many.
Even though skiing encompasses many different venues
and styles, the core remains within the crew of individuals
that help scout, build, transport, struggle and keep each
other safe. WE follows a season, as a group of the most
influential skiers travel the world in search of epic powder
lines, tackling the streets, and creative park features. Together this collection of individuals becomes WE.

The ultimate athletes and the ultimate filmmakers paired

with Hollywood story telling: Pulitzer Prize-nominee and
Hollywood screenwriter Stephen Schiff (Wall Street, Lolita, True Crime) teams up with the action-sports wizards
from MSP and Red Bull Media House to ask the ultimate
questions: Why do these athletes do what they do? Why
do they risk everything to achieve something as fleeting as a ski line on a remote crag, a momentary descent
down a waterfall few have ever seen, or a leap through
space between man-made mounds created solely for
a leap through space? Chris Davenport, Antoine Montant, Herv Cerutti and other action sports legends join
forces with cameramen greats like Scott Gaffney, Dustin
Lindgren and Guillaume Tessier to explore the fine line
between extreme sport, philosophy and art. Directed by
Murray Wais and Steve Winter, this cinematic quest will
take you from the Rocky Mountains to Morocco, from Bolivia to China, and from Thailand to Norway, as it gives
rise to the most breathtaking stories. Next to a generic
Voice Over in English and German a special version narrated by Academy Awards nominee Nick Nolte is available.

In the earths polar regions, a ghostly flicker and colourful glow often brightens the night sky. Whoever sees an
aurora event will never forget this impressive experience.
Finlands Saami people, Alaskas Inuit, Canadas Native
Americans and New Zealands Maori all have legends
about the origins and meaning of this magic natural spectacle. These stories tell of spirits dancing in the sky, of a
bright and better world where hunting game is abundant,
of battling gods and celestial messages. This programme
links such popular legends to the auroras physical effects
on the natural world. It covers aurora research and the
most recent scientific discoveries. Breathtaking time-lapse
recordings of aurora events, lavish computer animations
of the space weather as well as scenes from the lives of
indigenous peoples add up to a comprehensive portrait of
the aurora, and shine a light on its influence on humans
and the natural world.

The world of bugs insects and arachnids can be as

spectacular as that of the big mammal predators but even
more bizarre, in appearance and behaviour. To explore this
world in 3D close-up takes us to a strange, dramatic and
alien universe that defies the imagination. The mantis, for
example, is an impressive insect, with its grasping forelegs
and strange, large complex eyes, and in close-up we will
see its lightning-fast strike as it captures its prey and eats
it. Also, the iconic spider is the subject of many a horror
movie, and the trapdoor spider is the most spectacular of
them all: she hides in the ground beneath a camouflaged
cover und jumps up to grab her passing prey in the fraction of a second. The familiar honey bee forms spectacular
swarms and we can enter inside the swarm in 3D, seeing
the behaviour of the bees as they communicate to their
hive mates the position of possible new nests as well as
experiencing their flight in slow motion.

Deep in the waters of the Danube lives a prehistoric giant.

Her eggs are the dish of dreams and fantasy the price
they fetch can make the wildest dreams come true. Shes
virtually unchanged from her ancestors, who swam in ancient rivers when the dinosaurs still ruled the planet. They
survived when the dinosaurs became extinct and are with
us still, but now time is running out. This ancient giant is
the Beluga Sturgeon, considered by some to be the largest freshwater fish in the world. Her unfertilised eggs become black gold, served in only the most expensive restaurants as caviar. Sturgeons are now at the very edge of
extinction because of the exclusive market for their eggs,
but only the eggs can allow the species to live. Paradoxically, the desire for caviar may now be the only chance
they have for their future existence. Billion Dollar Fish is
a story of mystery and intrigue, of greed and desperation,
of desire and aspiration of an ancient giant and how her
seemingly worthless and ephemeral eggs have taken on a
value almost beyond that of gold.

Its used as an insult bird brain not very bright. But

new research means this may no longer apply. This film
shows how bird intelligence can even be compared to that
of apes. Magpies, for example, have joined the elite group
of animals that have passed the mirror test for self-awareness. The crow family has also joined another exclusive
club that of tool users previously thought to be confined
to the great apes. And New Caledonian crows not only
use tools, but also make tools for specific jobs. The other
group of intelligent birds showing startling intelligence are
the parrots. Parrot research has shown that blue-fronted
Amazons, Hyacinth and Lears macaws can all complete
the string-pull test as well as ravens. But kings of the parrot minds are New Zealands keas. These mountain parrots not only complete the string-pull test, but can do it with
extra strings thrown in to confuse the matter. So are keas
the most intelligent of the birds? Not necessarily. With a
combination of wild observations and specially designed
tests, this film guides us through the latest research on
bird intelligence, a journey which will redefine the meaning
of bird-brained.

When thunderclouds begin to gather over Botswanas Kalahari each year, 20,000 zebras get itchy feet. As the first
fat raindrops hit the dust, southern Africas biggest animal migration gets under way. In a never-ending quest for
grass and water, the striped herds undertake an annual
epic trek across the vast lunar landscape of the Kalaharis
Makgadikgadi Pans. Most of the year, the Makgadikgadi
is an inhospitable wasteland of windswept, salt-encrusted
pans. For the areas water-dependent zebra, the Boteti
River on the western edge of the pans is a dry-season lifeline. However, it is also a death trap, with lions waiting in
ambush and crocodiles lurking in dark riverside caves. As
the drought tightens its grip, overgrazing along the shoreline forces some zebras into marathon daily roundtrips
between water and grass. Dust and Stripes tells the story
of this spectacular annual migration through the eyes of
a single zebra family. Documenting their journey across
this otherworldly landscape, ranging from vast lunar-like
pans to rolling grasslands, the film explores the wonder
of this great wilderness and pays tribute to its tenacious
inhabitants.

Life has been evolving on Planet Earth for nearly three

and a half billion years. In that time, the process of natural
selection has been like an arms race, shaping creatures
able to survive in virtually every corner of the planet. Just
10,000 years ago, as the world emerged from the last Ice
Age, one species evolved the intelligence to manipulate
the natural world as never before: Homo sapiens the
wise man. In three, one-hour episodes, Richard Hammond
looks at some of those most remarkable creatures on the
planet. A more blue-chip oriented, presenter-less, threepart version with additional stories and examples will be
available alongside the Richard Hammond version. Each
programme begins by identifying a selection of human
problems, explores how nature has solved these problems, and then reveals how modern science has adapted
natures solution to our own ends. In some cases, natures
solution is still far beyond our capabilities and we have
had to invent an ingenious parallel solution. The stories
are visually linked by the use of an elegant Library of Life
set. Specially built and looking like a super-modern museum store, the set is packed with specimens and skeletons
and extended to infinity with CGI to suggest the sheer
scale of possibilities for inspiration from nature.

This is the story of how hummingbirds became the ultimate

creatures of the air. Hummingbirds live at the limits of what
is possible. They have the highest metabolism with a
heart rate of 1,200 beats per minute of any vertebrate.
Their wings beat 50 times a second. They can hover on the
spot, even fly backwards. To our eyes, they are just a blur.
But with the aid of high-speed cameras we can slow down
their hyperactive lives and look into their secret world. It is
a world of great beauty, full of colour and balletic flight. But
it all came about because of flowers. Hummingbirds feed
on nectar and in the process they pollinate plants. Over
millennia, hummingbirds have become smaller and more
specialised. Today, some feed from only one or two plants;
others have become so small they resemble insects. These
extreme animals need to feed every 15 minutes, yet they
manage to survive the night, and some fly for 20 hours,
non-stop, over the ocean. They are the most remarkable
creatures to ever grace our planet. This film, with neverseen-before sequences, reveals them in a new light.

tracked large predators in some of the wildest and most remote places on Earth. He now faces his greatest challenge
yet: to find and film the Siberian tiger living wild and free in
Russias Far Eastern forests. It has long been accepted as

But then Sooyong Park, a Korean cameraman, emerged
from years in the forest with some extraordinary footage.
Nobody had achieved anything like it before or since. To
get his remarkable footage, Sooyong spent years tracking
tigers over their huge territories. When he had identified
the places they visited regularly, he dug himself into an underground pit and, unbelievably, stayed there for months
at a time waiting for the tigers to come. Meeting up with
Sooyong Park, Chris will learn how he found the tigers and
will soon come to understand the enormity of what Sooyong achieved in capturing the images that we are now able

Once, the Iberian lynx thrived across the entire Iberian

Peninsula. At the outset of the third millennium, sad remnants of some 150 individuals survive in two tiny isolated
habitats: the rugged mountains of Sierra de Andujar, and
the coastal swamps of Coto Donana. Until five years ago,
both populations were quickly fading away. Their fragmented habitats were shrinking even further, and they
were starved by lack of prey and reduced by epidemics.
But now, local authorities, scientists, landowners and other groups have finally begun to act in unison, encouraged
by the EUs Natura 2000 programme. Breeding stations
have been installed and a migration corridor is being established to link the two populations. Rabbit populations
that were wiped out by two epidemics have been reintroduced, because where there are no rabbits, there is no
lynx. On the Iberian Peninsula, primeval landscapes are
practically non-existent, so the Iberian lynx has lived on
cultivated land for centuries cattle, horse and pig pastures, cork oak forests, timberland, even holy sites of pilgrimage. The diversity and beauty of our locations is truly
stunning. Thats why the character and history of this land
are as relevant to our story as that of the big cat itself.

This owl wanders the vast arctic in the spring, looking for
an area with enough lemming for the owls to raise young.
This film follows a pair of snowy owls as they breed on the

months of bright sunshine and six months of twilight.
When summer arrives, our pair attempt to breed in unusual

A tomb of bones, 49,000 year-old Neanderthal bones, has

been discovered by chance in a remote, mountainous region of Northern Spain. It is an unparalleled find. It may
help solve the biggest Neanderthal puzzle of all why
we are here today and they are not. Mystery surrounds
the cave system called El Sidron. The bones are buried
20m below ground, and almost a quarter of a kilometre
from the tunnel entrance. How did they get there? The
bones are not weathered and there are no teeth marks
from wild animal scavengers. But there are other signs
that tell a shocking story of how this group of six adults,
three teenagers, two children and a baby may have met
their death. Some bones have deep cuts, long bones are
cracked and skulls crushed - distinct signs of cannibalism.
Was it a result of ritual or hunger? What happened here
49,000 years ago will take us on a much bigger journey
from El Sidron to the other end of the Iberian Peninsula
where scientists are excavating beneath the seas off Gibraltar in search of Neanderthal sites. Here we meet evolutionary biologist Clive Finlayson. He believes he knows

Everybody remembers where they were on the 11th of

September 2001. The world was in a state of shock. Almost three thousand people lost their lives. 9/11 will forever remain a symbol of evil. This film shows a different
side of 9/11 and is about peoples capacity for good. It tells
the story of Gander, a small town in Newfoundland, that
became synonymous with empathy, altruism, respect and
tolerance. After the attacks of the 11th of September, the
U.S.A. closed the airspace over America. More than 5,000

set up camp beds in schools and clubhouses, and took
strangers into their own homes. Housewives cooked round

of these friendships remain to this day. One couple even

are female, sisters born as white as snow in May 2009 in
South Africas Kruger Park. Growing up in this vast, wild
wilderness they must not only overcome the same survival challenges that all young lion cubs face, they must
also overcome the threats their high visibility brings. In
the African bush, anything unusual stands out and is often eliminated by eagle-eyed predators. Will our cubs survive? The odds are stacked against them 80 per cent of
all newborn lion cubs dont make it to adulthood. White
Lions - Born Wild is a true wildlife story, with strong characters and closely studied behaviour. We follow the cubs
progress as they embark on the pathway to adulthood,
learning to hunt, learning to avoid danger, learning to live
in their white coats. This is a strong behaviour-led film,
a coming-of-age story of a very rare and unusual pair of
lions. Through their eyes we learn what it is really like to
be a lion in Africa.

Brazil is a land of gigantic proportions. This one country is

almost as large as Europe or the USA. Brazil is energetic,
flamboyant and fun, but also overwhelmingly beautiful.
Within its mountains, seas, rainforests, deserts and millions of miles of rivers, are many of our planets last wild
frontiers. Its diversity of life and landscape is second to
none. Brazil is a rapidly developing and increasingly important country. In 2014 it will host the Football World Cup
and two years later South Americas first Olympic Games.
Yet, surprisingly, most of its animals and regions are still
little known. This series explores six spectacular worlds. In
each episode the viewer will be taken on a journey across
fabulous landscapes and will meet a few carefully selected, charismatic and little known animal species. The latest
in HD technology, including super slow-motion, night vision cameras, and extreme macro photography, will bring
Brazils mysterious carnivores, secretive sea life, astounding insects, and much more to life and will make this series
an emotionally moving experience.

Its an unknown planet, yet it seems strangely familiar:

deep canyons and crevices scar the landscape, rugged
mountain ranges tower over vast plains, humid jungles and
acidic lakes hide creatures unknown to most ferocious
predators, peaceful grazers, cunning quick-change artists.
But this alien planet is not from outer space. This planet
is you. At any given moment, we are the human habitat of
100 trillion organisms, almost all of them hidden from our
naked eye. The average human plays host to four pounds
of alien creatures that inhabit every nook and cranny of
our body. Scientists are just beginning to understand the
real dimensions of this biodiversity. This extraordinary 3D
adventure takes us on a journey into an inner world few of
us are aware of. Specially developed electron microscope
imaging reveals the dramatic interactions happening in our
body tissues when microbes, parasites, cells and viruses
fight and co-operate. We combine images from the latest
scanning electron microscopes with CGI to fly over microlandscapes and travel through cells and organs as we explore what makes this amazing eco-system work.

The Hubble space telescope has revolutionised the world

of science and the way we see the universe like no other
scientific instrument. For 20 years, Hubble has been orbiting the Earth 600km above it. Travelling at 8km per second, it takes just 96 minutes to orbit our planet. And it has
already achieved a huge amount, having discovered more
than 30,000 new planets and taken about 60,000 photographs. Astronomy is probably the oldest and possibly the
most exciting of all sciences. It asks questions about how
the universe was created, or how long stars shine. But
above all, it asks the question we would all like to know
the answer to: is there life somewhere out there in space?
Hubble - Mission Universe has the answers, and takes the
viewers on a fascinating voyage of discovery with spectacular shots taken by the Hubble telescope. Presented by
Dr. Jochen Liske, known as Dr.J., from NASAs and ESOs
online Hubblecast.

Somber, cold, forbidding and steep: North faces are the

end-all, be-all of extreme mountain climbing. That applies
in particular to the north faces of the Eiger, the Matterhorn, Grandes Jorasses, Piz Badile, Cima Grande and Aiguille du Dru. In the 20th century, those were the peaks
that mountaineers had to conquer to be considered elite.
Still, these faces remain the playgrounds of the extreme
to this day. Six documentaries, some with archive footage
that has never been shown before, show the great north
faces of the Alps from a surprising new perspective. World
renowned elite mountaineers such as Robert Jasper, Ueli
Steck, Hansjrg Auer, Alexander Huber and Steve House
make premiere and one-man ascents, demonstrating
climbing skills at the highest level.
Spectacular images from the faces and breathtaking helicopter Cineflex shots allow viewers to experience it all
first hand.

Harnas is a large farm in southern Africa that offers shelter

to abandoned wild animals. The van der Merwe family who
own the farm take on volunteers from all over the world to
help run their animal orphanage: the young people come
to meet exotic animals and to get a taste of the real Africa. City slickers from London, New York and Frankfurt
suddenly become foster parents to baby leopards. They
get bitten by baboons and scared by ferocious wild dogs.
But they are safe, protected by characters like Frikkie, the
hard-boiled Namibian cowboy who gives the kids a hard
time; by Hermann, the gentle giant who has spent most of
his life in the bush; and by Schalk van der Merwe, former
football pro and manager of Harnas, who has an almost
eerie ability to talk and walk with lions. Harnas Wildlife
Rescue Camp is the story of the animals living at Harnas
and some amazing people who do all they can to help
them.

world of
Tradition & Inspiration

Hoshiyar Ali was a major general in the Kurdish Peshmerga militia until two landmines tore off both his legs.
And he was lucky: his nine-year-old brother and two of
his friends died because they unsuspectingly took a wrong
step. Since that fateful day, Hoshiyar Ali is on a mission:
he wants to cleanse his country of these insidious explosives. By himself, walking on prosthetic legs, he searches
every square inch in the death zones, defusing all kinds
of mines. To his countrymen and women he is a hero, but
they cannot afford to pay him for his work. He says he is
doing it to save other children from his brothers fate. Valmara is an affecting documentary of an extraordinary individual in a state of emergency and of a stricken country
and its quest for a future worth living.
