You can use this graph in different ways. If you want the police box to show up in the
holes work the blue squares as open mesh and the white as solid squares. If you want
a more openwork piece, work the white as open mesh and the blue as solid squares.
Materials: I hook, minimum 21 ozs. Worsted weight yarn (Picture uses Red Heart
Super Saver Royal Blue with edging in Soft Navy and is worked with x as open mesh.)
If you use different yarn for edging, you only need 2-3 ounces.
Width is 48 blocks across. Length is 87 rows.
3 dc mesh (pictured: finished size approximately 31 x 49 when worked with an I
hook) If your first row will be solid squares (straight dc), working the blue squares as 3
dc open mesh, work a foundation chain of 48 x 2 + 3 = 99, make first stitch in the 4th
chain from hook
If your first row will be open mesh, working the blue squares as 3 dc solid squares, work
a foundation chain of 48 x 2 + 4 = 100, make first stitch in 6th chain from hook
4 dc mesh
If your first row will be solid squares (straight dc), working the blue squares as 4 dc
open mesh, work a foundation chain of 48 x 3 + 3 = 147, work first stitch in 4th chain from hook
If your first row will be open mesh, working the blue squares as 4 dc solid squares, work a foundation chain of 48 x 3 + 5 =
149, work first stitch in 8th chain from hook.
Instructions: Work the foundation chain as noted above and follow chart using double crochet. When complete, work a single
crochet edging all around in same or contrast color.
