Trig Avionics M Eng placement opportunity for June-Dec 2015

18 December 2014
Trig Avionics has been creating world class radio and transponder products for the aviation industry
for more than 10 years and is growing rapidly. We have just moved into our purpose built offices on
the Heriot Watt Research Park, Edinburgh.
We have built up a team passionate about aviation and are looking for like-minded, enthusiastic
engineers expand our design team. We are global experts in the latest avionics communications
standards with special focus on general aviation. We are offering a placement for an Electronics
Engineering M Eng student to work on one of our new product development programs as part of the
project team.

The placement will have the following profile:

Testing a new avionics product developed within Trig.
This involves defining the test environment, planning the development and designing, build and
finally implementing the tests.
The project involves skills in electronic design (mostly digital and analogue signals) and expectation
of the student developing some embedded C++ software to prove the test concept. It will be around
70% hardware design with the remaining 30% software development and system verification.
The student will be an integral part of the design project team and be included in the team work to
enable full exposure to our processes and learn from interaction on technical and non-technical
topics.
Expect the first month to be largely training and familiarisation with the tools and product.
The second month will involve requirements and high level design
The third month will involve design work using tools such as Orcad Capture for hardware schematic
design and drawing packages to define mechanical needs to support the test.
The second half of the project will be focussed on building and debugging the hardware and writing
software to execute the tests and validating the system on the new product.
Throughout the project, a number of detailed documents shall be created and peer reviewed for
completeness and accuracy.
You will learn high assurance product development and processes and be involved in a wide range of
technical work to complete this project plus the impact of manufacturing on product design.
Summary of candidate profile
Electronic design for digital and analogue circuits
Embedded C/C++ programming
Good verbal and written documentation skills
Ability to organise tasks to complete on schedule
Successful completion of 4th year Electronics Engineering course or similar
Enthusiasm for aviation
Enthusiasm for working within a team
The placement commences in June 2015 and runs for 6 months.
