MY MAP
I will observe at least 3 different classes. Pay attention to what the Resource
Teacher does in relation to assessment.

Step 1. I will review the Principles

of assessment of learning on pp.
Principles of Teaching, 2007 by Corpuz B.
and G. Salandanan and Assessment of
Learning 2, 2007 Santos, Rosita, pp. 7-22.

Step 2. I will observe 3 different classes and

interview my Resource Teacher for principle # 8.

Step 3. I will identify evidence of applications of the

principles of assessment of learning. I may cite more than one

Step 4. Guided by question/questions, I will reflect on my experience.

Write down my reflection.

My tools
As I observe a class, Iwill use the Observation Sheet for a more focused
observation.

Principles of Learning
Assessment

Teaching Behavior of the Teacher/Learning

Behavior of the Learner as proof of the
Application of the Principle of Learning

1. Assessment is an integral part of the

teaching learning process.
2. Assessment tool/activity should match
with performance objective.
3. The results of assessment must be fed
back to the learners.
4. Teachers must consider learners
learning styles and multiple intelligences
and so must come up with a variety of
ways of assessing learning.
5. Give some positive feedback along with
not so good ones.
6. Emphasize on self-assessment.
7. Assessment of learning should never be
used as punishment or as disciplinary
measure.
8. Emphasize on real world application that
favors realistic performances over out-ofcontext drills.
9. Results of learning assessment must be
communicated regularly to parents.

My analysis
What are the possible consequences on the teaching-learning process if each of the
principles is not observed?

Principles of Learning
Assessment
1. Assessment is an integral part of the
teaching-learning process.

Possible Consequence if Principle is

NOT Observed
Students want to know exactly what they have
to do to gain good marks/grades. Teachers can
do a lot to assist them. If this integral part of
teaching-learning process not observed, the
consequences are: theres a big gap between
learners and the teachers. And the students
might not assess anymore how far they have
learned. And also, If assessment is not part of

2. Assessment tool/activity should match

with performance objective.

the teaching-learning process then the

learnings of the learners will not be guided or
teaching will no longer be productive.
Assessment activity should match with
performance objective. But because of
imperfection the teacher did not match the
assessment tool with performance objective
however it will bring confusion to the learner.

3. The results of assessment must be fed

back to the learners.

Giving feedbacks to the learners is essential

because feedbacks is the only way to know if they
have succeeded or failed. If they need to recover
from failure or deepen their understanding. They
need to have explanations and suggestions for
improvement. If this is not observed, how will the
students address their problems and improve
theirgrades?

4. Teachers must consider learners learning

styles and multiple intelligences and so
must come up with the variety of ways of
assessing learning.

If the teacher did not determine the multiple

intelligences of the students, they might not be
enhanced and developed their skills because
intelligence is acquired depending on their
environment and experiences.
Positive feedbacks can boost self-esteem. If this
principle is not observed by the teacher, then
the teacher is inaccurate and ineffective and
degrades learners self-confident.
Learning is a personal process, then let the
learners assess independently with certain
criteria. Let them be conscious and reflect on
their own progress because if this is not
observed, the learners may compare
themselves with other instead of testing their
own improvement and keep on admiring
others work instead of his.
If The consequences will be distorts of the true
purpose of the assessment.

5. Give some positive feedback along with

not so good ones.

6. Emphasize on self-assessment.

7. Assessment of learning should never be

used as punishment nor as disciplinary
measure.
8. Emphasize on real-world application that
favors realistic performances over out-ofcontext drills.

9. Results of learning assessment must be

communicated regularly to parents.

My analysis

If this is not observed, the consequences is the

assessment will not be adequate because their
higher thinking skills such as analyzing,
evaluating, and most of all creating is
undeveloped therefore teaching-learning
process is frivolous.
The consequence will be no more transparency
and accountability.

As students, do I remember any incident when any of these

principles was/were violated by my teachers? How did it affect my
classmates and me?

It was half of the school year when I transferred to Central Elementary School.
I was a grade III student at that time and it was my first time to have a very strict
teacher, or otherwise a very strict-attitude teacher that I can say now its was
beyond professionalism. Many student at my age were scared of her even my
classmates. One time she gave an oral and if we cant answer the question we will
sit in the air for the whole period. It was a good thing I answered correctly. Next
was my classmate/seatmate, whom the most very talkative among the class,
didnt answer the question. Instead the teacher let her sit in the air for the whole
time, the teacher gave her bad comments that she is dull, irresponsible, lazy, and
all horrible stuff she said. After then my seatmate never talk again only if she has
something to say. She became deprived, few weeks after she stopping coming to
school and I never seen her again.

My portfolio
Present the principles of assessment of learning in a very creative.
