ABSTRACT
experience in the process of development of the children. School is the second home to the
children. In school system, classroom is the most vital one for the transactional business
going on between school and the society.
Classroom Climate is very important to promote positive learning and
stimulate students to want to learn. The Classroom Climate needs to address all types of
learning. The Classroom Climate plays an inherent role in moulding the innate potentialities
of an individual Classroom is a place where the future of the students are desired and the
Classroom Climate should be suitable to the students to learn freely and show ideas with
others. One teacher may work best in a very structured Classroom while another may prefer
a more laid back approach. A good Classroom Climate plays in vital role in enhancing the
achievement of the students. Hence the investigator tries to find out the impact of the
classroom climate factors on achievement in Commerce.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CLASSROOM CLIMATE AND
ACHIEVEMENT IN COMMERCE OF XI STANDARD STUDENTS
OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS
The investigator wants to give explanations for the terms used in the title of the study.
RELATIONSHIP
It means the connection between two variables. In this study the investigator wants to
find out the relation between classroom climate and achievement in commerce.
CLASSROOM CLIMATE
The feel or tone of a classroom indicated by the total environment including
especially the way teacher and students relate to one another. Some classrooms have a cold,
impersonal or even antagonistic, climate which others are warm and friendly. Some are
business like and inefficient.
ACHIEVEMENT IN COMMERCE
Achievement refers to performance or experience relative to a given subject. It is
concerned with learning outcomes rather than native capacity or ability to learn the subject.
By the term achievement in Commerce, the investigator means the performance of XI
standard students in Commerce examination. In order to measure the achievement of the
students in commerce, the investigator has taken the marks of the students in the achievement
test.
XI STANDARD STUDENTS
By this term, the investigator means the students studying XI standard in the higher
secondary schools in Tirunelveli District.
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
1.
To find out the level of the classroom climate of higher secondary students with
respect to the background variables.
2.
To find out the level of achievement in commerce of higher secondary students with
respect to the background variable.
3.
To find out whether there is any significant relationship between classroom climate
and achievement in commerce of XI standard students.
METHODOLOGY
METHOD USED IN THE STUDY
The investigators used a survey method for the study.
POPULATION OF THE STUDY
Koul(1984) says A Population refers to any collection of specific group of human
beings or non-human such as objects, educational institutions, time units, geographical areas,
salaries drawn by individuals some statisticians call it universe.
The population of the study consists of school students who are studying XI standard
in schools in Tirunelveli District.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1.
10. Proper guidance and orientation should be given to the students about the
opportunities and chances connected with the group chosen to arouse interest in
the subject provided with adequate information about the latest development.
SUGGESTIONS
1. The present study is conducted on XI standard Commerce students. The study
can be done with various subjects of the students.
2. The present study was confined to a representative sample of higher secondary
students only. It is therefore suggested that the similar studies can be replicated
at secondary, college, B.Ed., M.Ed., and M.Phil., students.
3. The present study has done only in the XI standard students of Tirunelveli
district, similar study can be extended to other districts in Tamilnadu.
4. A similar study may be attempted on a sample different group and different
classes.
5. This study has done by survey method, similar study can be done with various
research methodology.
CONCLUSION
Thet test result reveals that the girls have better classroom climate than the boys. It
is due to the fact that girls are enriching their learning by using their classroom climate with
their peer groups. Co-operative learning, group-learning are the methods which are influences
in their maximum attainment in their learning outcome. Girls students are very interesting in
every class. But, the boys felt irritative about their classroom climate because of the rules and
regulation which are formulated by the school administration.
The F test reveals that the aided school students are better than government and selffinance school students in their academic achievement. This may be due to the fact that the
aided school students are under the guidance of strictly teachers, and parents. Moreover, the
students are forced to improve their studies by which the result is also improved. Teachers are
worked more and do their best to make their students excellent in achievement in their
subject.
The correlation analysis result reveals that there is significant relationship between
classroom climate and academic achievement in commerce of XI standard students. It is quite
natural that good classroom climate provides better learning facilities and the teacher also
teach effectively. So it may create a constant force of motivation among the students to
achieve high marks in examination.
From the above study, relationship between classroom climate and achievement in
commerce of XI standard students is moderate. The success or the failure of the student
depends greatly on the quality of classroom climate, so it is necessary to create an enjoyable
and productive learning environment to the students.
