From the above, it may be seen that among leather and leather products, Russia imports significant amount of footwear, to the
extent of 90% of the actual sales in Russia. Another interesting aspect is that the average import prices of leather footwear
(per pair) has also increased from USD 8.3 in 1995 to USD 16.90 in 2009, as detailed below. These are only import prices and
the market prices may be higher.

Business outcome of the BSM
The BSM event held in November 2010 was the largest event
held in Russia for the Leather Sector with the participation
of 28 companies, the previous such event being the BSM

Despite the challenges involved in mobilizing buyers, the
event witnessed the participation of 141 Russian buyers.
As a follow-up to the BSM event, representatives of ECONIKA
, a leading Russian buyer of footwear have arrived in India
and visited Delhi during December 5-6,2010 and thereafter
proceeded to Kolkata during Dec 6-10,2010. The Council

Conclusion
In fact, the Buyer Seller Meet organized by the Council
attracted sizeable number of Russian buyers and the
Indian participants were able to establish contacts with
the buyers.
Thus, our BSM held in Russia has helped in generating
awareness among Russian buyers on the potential of the
Indian leather industry and this is a good beginning for us
to penetrate further into this potential market. The Council
will firm-up further market promotion events in Russia,
with the guidance of the Indian Embassy in Moscow.
The Council for Leather Exports is thankful to the Indian
Embassy in Russia for all help and support provided for
successful organization of the BSM event.
