You are the president of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at an urban school
. At the last association meeting, many parents expressed their concern about th
e poor performance of their children, particularly in Mathematics, science and t
he English language. They felt that the school should work harder towards improv
ing the teaching and learning of these subject. The PTA could assist but the ass
ociation does not have enough funds (money) to carry out its projects for the sc
hool. you wish to speak about this problem and suggest some solutions at the for
thcoming meeting.
(a)Which of the following speech types will best describe your speech: informati
ve, Persuasive, negotiation, or argumentative speech? Give reason for your answe
r.

Persuasive speech will be the best speech type in this situation, because persua
sive speech aims to influence the audiences attitude, value or behavior, and conv
ince your audience to take action. In this case, the PTA can conduct a meeting,
in purpose of fund raising for the project or conduct the corresponding campaign
, so the speech must aim to persuade the audience to help out in this project to
raise enough funds to carry out the project.
(b)Briefly outline the problem that the PTA needs to address. What actions can t
he members of the association take? The problems that PTA needs to address are:
1. The poor performance of the students in the subjects of mathematics, science,
and the English language. 2. Moreover the association does not have enough fund
s to carry out its projects for the school. In order to resolve the above proble
ms, the most effective way to improve the performance of subject mathematics, sc
ience, and English language is to encourage students to participate in the tuiti
on classes on the above subjects, and participate in the extracurricular activit
ies such as mathematics club, English club, and science club. The PTA could cond
