How to Use Artificial Insemination Kits for Dogs

A dogs artificial insemination kit, or A.I. kit, is used to artificially impregnate a bitch with
semen manually collected from a sire. This is sometimes done when the pair refuses to breed, or
simply to increase the chances of pregnancy in the female. These artificial insemination kits for
dogs have made the insemination process very simple and easy due to which it has become an
affordable alternative to hiring professional breeders.
How to Use An A.I. Kit for Dog
1. Firstly, it is important to ascertain when the bitch is most fertile. This is typically after the
vulva begins to swell, and blood-tinged discharge from the vagina is seen. The goal is to
inseminate the bitch four days before ovulation.
2. The typical A.I. kit contains a pipette, syringe, rubber gloves (be sure to use the rubber
gloves throughout the procedure), lubricant, and an artificial vagina.
3. It is best to use freshly collected sperm for the procedure.
4. Throughout the process, speak soothing words to calm both the male and the female;
petting the dogs helps.
5. It normally takes two people to carry out the procedureone to hold the sire or bitch, and
one to perform the procedure.
6. Place a sire and bitch in heat in the same room or vicinity together.
7. Allow the sire to sniff the behind of the bitch until he is aroused.
8. When the sire is ready to mount the bitch or is sufficiently aroused (penis erect), place the
artificial vagina over the erect penis of the sire.
9. Massage the penis of the sire through the sheath of the artificial vagina to stimulate the

13. After ejaculation occurs, remove the artificial vagina from the penis of the sire.
14. Remove the male from the vicinity of the female.
15. It is a good idea for someone to stay with the sire after he ejaculates; he is in a very
vulnerable state. Stay with the dog until he returns to normal. However, make sure that
the seminal fluid collected is quickly injected into the bitch.
16. Use the syringe to collect the seminal fluid from the artificial vagina. Make sure that the
plunger is all the way down before collecting the seminal fluid from the artificial vagina.
Slowly withdraw the seminal fluid.
17. Make sure that the bitch is standing.
18. Have someone hold the bitch.
19. Attach the syringe to one end of the pipette; insert the other end of the pipette into the
females upper vagina with a gloved and lubricated finger.
20. Slowly push the plunger until all of the seminal fluid is deposited into the female.
21. After this, remove the pipette; however, keep your finger in the vagina of the female.
Stimulate the vaginal wall for several minutes.
22. The vaginal wall should begin to contract, which assists the seminal fluid to flow into the
uterus.
23. Elevate the females rear for a few minutes to increase the possibility of pregnancy.
24. Do what you can to keep the female from urinating for an hour after the process;
urination quickly following the insemination decreases the chance of successful breeding.
25. The bitch may return to normal activity one hour after the insemination process.
