Parish Council Meeting Tuesday 10th March. POSTPONED

Thought for the Week

Our covenantal relationship with God
This is a poignant and benevolent initiative by God: I will be your God and you
shall be my people (Leviticus 26: 12). Gods message remains a tower of
strength to lean upon at all time. Today we are presented with the Decalogue
just like the Jewish of old. The Ten Commandments as we know it to be is
intended to guild us, enabling us to decipher between good and evil (Genesis
2:17). Having lived as Gods people, can we exonerate ourselves from the evils
that beset us or helm us on all sides of live particularly in this present age. The
Lord went further to impress upon us when He said: See, I set before you
today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to
love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his
commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord
your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess (Deuteronomy
30:15-20). Sometimes, the message of salvation appears laughable to certain
categories of people. It meant different things to the Jews and Greeks. What
does it mean to you? Does Gods message persuade you to accept the
message of eternal life? Gods message invites us to make radical decisions
and choices - often very difficult ones.
Fr. Raphael Imoni

More News
From Paul to the Benedictines
Greetings to you all. I am getting myself ready to return to the parish during the
coming week. Fr Raphael tells me that next weekend will be his final weekend at St
Benedict's as he is returning to Nigeria to carry out some research for his doctoral
studies. I thought that I would like to be present for his last weekend. It will also
help me to step back into the parish more gently. I am very much looking forward
to being back with you. It will feel a bit strange at first, I suspect, like starting over
again. It's not yet one year since I began as parish priest and I am keen to be back to
celebrate Holy Week and Easter.
I want to send my congratulations to Mrs Shannon and St Benedict's School for
achieving Academy status, although I have yet to understand all the implications of
this. It will certainly be a new stage in the school's history and development. Let's
pray that it will be a time of the Lord's blessing for everyone involved in the life of
the school.
I am grateful to Mother Jacinta and everyone here at St Joseph's Nursing Home for
their care for me over the last couple of months. I've been here twice as long as I
originally expected, which may explain the queries from staff coming back on duty
- "are you still here, then?" !!
With my good wishes and prayers,
Fr Paul.
Unused Rosaries: Do you have unused rosaries tucked away in the
cupboard or drawer, we are collecting rosaries to send out to various
missions around the world, this appeal is being made by The Catenians
who have so far sent out 135,000 rosaries. It would be good if we could
give this initiative our support, spare rosaries can be given to Fr. Paul or
Brian Ingram.
