ACCOMPLISHMENTS
I argue for rights of imprisoned persons at all levels of the state and
federal court system. These arguments have included successful argument to
the California Supreme Court in a capital case, resulting overturning the
conviction and complete release of defendant (In re Troy Lee Jones),
successful argument to the jury in a death penalty prosecution (People v.
Kenneth Williams), successful argument to the en banc Ninth Circuit in a
murder case (Anderson v. Terhune), and briefing for the defendant in major
case decided by the United States Supreme Court (United States v. Watts).
I developed a successful private law practice concentrating on post-conviction
relief, including approximately 1000 felony cases on appeal and habeas
corpus, including five death penalty appeals, and approximately 30 felony and
misdemeanor cases argued to jury, including four death penalty trials. Of
particular importance has been teaching and mentoring of attorneys entering
this field of practice.
