Is the LOMCE a new Law of Education?

No. The LOMCE is an amendment of the existing school reform LOE (Organic
Law of Education).
What are the general objectives of the LOMCE?
Adhering to the European Union guidelines regarding education, the Europe
2020 Strategy and the need for improvement in education in this country,
the general objectives are:
To reduce the variety of requirements and demands of the educational
system throughout the country.
To lower the drop-out rates in the compulsory educational levels (pupils
under the age of 16)
To improve the rate of students achieving the level of Compulsory
Secondary Education.
To improve students level of knowledge in basic subjects.
To establish a clear system of indicators of progress according to
educational objectives,
To increase the autonomy of schools.
To generalise and spread the use of ICT for education.
To promote and update vocational training studies.

To improve the learning of foreign languages.

To streamline the educational offer.


The LOMCE defines 7 competences:
Linguistic competence
Mathematical competence and basic competences in science
and technology
Digital competence
Learning to learn
Social and civic competences
Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship
Cultural awareness and expression
How is Primary School organised?
The main change is the disappearance of the three year cycles (ciclos).
With the LOMCE, Primary School is a six-course stage.
Breakdown of Natural, Social and Cutural Sciences into Natural
Sciences and Social Sciences.

A student can only repeat a course once.


The subject offer in Primary is the following:
CORE SUBJECTS
(The minimum teaching time for the core subjects will be at least (50%) half
of the total teaching time)
Natural Science
Social Science
Mathematics
Spanish Language and Literature
First Foreign Language
SPECIFIC SUBJECTS
(Should take at least 3 out of 6 offered, where Physical Education and
Religion / Social and Civic Values are mandatory)
PE (Physical Education)
Religion or Social and Civic Values
At least 1:
Art
Second Foreign Language
Provided it has not been chosen before:
Religion
Social and Civic Values
ELECTIVE SUBJECTS:
Co-official Language and Literature
Elective subject choices not taken before
Extension or consolidation of Core subjects still to be determined
How many assessments will there be and what are the objectives
behind these?

3rd Primary
This is a diagnostic evaluation to detect difficulties and implement
improvement measures.
Each Autonomous Community carries these out and there are no academic
repercussions.
6th Primary
This is an external exam, the same for students across the country. The
Government will develop and design the evaluation criteria and
characteristics for these tests.
Competences are measured: What the student knows and knows how to
do.
The results will be informative and orientative for Secondary

Overall objectives of the area


In accordance with the official syllabus laid down for the Primary Education,
Brainwave aims at developing in students the abilities listed in the specific
objectives for the area of foreign languages:
Listen and understand messages in different verbal interactions, using the
information received to do several tasks related to their experience.
Express and interact in simple oral situations with a well-known
content and development, using both verbal and non-verbal
procedures and adopting a respectful and cooperative attitude.
Write different types of texts with different aims about topics previously
seen in the classroom and with the help of models.
Read different types of texts related to their experiences and interests in
a comprehensive way, and getting general and specific information
according to a specific aim.
Learn to use all the available means in a progressively autonomous way,
including new technologies, in order to get information and to be able to
communicate in the foreign language.
Appreciate the foreign language, and all the languages in general, as a
means of communication and understanding between people coming
from different cultures and as a tool to learn different contents.
Show a receptive attitude and self-confidence in the own learning ability
and the use of the foreign language.
Use the previous knowledge and experiences with other languages so as
to get a faster acquisition of the foreign language in an accurate and
autonomous way.
Identify phonetic aspects, rhythm, stress and intonation, as well as
linguistic structures and lexical features of the foreign language, and use
them as basic communicative elements.
