Introduction
Electrical system design is a design of group of electrical components
connected to each other to carry out its operation whether it is through lighting,

circuit, and the auxiliary layout, which shows additional devices that would be used
in the system such as cable TV, telephone system, or CCTV. Also, title block must
be provided in order to properly label the design along with the proper scaling for

Introduction
Electrical system design is a design of group of electrical components
connected to each other to carry out its operation whether it is through lighting,
convenience outlet, and/or motors. It is important to provide design prior to
construction of building in order to give customers a summary of the process of
each of its electrical equipment. Also, it is important in order to provide the cost
estimate for the electrical services in designing the whole electrical system of his
establishments.
It is a must that each design engineers should follow or go beyond the
minimum requirements as stated in newest edition of the Philippine Electrical Code
(PEC). PEC serves as the basis of each design engineers for justification of his
design in order to ensure that the design is safe from harm, has the capability to
handle each electrical load, reliable, and values money.
Before designing, design engineers shall consider different factors such as
nature of building, whether it is a dwelling unit, commercial or industrial, the
equipments to be used, and the source supply to be used whether it is single phase
or three phase system.
A hard copy of the design shall be made, also known as the electrical plan.
The electrical plan shall be concise and accurate in a manner that it would be
understood not only by the engineer but also the people/electrician who are going to
do the electrical system of the establishment. It must consist of the following parts;
10
General Notes and Specification, which states the specification that could not be
written in the load schedule and the guidelines that the design engineer follow in
creating the plan; Location Plan and site development plan, shows the location of
the site and the portion that the work would be done; Riser Diagram, it is a one-line
diagram that shows the location and inter-connection of the integral parts of the
system such as panel boards, CATV, telephone system, etc; Load Schedule and
computation, a table that shows the electrical load that would be used in the system
along with its volt-ampere rating, breaker to be used, and the sub-feeder wire to be
used. It is important to consult the PEC in creating the load schedule since it
provides a recommendation ampere rating for some of the load. Also, in the load
schedule, the design engineer computes the total connected load, in ampere. With
that, the engineer will recommend the main feeder wire to be used in the system;
next would be the electric layout, this will show the power layout, or the connection
of each branch circuit of convenience outlet, the lighting layout, which shows the
reflected ceiling plan of the system and the connection of each lighting per branch
circuit, and the auxiliary layout, which shows additional devices that would be used
in the system such as cable TV, telephone system, or CCTV. Also, title block must
be provided in order to properly label the design along with the proper scaling for
the electrical layout.
Once the electrical plan is completed, Professional Electrical Engineers will
sign and seal the plan ensuring that every detail in the plan is compliant with the
Philippine Electrical Code.

Conclusion
After doing the design, the group has learned a lot of ideas and concept
regarding electrical system design. From basic construction of electrical plan, power
layout, and lighting layout up to computation of load in the load schedule.
The group learned that designing is not as easy at looks like since as design
engineers, the group had the luxury to design where they believe the system would
19
be efficient without compromising the standards imposed by the PEC. PEC has
been a great help for the group from the start of the design up to the last detail of it.

Government and utility companies of electrical wiring installation

Introduction:
Commercial unit is used for the whole system of an economy that
constitutes an environment for business. It may be office buildings,
warehouse or retail. In urban locations, a commercial building often combines
functions, such as an office on level 2-10, with retail on floor 1. Local
authorities commonly maintain strict regulations on commercial zoning, and
have the authority to designate any zoned area such as, a business must be
located in a commercial area or area zoned at least partially for commerce.
This project covers Electrical System Design for Commercial Units. It
also includes preparation of plans, technical and specifications, load analysis,
power and lighting design layouts, the load schedule and the location of
panel boards. We also define the major components of electrical plans and
conducted electrical load and analysis for the selection of feeder wires and
circuit breakers in this system design. We also prepared an electrical riser
23
diagram indicating the load circuit directory and selected a proper grounding
conductors for this kind of a three phase system unit.
