Kamakura, Japan
Key Architects
2009
Certified by PHI
26
Key Architects is committed to building energyefficient buildings that are earthquake-proof for Japan,
and the firm gives presentations and leads workshops
on Passive House concepts. So far, Key Architects is
the only Passive Housecertified consultant in Japan,
but the partners explain that, despite this lack of certification, the country has an active Passive House group
with almost one hundred members. Since the completion of the Kamakura House, Mori and Heil have been
busy working on several other Passive House residences as well as larger-scale Passive House projects,
such as a new Zen temple in central Tokyo.
