Today in this seminar topic is about Readiness for participating in
the

Association

of

South

East

Asian

Nations

(ASEAN)

Economic

Community. The speaker is Dr. Ir. Windu Nuryanti and with Prof. Satrio
Sumantri Bojonegoro from ITB, on this seminar moderated by Mrs. Rima
and Mr. Kent. After that, Miss Rima do opening by give statement
Indonesia will be include in 7th largest in the economic sector in the
world. However, our needed the number of engineering more increasing
while the graduate of it still lower than demand on this country. Then, in
next year our countury ill face the AFTA in early 2015. After that, the
moderator Mr. Kent also give state that create a creativity also important
by developing of skill, then, Miss Windu said that like what new cabinet
said is morality is number one.
Nowadays, the government give more focusing on building our
moral by change curriculum which is more concert to character building.
Engineering need moral while they also must fulfill ability in practical
aspect by improve morality in engineering aspect is needed. Indonesia
definitely has potential resources like island, language, we also now are in
the archipelago ring of fire which is give impact so many disaster, thats
why we must expert in order to combine between our potential and our
risk in Indonesia,by add the most important things is character building
which is not as easy as turning the palm of the hand to teach it.
She said Character must start from early years, family must build
the foundation to start their kids

The recognition and qualification for

Indonesia stated that we are as engineering must be our culture, but so

many people afraid to choose engineering because of she or he hate to
calculate, creating a new innovation, and still live in remote area. In other
opinion of the speaker, Prof. Satrio, stated that we must survive in ASEAN
Community. Professional societies (council of engineers institution of
professional engineers, etc), so we must promoting their professional

status and looking after engineering education through accreditation of

the education.
The education must concern conduct the outcome of education
because Indonesia still needed to the fresh graduate of engineering. Talk
about the quality of engineering also depends on the student not only for
the input and output but also the engineering student must be able to
design and manufacture. Professional societies like council of engineers
institution

of

professional

engineers

have

been

promoting

their

professional status and looking after engineering education through

accreditation.
Last but not least, beside as an engineering be able to fulfill in skill
engineering like the aspect of design and manufacture, but not ontly that
character is also the important aspect to build our future and as the
starting point to make better for Indonesia.
